"Why on earth am I being compared to her?" Jiang Shuwei muttered, holding her phone to her ear while quickly opening the university’s internal website.

As a medical prodigy rarely seen in a century at this school, Jiang Shuwei had entered the top-ranked medical university at the age of thirteen and had long enjoyed a prominent reputation on campus.

Many even revered her like a goddess.

"Su Mian recently published a paper and reportedly won three national awards. Now the entire school is buzzing about the value of her work, saying she will be a pillar of the nation in the future. So they’re comparing you, an outdated genius who hasn’t even received your diploma," a voice explained.

Jiang Shuwei frowned deeply and immediately opened the paper. The next moment, her eyes widened in shock.

“Haixin, I can’t talk now. Something urgent just came up,” she said, ending the call.

Her eyes scanned the paper swiftly but thoroughly. Wasn’t this the very thesis she had planned to submit three years ago?

To her disbelief, it had become Su Mian’s achievement.

Anger flushed Jiang Shuwei’s delicate face. The academic work she had spent three years researching could never be someone else’s trophy.

She grabbed her phone and dialed Su Mian’s number.

Still half-asleep, Su Mian answered with a harsh tone: “Jiang Shuwei, do you have a problem? Calling someone this early is rude, you know?”

Jiang Shuwei immediately confronted her: “Where did the paper you published a few days ago come from?”

Su Mian’s voice sharpened as she seemed to snap awake: “Of course, it’s my own work. What, does that bother you?”

Her breathing became heavy as she added, “I wrote that three years ago. You plagiarized my paper. Stop this behavior immediately.”

“What? Yours? What proof do you have?” Su Mian’s voice grew shrill.

“Proof? I have plenty. Just wait and see,” Jiang Shuwei said angrily before hanging up.

Su Mian couldn’t sleep afterward. She had finally produced a dazzling paper to prove herself a worthy heir to the pharmaceutical empire.

And now, someone threatened to shatter her dream.

“Jiang Shuwei, is that paper really yours?” Panic flooded Su Mian’s heart as she hurriedly dialed another number.

“Brother Chengze, Jiang Shuwei claims the paper is hers. Where did you get it for me?”

Su Mian’s paper had been gifted by Xia Chengze, who had found it in an old cabinet on the third floor of He Jingcheng’s villa.

“What’s the matter, Sister Mian? Isn’t the paper quite popular?” Xia Chengze, a devoted admirer of Su Mian, asked with a smile.

“Jiang Shuwei just called and said that paper was hers. You didn’t… really take her work, did you?” Su Mian’s heart pounded. If Jiang Shuwei exposed this, she would become a laughingstock instead of the pharmaceutical heir.

Xia Chengze’s voice turned serious: “Is Jiang Shuwei giving you trouble?”

“Brother Chengze, I don’t want to be called a thief. What should I do? Is that paper really Jiang Shuwei’s?” Su Mian cried.

“Don’t worry, Sister Mian. I got the paper. I won’t let you get involved,” Xia Chengze reassured her.

“But Jiang Shuwei said she’d find evidence to accuse me?” Su Mian wept harder.

Xia Chengze was silent for a long while before saying, “Then I’ll make sure she never gets the chance.”

Su Mian’s teary eyes widened: “Brother Chengze… she’s Jingcheng’s wife, you know.”

Xia Chengze sneered coldly: “What wife? Just a clown who can’t get love.”

“Brother Chengze, I knew you cared for me most. Thank you,” Su Mian said sweetly, grateful.

Xia Chengze licked his lips eagerly: “Sister Mian, do you love He Jingcheng? Once Jiang Shuwei is out of the picture, you’ll be the next Mrs. He.”

Su Mian’s heart stirred: “When I become Mrs. He, I’ll support the Xia family wholeheartedly, so Brother Chengze can smoothly become the heir.”

“Deal,” Xia Chengze promised.

After hanging up, Su Mian finally exhaled in relief. Surrounded by lifelong friends protecting her, she glanced at Jiang Shuwei—the unloved foster daughter.

What could she possibly compare with her?

At ten o’clock that night, Jiang Shuwei planned to return to the He residence, driving along a sparsely trafficked road leading to the villa cluster.

Suddenly, from a side road, a truck barreled toward her at 120 km/h…

Jiang Shuwei felt the world spin wildly, her body seeming to shatter apart.

The car flipped twice before finally coming to rest in a bed of green flowers.

Her phone and bag had been thrown out. Bloody, she crawled over and grabbed her phone.

She dialed He Jingcheng’s number.

A gentle female voice answered: “Shuwei, Jingcheng drank too much and fell asleep. Are you trying to reach him for something?”

Jiang Shuwei’s heart sank.

Her husband’s phone was answered by Su Mian.

Dizzy and dazed, Jiang Shuwei hung up and immediately called 911.

After the traffic police arrived, passersby had already pulled her from the wreck.

By the time she was taken to the hospital, Jiang Shuwei was unconscious.

When she woke again, she saw her mother-in-law Huang Yujie and the He family patriarch anxiously watching her.

Seeing her awaken, Huang Yujie clasped her hand excitedly: “Shuwei, how do you feel? Any discomfort?”

Jiang Shuwei shook her head: “No, Mom. A truck hit me. Have they found the driver?”

“The police are still investigating. There’s no surveillance on that road, and they suspect the truck might have fake plates,” Huang Yujie said sadly. It was heartbreaking that the driver might never be found.

Just then, the hospital room door was pushed open by a large hand. He Jingcheng entered, followed by Su Mian.

“Grandpa, Mom, she was in a car accident?” He Jingcheng’s expression was cold as he approached the bed.

His gaze was devoid of warmth as he looked at her. “Did she offend someone?”

Jiang Shuwei stared at her husband’s cold expression and then fixed her eyes on Su Mian.

Su Mian looked guilty but maintained a calm, concerned tone: “Shuwei, have they found the driver? Don’t let him get away—he’s gone too far.”

Huang Yujie cast a cold glance at Su Mian: “Miss Su, what are you doing with my son?”

Su Mian immediately lowered her voice: “Jingcheng had too much to drink at a social event. I was worried about him, so I stayed with him…”

Huang Yujie sneered: “Jingcheng has a wife. On what grounds are you taking care of him?”

Su Mian’s eyes reddened as she looked helplessly at He Jingcheng.

He Jingcheng quickly explained: “Mom, I’m now the second-largest shareholder in the Su family business. Su Mian and I were discussing a client deal just last night.”

The He family patriarch spoke sternly: “Miss Su, this is a private family matter. Please leave.”

Su Mian dared not argue with the elder and replied obediently: “Yes, Grandpa He.”

She turned and left.

“He Jiang Shuwei, the police are making arrests. Do you have any suspects?” He Jingcheng pulled up a chair beside her, frowning.

Jiang Shuwei’s forehead was bandaged from the injury, but her eyes were sharp and clear.

“This morning, I saw online that Su Mian published a paper that I wrote three years ago for my graduation thesis. If anyone wanted to harm me, Su Mian is the prime suspect.”

“Jiang Shuwei!” He Jingcheng stared at her sternly. “Don’t make baseless accusations.”

Shaking with pain, Jiang Shuwei gritted her teeth: “I’m not accusing blindly. I’m just stating the facts as I see them.”

“What paper?” the He family patriarch asked.

Jiang Shuwei picked up her phone and showed the paper to him. “This one. It just won three awards. I wrote it three years ago but never published it.”

The patriarch frowned: “I don’t understand it either, but how does this relate to your suspicion of Su Mian?”

“I confronted her, and she denied it. Then I had the accident tonight. I can only suspect she wanted to silence me and cover up the truth,” Jiang Shuwei stated with certainty.

He Jingcheng scoffed: “Jiang Shuwei, whether or not you wrote that paper, accusing Su Mian of being the culprit based on it alone is reckless.”

Jiang Shuwei looked at He Jingcheng: “You asked if I had a suspect, and I answered. Now you don’t believe me.”

He Jingcheng stood and walked behind the hospital bed, picking up her medical records. “Mild concussion and abrasions. And you’re accusing Su Mian? Jiang Shuwei, I know you’ve never liked her being close to me, but taking personal revenge is petty.”

Jiang Shuwei trembled with anger. Was this the white-clothed youth she had once admired?

Why did he favor an outsider so much?

Huang Yujie scolded from the side: “Enough, Jingcheng. Shuwei is your wife. How can you side with an outsider?”

He Jingcheng put down the medical file, hands resting on the bed, looking down at Jiang Shuwei condescendingly: “Honestly, I suspect this whole thing is a drama you fabricated to send Su Mian to jail.”

“I didn’t,” Jiang Shuwei retorted furiously, suddenly sitting up. “He Jingcheng, do you really think I’m that wicked?”

He Jingcheng straightened, folding his arms: “From the moment you schemed to marry me, that’s exactly what I thought.”

“Enough, Jingcheng. Shuwei would never harm herself to frame Miss Su. Don’t wrong her like this,” the patriarch said, unable to watch further.

“Grandpa, Mom, don’t be fooled by her innocent facade. If she weren’t scheming, how could she have become my wife?” He Jingcheng said before turning and leaving the room.

Jiang Shuwei froze, her mind blank.

She had been in a car accident, and in He Jingcheng’s eyes, it was just a self-staged performance.
