Volume 1, Chapter 61: He Sent Air
He Jingcheng abruptly turned around and stared at her. "Jiang Shuwei, stop threatening me with a divorce again! Do you really think I don't want to divorce you?"
"Yes, you simply don't want to," Jiang Shuwei curled her lips into a cold sneer. "You want to trap me, to keep me trapped here for the rest of my life."
He Jingcheng found this utterly ridiculous. Where on earth did this woman get the face to think he wanted to use a marriage to trap her for a lifetime? How could he possibly waste his life on her?
"Fine. Apologize, and I'll agree to the divorce," He Jingcheng coldly dropped these words, turned around, opened the door, and left.
Jiang Shuwei leaned against the wall, utterly weak, as the pain in her heart spread outward.
Composing herself, she returned to the private dining room. By now, everyone had finished eating and drinking. Jiang Shuwei paid the bill, and the group left the hotel.
The Su Family!
Su Mian recounted how Jiang Shuwei had hit her to her parents, making the faces of Su Mian's father and mother turn livid with rage. They swore they would seek justice for their precious daughter.
"This Jiang Shuwei is too arrogant, actually daring to hurt my daughter like this," Su Zhentong slammed his fist onto the table, feeling both heartbroken and angry.
Tong Jiefang's face was equally unsightly. "With Jiang Shuwei relying on the He family for backing, it might be a bit difficult for us to exact revenge on her, unless..."
"Unless what?" Su Zhentong asked.
Tong Jiefang sneered, "Unless she leaves the He family and loses their protection. Only then will we have a chance to drive her to her death."
Su Zhentong didn't react immediately; he glanced at his aggrieved daughter.
Su Mian rolled her eyes and whispered, "If I can marry Brother Jingcheng, then naturally she won't matter to the He family anymore. When that time comes, I could crush her with a single finger."
"Yes, my daughter, you must put in more effort and quickly capture Young Master He." Tong Jiefang had great confidence in her daughter. Moreover, He Jingcheng's investment in the Su family's pharmaceutical enterprise had deepened their cooperation, which was also a manifestation of He Jingcheng expressing his affection for her daughter.
Su Mian had always been confident, and she wanted to perform even better to prove that she was a qualified successor.
"Dad, Mom, don't worry. My feelings for Brother Jingcheng are completely sincere, and one day, he will realize it," Su Mian said, putting on a coy, girlish expression.
Su Zhentong chuckled beside them. "Look at that, the moment Young Master He is mentioned, our daughter's face turns red."
Tong Jiefang, however, wore a deep expression. "My daughter, you can love him, but ideally, you should make him a helper in your career—a stepping stone that can ultimately lift you to even greater heights."
Su Zhentong's expression twitched, and he immediately looked at his strong-willed wife.
"What? Did I say something wrong?" Tong Jiefang noticed the disapproving look on her husband's face. She reached out, picked up the red wine glass on the table, and gently swirled it. "Back then, if I hadn't secured the core technology, the company could never have come back to life."
Su Zhentong immediately frowned. "How many years ago was that? Why bring it up again?"
"I'm going to bring it up." A hint of jealousy surfaced on Tong Jiefang's face. "Must you keep looking for her daughter?"
On this matter, Su Zhentong finally showed a rare spine. "She is my daughter, too."
"You are too confident. Word has it that back then, she was intimate with quite a few of her senior schoolmates. Do you really believe the child she carried was yours?" Tong Jiefang sneered, delivering a sharp blow.
"At that time, she and I were still husband and wife; she couldn't possibly... Anyway, I have to find that child." Looking vexed and recalling his relationship with his ex-wife, Su Zhentong refused to believe she would have been unfaithful during their marriage.
Tong Jiefang finished her wine in one gulp and set the glass down heavily. "Fine, I won't stop you. But like I said, even if you find her, she is not allowed to be brought back into this family."
"Jiefang, when it all comes down to it, we wronged her..." Su Zhentong stood up, wearing a look of self-reproach. "Don't forget, the company's development relied on her..."
"Enough!" Tong Jiefang's face turned instantly grim. "I didn't rely on her. The medical skills of the Tong family are no inferior to hers. Zhentong, are you still blaming me?"
Seated nearby, Su Mian was already unfazed. This wasn't the first time her parents had argued in front of her because of that dead woman.
Su Zhentong let out a heavy sigh and turned to walk upstairs.
Su Mian hurriedly stepped forward and linked her arm through her mother's. "Mom, stop arguing with Dad. He probably just feels guilty."
Tong Jiefang snorted. "He feels guilty? Have I not given so much to this family and this company? Does he even see it?"
"Dad always says you're like a female warrior in his eyes, existing like a hero. Of course he cares," Su Mian leaned her head against Tong Jiefang's shoulder. "Mom, don't worry, I won't let Dad find that girl."
Tong Jiefang turned her head to look at her daughter.
A flash of ruthlessness crossed the depths of Su Mian's eyes. "How could a dead person possibly return to this house?"
Tong Jiefang smiled and stroked her daughter's hair. "No one knows a daughter better than her mother. It seems we are of the same mind."
"Mom, last time I went to that small county town and searched everywhere without finding anything, I thought Dad would give up after that," Su Mian complained in a low voice. "It seems he still hasn't given up hope."
Tong Jiefang looked out at the night scenery through the window, her heart filled with anxiety.
Late at night!
Jiang Shuwei, busy all day, finally returned home.
He Tingting had been waiting for her all along until she fell asleep while hugging her doll in bed.
Jiang Shuwei took a bath, changed into her pajamas, walked upstairs lightly, and gently embraced the little girl.
That night, He Jingcheng did not come home.
Early the next morning! Elder He returned at the crack of dawn.
"Shuwei, Tingting, come have breakfast." The old man was in high spirits, smiling as he greeted the two descending the stairs.
"Grandfather, good morning." He Tingting ran over happily to greet him.
"Grandpa, morning." Jiang Shuwei walked over with a smile.
Elder He glanced toward the direction of the stairs and frowned. "Where on earth is that brat Jingcheng?"
"Uncle didn't come home yesterday," He Tingting chimed in immediately.
The old man sighed, cast a sympathetic look at Jiang Shuwei, and scolded, "This boy is getting more and more unruly."
Jiang Shuwei glanced at the old man, wondering if she should bring up the matter of the divorce to him.
Just at that moment, the sound of a car engine shutting off came from the entrance, and He Jingcheng's figure suddenly stepped inside.
"Uncle..." He Tingting called out happily.
He Jingcheng walked back carrying a suit jacket, looking thoroughly exhausted.
"Where were you ghosting around yesterday?" The old man immediately interrogated him.
He Jingcheng walked right over to the dining table, sat down, and explained, "Grandpa, an overseas project ran into trouble yesterday, and I was in meetings at the company all night."
Elder He was slightly startled; he hadn't received news about this yet.
Now in a semi-retired state, he had gradually handed over all domestic affairs of the He Group to He Jingcheng, only intervening in major events.
"Next time you aren't coming home, you must let Shuwei know," the old man commanded sternly.
Jiang Shuwei was taken aback and looked at He Jingcheng.
She assumed he would inevitably snap back at the old man a few times, and she was already starting to worry.
"Alright, I'll remember," He Jingcheng replied in a calm voice.
Jiang Shuwei was somewhat surprised as she looked at the man; his attitude seemed a bit different today.
Only then was Elder He satisfied. He turned to Shuwei and said, "Shuwei, don't be too timid. You are his wife; if there's anything he does wrong, you must point it out. Make him correct his mistakes when he's wrong, and don't just bottle up your anger. If he really does something outrageous, you can beat or scold him."
Jiang Shuwei gave a wry smile. "Grandpa, I want to be a well-mannered person."
Elder He was amused by her. "You've been very well-mannered since you were a child."
The corner of He Jingcheng's mouth twitched as he drank his congee. Just last night she was getting into a physical fight with someone, and today she wanted to be well-mannered?
"Shuwei, starting today, your career can be considered to have officially entered the right track. Grandpa originally wanted to introduce a few clients to you, but your scale is currently too small and your talent pool insufficient. Once you have the strength, Grandpa will definitely have them look after your work." Elder He looked at Jiang Shuwei with eyes full of praise. This young girl was truly resilient, methodical, independent, and never took the initiative to lean on the He family. She was a child who evoked both deep affection and heartache, and he believed she would surely achieve considerable success in the future.
"Thank you, Grandpa." Jiang Shuwei beamed with joy.
The old man immediately looked at He Jingcheng. "Shuwei's store opened yesterday. What did you give her?"
He Jingcheng's handsome face stiffened.
He had given her thin air.
