……
In the capital of the Galactic Federation, Star City, inside the towering, conical Mo Yun Building—symbol of the Federation’s supreme authority—chaos had erupted.
Just a few hours earlier, the No. 3 Base on Tumu Star was subjected to a fierce assault, nearly annihilating the entire garrison. Normally, the complete loss of a single No. 3 Base wouldn’t be a catastrophe; even if all bases on Tumu Star were wiped out, it would still be a bearable loss for the Federation.
What truly unsettled them was that today, all the scions of the Federation’s greatest military family, the Lei clan, were stationed at that base. The attack was clearly targeted at them. Should every one of those Lei descendants perish, the Federation would face grave trouble.
Everyone knew the Lei family’s standing within the Federation. The total loss of their heirs would be a monumental disaster—not merely the loss of a few distinguished generals, but a seismic event that would reshuffle the Federation’s major political powers, plunging the entire realm into turmoil.
At this moment, in a luxurious sky villa in Star City, an elderly man with silver hair, dressed in military uniform and sitting upright, wore an expressionless face. His eyes still bore the resolute coldness of eternal ice, but the slight trembling of his shoulders betrayed the immense grief beneath that steadfast exterior.
“Master, perhaps... Second Young Master and the others might still be...” The elderly butler Lei Huan attempted to console the pitiable old man. Over the years, this elder had borne too much, and today’s news was enough to utterly break the towering figure who once could uphold the sky.
“Lei Huan, don’t comfort me. Their identity chips are completely dead. There is no possibility but death. Heaven has forsaken the Lei family, forsaken them indeed. Is this to be the end of our line?” Lei Na’s steely gaze finally shattered, tears streaming down his face.
What could be more agonizing than losing one’s children in old age, the sorrow of a white-haired parent seeing black-haired offspring taken? And not just one, but all of them. The Lei family’s centuries-old legacy was about to be extinguished in his hands.
“Master... please... accept my condolences...” Lei Huan could only say this, uncertain how to soothe the man before him. Having served the Lei family for years, he had witnessed its glory, its legends, and its tribulations.
“The Lei family... is no more,” Lei Na murmured, staring blankly outside. Though a simple sentence, it conveyed profound despair. The most terrifying thing is not the magnitude of one’s troubles but the despair within one’s own heart—a despair beyond rescue.
Hearing this, Lei Huan felt a deep sorrow. The Lei family, a shining beacon across the Federation for centuries, was truly gone? About to collapse entirely? Yet suddenly, a spark flickered in his mind—a name long buried in dust surged to his heart.
Lei Huan’s eyes flickered repeatedly, unsure whether to speak this forbidden name, one that had not been mentioned in the Lei family for over twenty years.
After several minutes of hesitation, unwilling to see this sorrowful old man broken, unwilling to see the family he had served nearly a lifetime crumble, he took a deep breath and summoned all his courage. Approaching, he bent close to Lei Na’s ear and spoke slowly: “Master, the Lei family is not extinct. The Lei family... still has a male heir.”
Lei Na’s eyes sharpened immediately, regaining the commanding presence that once made him the Federation’s foremost marshal, whose every stomp echoed like thunder across military and political spheres.
“You mean to say...” Lei Na finally refrained from uttering the name. Too many entanglements, too much emotional struggle—he had long severed his thoughts of that person.

“That’s right. Third Young Master... Third Young Master is still alive... Though he has endured much, he is blood of the Lei family. Moreover... Master, Third Young Master has a son. Though the child was born to Ye Yuting, he is still of our Lei bloodline and can continue our family legacy.”
“Third Young Master?” At last, a flicker of emotion crossed Lei Na’s eyes as he spoke the title he had nearly forgotten.
Meanwhile, in the detention cell on Tumu Star, Lei Bin finally managed to open the iron door after hours of strenuous effort.
“Damn it, I’m finally out,” Lei Bin exclaimed excitedly, cursing. Those hours had been torturous. Learning to pick the lock was no small feat—demanding in every aspect. Though the Starlight Dream database had ample tutorials, being inside the cell, unable to see outside and blindly fumbling, made it extremely difficult.
Fortunately, the detention cell’s lock wasn’t particularly secure; otherwise, it would have been impossible to open in a single day. After all, detainees were not criminals, only being punished temporarily—there was no need for an overly complex lock.
Stepping out, Lei Bin was stunned by the view outside. The corridor revealed ruins everywhere; the once bustling base, akin to a city, was utterly destroyed, reduced to rubble.
From a distance, soldiers clad in Imperial uniforms could be seen, carrying electromagnetic rifles, searching for survivors. Modern infantry weapons primarily consist of electromagnetic guns, also called Gauss rifles, which fire projectiles at extreme velocities using electromagnetic force, inflicting devastating damage. Such powerful rifles can even pierce the steel armor of mechs.
“Damn, it’s over. This place is completely occupied. I need to get out fast,” Lei Bin thought, crouching as he hurried down the corridor. Being captured would be unbearable.
“This is the wrong way. To escape quickly, you need to head in the other direction, exit through the back door, and reach the jungle outside. Then make your way to the nearby No. 2 Base. That’s the safest route.”
Starlight Dream issued the command again.
Lei Bin naturally obeyed Starlight Dream’s guidance. He doubted he could leave alone without help, but with Starlight Dream’s aid, things were different.
He was somewhat grateful that Starlight Dream had inadvertently linked into his brain; otherwise, he might never have escaped the cell and would surely have been captured.
Following Starlight Dream’s instructions, Lei Bin slipped out the back door.
At the back door, no one was in sight. The Imperial soldiers had evidently not yet searched this area. Lei Bin whispered a silent prayer and sprinted toward the dense forest.
With Starlight Dream’s guidance, Lei Bin no longer feared becoming lost, navigating toward the No. 2 Base.
Entering the thick jungle, Lei Bin finally exhaled in relief. In such an environment, survival chances were still high.
He only needed to carefully avoid danger, reach the No. 2 Base, and he would be safe.
Lei Bin leisurely made his way through the jungle. Night had fallen, and he planned to find a place to rest for the night.

“According to my records of the terrain near No. 3 Base, there is a wide cave 3.8 kilometers ahead at the eleven o’clock direction. It can serve as a resting place for the night,” Starlight Dream continued to guide Lei Bin.
With Starlight Dream, even at night and deep within dense jungle, Lei Bin had no fear of losing his way.
After traveling 3.8 kilometers as instructed, Lei Bin finally spotted the cave. Just as he prepared to approach, Starlight Dream warned again: “There are people inside the cave, with armed soldiers on watch nearby.”
Startled, Lei Bin crouched low and asked, “Starlight Dream, how did you detect people here?”
“I can perform radar-like detection through your brainwaves,” Starlight Dream replied.
“What? That’s possible?” Lei Bin was amazed. He essentially carried a small radar with him. He knew that advanced martial artists could develop a sensory perception allowing them to perceive their surroundings even with closed eyes, but he never expected to gain such a superpower without being a martial artist.
If he went shopping in the future, could he use this ability to peek into women’s fitting rooms? A wicked smile curled at Lei Bin’s lips.
“These people are likely not Imperial soldiers. Based on analysis, they are probably Federation soldiers who escaped. You can join them to increase your chances of safety. The jungle is dominated by the insectoid species; facing large numbers of them alone means certain death,” Starlight Dream advised.
Lei Bin was shocked by this reminder. He had forgotten about the many insectoid creatures in the jungle and had assumed that escape meant safety. He nodded and stepped forward, calling out: “Brothers ahead, which unit are you from? I’m a new recruit assigned to the 527th Barracks.”
The patrol didn’t notice Lei Bin at first. Hearing the call, they were startled and immediately raised their guns, demanding, “Who goes there?”
Lei Bin raised his hands and grinned: “Brothers, don’t shoot! I’m one of you, from the 527th Barracks. I’m a new patrolman here, just arrived a few days ago.”
The armed men approached and saw Lei Bin’s Federation uniform, then took him along, saying, “You’re from the 527th Barracks? Captain Loulan from your unit is here. Have her verify you, and we’ll know if you’re legit.”
“Captain Loulan is here?” Hearing this, Lei Bin groaned inwardly. How unlucky could he be to run into Captain Loulan?
