Chapter 30: Bo De's Crisis Approaches, Supernatural Powers Unleashed
Stepping out of the temple, the glaring sunlight failed to dispel the dark cloud hanging over Mao Yu’s heart. He keenly sensed that the air around him seemed to have solidified, suffused with a deadly aura. Looking around, what a sight! A sea of black—a vast crowd! Various supernatural factions, as if prearranged, appeared here in unison, each eye glowing green like hungry wolves fixated on a helpless lamb, practically salivating.
"Damn, this scene! More bustling than a New Year market!" Mao Yu cursed inwardly but maintained a calm facade. Mao Ling’s face paled, trembling as she clung tightly behind him like a frightened little rabbit. Although Feng Yao seemed composed on the surface, the grip on Mao Yu’s arm tightened involuntarily.
"Young Master Mao, be sensible and hand over the treasure quickly, or you’ll suffer more than just bruises!" a burly man with a face like a mountain of flesh stepped forward arrogantly. Behind him stood a group of fierce-looking henchmen, clearly no good.
"Heh, something I earned with my life—why should I give it to you?" Mao Yu sneered coldly, his eyes sharp as they swept through the crowd. "Want to steal it? Then you better see if you’re capable."
The atmosphere instantly tensed, crackling as if electricity surged through the air. Various supernatural energies flickered like neon lights in a nightclub—dazzling yet perilous. Mao Yu shielded Feng Yao and Mao Ling behind him, standing firm like an insurmountable mountain.
"Refuse the toast, and you’ll have to drink the penalty wine! Brothers, attack!" The meat mountain bellowed, leading the charge as his massive fist, wrapped in a soil-colored glow, smashed toward Mao Yu.
Mao Yu activated his newly acquired ability—“Absolute Defense.” A golden light shield instantly enveloped him, Feng Yao, and Mao Ling. Confidence surged in his heart, knowing this hard-earned power would protect them fully. The surrounding enemies gaped in disbelief at such formidable defense. Their relentless attacks rained down like raindrops but failed to budge the shield even slightly.
"What the hell is this? So tough?" the meat mountain’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"Is that all?" Mao Yu’s lips curled into a disdainful smile.
"Now, it’s my turn!" With a flash of golden light, Mao Yu vanished from sight. In the next moment, he appeared before the meat mountain and launched a punch! A deafening crash followed, and the meat mountain was slammed away like a punching bag, crashing heavily to the ground, unable to rise for quite some time.
"Boss!" the henchmen shouted in alarm and hurried to their fallen leader.
Mao Yu paid them no mind; his figure flickered again, this time before another group of supernatural users. One hurled an ice spear, but Mao Yu nimbly dodged, using the momentum to strike. A punch shattered the ice shield around the attacker, followed by a kick that sent him flying like an arc through the air, crashing hard onto the ground. Mao Yu continued weaving through the crowd, combining punches and kicks, each move fatal. The dull thuds echoed as one by one, the opponents fell like leaves swept by autumn wind.
Watching Mao Yu’s heroic figure, Feng Yao whispered, "You can do it—I believe in you!" Mao Yu felt a warm surge in his heart and fought with renewed vigor.
Nearby, Mao Ling watched the exchange, her small mouth puckered high in a mix of envy and sorrow, her heart fluttering like a roller coaster with worry for Mao Yu’s safety. She tried to overcome her fear, scanning the surroundings for anything to aid him. When she saw injured enemies, a flicker of pity stirred within her.
The other supernatural factions, seeing Mao Yu’s strength, intensified their attacks. A tide of supernatural powers surged against him. Though “Absolute Defense” was sturdy, cracks began to appear.
"This can’t go on!" Mao Yu thought grimly. Taking a deep breath, a resolute gleam flashed in his eyes.
"Kneel before me!" Mao Yu roared. His voice thundered through the valley, an invisible pressure rippling outward like waves. The ground trembled as stones jumped. The weaker adversaries’ knees suddenly buckled, and with a “thud, thud,” they fell to their knees, eyes wide with terror and despair, as if witnessing the end of the world. The cracks in the “Absolute Defense” quickly mended, the shield growing even stronger, radiating blinding light like a god descending from the heavens.
Even the meat mountain felt his legs weaken, nearly collapsing.
"No... how is this possible?!" he gawked in horror, terror filling his heart. He had never seen such overwhelming power.
"Boss, this guy’s no joke. We should retreat!" a trembling henchman suggested.
"Retreat? Hell no! So many of us, why fear one guy?!" the meat mountain barked, though inside he was already considering a fallback.
Ignoring their chatter, Mao Yu seized their panic and launched another assault. His figure became a streak of golden light, darting through the crowd. Each flash brought down another supernatural user with skillful strikes. The coalition of factions crumbled completely, factions turning on each other, chaos erupting everywhere.
"It’s your fault! What a dumb plan—now we’ve lost everything!"
"Bullshit! You’re the one who egged our boss on!"
Amid the chaos, Mao Yu grabbed Feng Yao and Mao Ling, breaking through and vanishing into the night.
Though they had momentarily shaken off their pursuers, Mao Yu knew this calm was only a lull before the storm. These factions would not give up easily; greater dangers awaited. Moreover, during their escape, Mao Yu sensed a strange aura emanating from the treasure—they seemed linked to some ancient curse.
Staring at the treasure in his hands, worry filled his heart.
"This thing… feels like holding a hot coal…" Mao Yu murmured, as suddenly, the treasure vibrated faintly in his grasp...
