4 Guide
That little foreign guy! What a presumptuous fellow!
Li Shuangjie truly hated it when he said things that made her uncomfortable. Did he lack the social awareness to see that she loathed him? It wasn't as if she hadn't encountered such people before; a slap usually set them straight. Well, it wasn't that she truly hated him; she simply loathed interacting with the vast majority of boys.
Because most of them only looked at the surface.
Only girls ever cared about what lay within.
This wasn't just empty talk. A person's gaze is often laden with emotion; whether positive or negative, it is always palpable. She also believed in a certain adage: if you feel uncomfortable with the way someone is looking at you, do not doubt your intuition—it means they have an issue with you and are simply begging to be put in their place.
When girls looked at her, she felt nothing—calm as a lake.
But when men looked at her, she felt a profound sense of unease.
Li Shuangjie knew exactly where this unease stemmed from. It was the way they appraised her.
Men and women are raised with vastly different educations. People don't just suddenly become men or women; someone must have taught them how. Someone taught these males to look at women with lewd, shameless eyes, always ready to judge, compare, and objectify them.
On top of this, Li Shuangjie was subjected to more of the "male gaze" than others because she was beautiful. It wasn't her own arrogance talking; Li Shuangjie was a goddess of the basketball court, captivating to both men and women alike.
When Li Shuangjie was a child, scouts would often stop her on the street and suggest she become a child star. Her father was incredibly annoyed by this, saying, "To hell with that! My child's appearance is her most insignificant merit. She possesses a vigorous body, a sharp mind, and a mean slap!"
She once asked her father, "How should one define womanhood?"
Her father, a scholar, replied, "The dignity of human nature."
Indeed. To respect women is to respect the most fundamental human rights. Those who demean women should themselves be stripped of their dignity.
Having grown up in such an environment, how could Li Shuangjie ever compromise with injustice? Yet, she was clear-headed; her goal was not to stir up conflict between people. Her slaps were not malicious tricks, but acts of justice to punish the wicked and uphold the good.
Therefore, for the sake of Zheng Lanyu knowing how to ask for her opinion, Li Shuangjie was willing to let him off the hook. She moved her hand away from his mouth and went back to resting her head.
Even while sleeping, her mind was not idle.
Li Shuangjie performed a daily self-reflection:
Did I slap anyone today?
How many did I slap?
Was it satisfying?
Apparently, she had only landed four slaps today. Three in the stairwell, and one for the transfer student.
Li Shuangjie had set a goal for herself: at least five slaps a day. As the saying went: "A slap a day keeps the blues away; five slaps a day, and you'll sleep soundly in bed." If she hadn't landed enough slaps, she would suffer from insomnia. There were a few times she had forgotten, and she was so angry she couldn't sleep half the night, wanting to slap herself. She quickly grabbed a mirror and held it up to her own perfect face.
Oh, you precious thing.
So beautiful.
Li Shuangjie was a woman, after all. She loved herself too much.
In the end, she merely stroked her own cheek gently.
However, just because she didn't slap others didn't mean others weren't lining up to be slapped. After two math periods in the afternoon, there was a class meeting. Zhou Li entered the classroom to discuss sign-ups for the sports meet.
The meet was next Friday, yet very few had signed up. Li Shuangjie had signed up for everything; with her excellent physical condition, inherited from her great mother, she was born to compete for glory on the field.
"But it's useless if only Li Shuangjie signs up," said Zhao Ze, the sports representative, holding the list and shooting a snide look at the girls in the class. "I never see so many people feeling 'unwell' on normal days, but as soon as the sports meet comes around, they all start complaining of headaches, stomachaches, backaches, and leg aches."
Indeed, few girls in the class had signed up. Their lack of enthusiasm was merely an excuse.
Zhou Li looked at the dejected crowd and tried to rally them: "Class 11 is a team. We must have a sense of honor. Is anyone else willing to sign up?"
The girls raised their hands half-heartedly.
Zhao Ze looked at the list: "Still not enough!"
Someone quipped, "Why don't you dress up as a girl and run instead?"
The remark drew a wave of laughter.
Li Shuangjie frowned secretly.
Seeing that no one else spoke up, Zhao Ze put on his authority as the sports representative: "I’m taking note of this! I suppose you're all having your periods next week, right? If any girl uses that as an excuse next time, I won't approve any sick leave for PE or long breaks. You've been warned!"
Before he could finish his threat, someone let out a cry of pain.
It was none other than the transfer student, Zheng Lanyu. He had been blocking Li Shuangjie’s trajectory, and he deserved the kick. This was why Li Shuangjie didn't like having people sit next to her; it interfered with her performance. Because of the commotion, Zhao Ze realized Li Shuangjie was coming for him and scrambled toward the door.
But Li Shuangjie was, after all, a woman.
A strong woman. A vigorous woman.
A woman like a leopard, a woman like a hawk.
A beautiful woman nurtured by the great landscapes of the motherland.
Quick as lightning, she vaulted over her desk, leapt across the podium, overcame all obstacles, grabbed Zhao Ze, and delivered a resounding slap! That wasn't all; she hauled him up onto the podium like a chick, snatched the megaphone from Zhou Li’s hand, and loudly announced:
"This is the live broadcast of 'Classroom Politics'!"
She said, "I am Li Shuangjie, the monitor of Class 11."
She pointed the microphone at Zhou Li: "As the head teacher, what are your thoughts on the general lack of enthusiasm among the girls for the upcoming sports meet? Have you found the root cause? Or were you simply unaware and launched a hasty mobilization effort?"
Zhou Li was flustered: "I said at the meeting a long time ago that everyone should prepare actively."
"Good," Li Shuangjie immediately pulled the microphone back. "As a head teacher, you only issue orders without ensuring follow-through! You haven't considered the actual situation of our class at all!"
Zhou Li was left speechless.
"Let’s connect remotely with the organizational committee member. Wang Peng, get up! How did you organize this?"
The committee member stood up hurriedly: "I... I didn't do nothing! I suggested that the life committee member use the class fund to buy some prizes. Who wants to sign up for a sports meet just for the notebooks and pens the school provides? You... you agree, right?"
Li Shuangjie pondered for a moment: "You, sit down."
The committee member let out a sigh of relief.
Li Shuangjie slowly lowered the microphone.
She swept her dark, majestic gaze across the classroom, scanning her trembling classmates. Every class officer was terrified of being called out. It was more terrifying than the King of Hell taking attendance!
The "King of Hell" Li wanted them dead by the third watch. Who dared to keep them until the fifth?
Unexpectedly, she broke into a pleasant smile and randomly interviewed a girl: "Did you sign up?"
The girl replied, "I... I didn't..."
"Why? Are the prizes not attractive enough?"
She glanced at the life committee member, and the girl complained in a low voice: "What kind of prizes are those? Limited edition basketballs, sports watches, and headbands? The small prizes are just card games that only boys like. Who wants to participate for that? It's exhausting and thankless."
"Hmph!" Li Shuangjie sneered, "If you don't descend to the grassroots, how can you find the root of the disease?!"
The life committee member, who was in charge of the class funds, was a girl. Girls were generally more prone to self-reflection, so she stood up and explained: "I... I originally planned to buy more small prizes that girls would like, but... the boys all said they were boring."
"Boring?" Li Shuangjie looked at Zhao Ze.
She narrowed her eyes, sparks flying: "Boring?"
Zhao Ze shook his head repeatedly: "Not boring, not boring at all!"
The life committee member added, "You were the first one to call them boring!"
Since it involved the use of class funds, Zhou Li frowned: "You can't just make unilateral decisions. The class fund was collected by everyone, so we should consult everyone's opinions. Zhao Ze and his friends don't represent the whole class; you shouldn't just buy whatever they say."
"It's too late for hindsight now!" Li Shuangjie stood back on the podium. "I want a solution! Is there anyone in this court who can offer a suggestion?"
The class officers looked at each other.
Someone suggested, "How about we beat Zhao Ze up?"
The girls suddenly realized: "That's a good idea! Those who sign up can beat Zhao Ze up! If they win a medal, they can beat him twice!"
"Rejected!" Li Shuangjie disagreed.
Zhao Ze looked at Li Shuangjie in shock.
"Beating Zhao Ze is something we can do anytime; we don't need to pick a special day. It’s not the New Year, so stop inflating the price of pork!"
"Here is the plan," she said, acting as the monitor with decisive authority. "Forget the small prizes. Any girl who signs up for the sports meet will get one day of sick leave! Those who place, regardless of whether it's gold, silver, or bronze, will be exempt from morning exercises for half a semester!"
She commanded Zhao Ze, who was holding the list:
"Three, two, one, open the links!"
"Who is signing up for the 800-meter run!"
A row of hands shot up.
"Sprints! Shot put! Jump rope!"
Problems were solved one by one. By the end, all events were filled, and some girls even sighed because they hadn't managed to snag a spot. Li Shuangjie clapped her hands to regain everyone's attention:
"The problem is solved, now it's time for accountability! First, the head teacher! Do you have anything to reflect on?"
Zhou Li, as a teacher, couldn't help but blush deeply: "Next time there's an event, I will consult everyone's opinions in advance and ask for their thoughts."
"Organizational committee member, what about you?"
"I... I will also be more attentive."
"Life committee member." Li Shuangjie was always a bit more lenient toward girls. "Buy what the girls like next time."
"Yes, I'm sorry, Monitor."
"It's the people you've failed!"
Li Shuangjie said a great deal, but she didn't mention Zhao Ze. He felt something was wrong: "Monitor, I..."
"You?" She scoffed, "You've been dismissed!"
"What? Why?" Zhao Ze felt wronged.
"Why?" Li Shuangjie repeated his words, her expression shifting, and she delivered a sharp chop to him.
"So everything I just said went in one ear and out the other? Putting personal interests above the public good—punished! Misappropriating funds—punished! Forming cliques—punished! Failing the people—even more punished!"
She kicked him off the podium.
Her finger shimmered as she pointed—
"Zheng Lanyu! I appoint you as the new sports representative!"
Everyone turned to the blonde, blue-eyed transfer student.
Zheng Lanyu felt panicked: "I..."
"Do you dare to defy the trust of the organization?!"
"A-all right, I accept."
He lowered his face, which was turning a shade of white flushed with red.
"Appropriately introducing foreign talent is conducive to the development of our class's sports program," Li Shuangjie nodded with satisfaction.
Just before stepping off the podium, she coughed lightly:
"Where is that applause as loud as my slaps?"
The girls couldn't help but applaud for her.
Xia Ya couldn't take her eyes off her.
She clapped until her palms were red.
Her heart was burning hot.
When Li Shuangjie returned to her seat, Zheng Lanyu immediately leaned in: "I... I don't think I'm qualified for this."
"Nonsense, you're a foreigner, you want real power?"
Li Shuangjie gave him a sidelong glance, "Dream on!"
"...Then why make me the sports representative?"
"Didn't you want friends?" she said, very impatiently.
"Now that you're the sports representative, boys will surely want to hang out with you! Little golden retriever, remember this: once a person gains power, friends will naturally flock to them."
"But... those aren't true friends."
Li Shuangjie paused, looking at him as if he were an idiot.
"My friend!" she sighed, "There are no permanent friends in this world, only permanent interests!"
