“Actually, it doesn’t have to be so complicated,” Jiang Jingming suddenly said.

Sang Yu looked up, puzzled. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, if you want him to repay the money, it’s not that difficult. You just need to tell me, and I can help.”

Sang Yu understood his implication and replied, “Using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, and you’re a police officer. How could I ask you to do something like that?”

Of course, she knew that if he took action, the money would definitely be recovered in one go.

But it was better not to involve Jiang Jingming in such matters.

After all, it wasn’t exactly honorable.

That family was capable of anything. If they caused trouble at Jiang Jingming’s police station, it would affect his work.

Such things were better handled by someone like her, who had no job.

Hearing Sang Yu’s words, Jiang Jingming felt a little happy—she was thinking of him.

A reluctant smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

Suddenly, he found the food at the state-run restaurant quite delicious today.

After the meal, Sang Yu asked Jiang Jingming to accompany her to the mall.

Following his principle of speaking less and doing more, Jiang Jingming went in with her.

Sang Yu first bought some gifts.

She wasn’t pretending to visit relatives; after all, it was very rude to have missed the last visit.

This time was to make amends.

“Besides your uncle and aunt, are there other relatives?” Sang Yu asked.

Jiang Jingming shook his head. “No, just uncle, aunt, a cousin named Jiang Chunhe, and a cousin named Jiang Lan.”

“Is your cousin married?” Sang Yu inquired.

“Yes.”

“Any children?”

“Not yet.”

“How old is Jiang Lan?”

“Twelve.”

Twelve years old? That must be the little girl who brought her food last time.

Thinking of that girl, she should be in school now.

Sang Yu bought some supplements for uncle and aunt, a skincare set for her cousin-in-law, and a new backpack and outfit for Jiang Lan.

“Comrade, the total is three hundred and fifty-seven yuan, two cloth tickets, three grain tickets, and three industrial tickets,” the clerk said.

Sang Yu took out money and tickets from her pocket and handed them over.

The clerk gave a strange glance at the man behind Sang Yu.

Her eyes seemed to say: What kind of good man lets a woman pay?

Sang Yu lowered her head to check the items, ignoring the clerk’s gaze.

Jiang Jingming noticed but didn’t mind—his money was all with Sang Yu.

Except for some cash he took yesterday to buy those appliances.

His pockets were otherwise empty.

Sang Yu looked up and found the clerk watching them. “Is there a problem? Not enough money?”

“It’s enough, it’s enough,” the clerk hurriedly said, giving Sang Yu change.

“Here’s three yuan back.”

Sang Yu took the money, and Jiang Jingming naturally picked up the bags.

“Let’s go.”

“Alright,” Jiang Jingming replied.

The clerk watched them leave, surprised that such a big man could do something like this.

Truly, appearances can be deceiving.

He was handsome—so why wasn’t he doing something proper?

Then Sang Yu took Jiang Jingming to the Friendship Store, where the counters displayed all kinds of watches.

Jiang Jingming suddenly asked, “Don’t you like the watch I bought you yesterday?”

Sang Yu said, “I do. But now, I’m buying one for you.”

The man was momentarily stunned, a flash of joy in his eyes.

Sang Yu approached the counter and asked the clerk, “Comrade, could you please take out this watch for me?”

“Certainly.”

The clerk brought out the watch Sang Yu pointed to.

“Would you like to try it on?” the clerk asked.

Sang Yu looked at Jiang Jingming. “Want to try it on?”

Jiang Jingming snapped out of his delight. “Sure.”

He then stepped forward and held out his hand.

Sang Yu had thought the clerk would put it on for him.

But unexpectedly, he extended his hand toward her.

She had no choice but to put the watch on his wrist.

Her cool fingertips brushed against his arm, sending a tingle up her spine.

He tried hard to ignore the cool touch, his body tense.

Veins on his arm subtly bulged.

The way she fastened the watch looked like she was placing a wedding ring.

The clerk at the side watched this pink bubble moment, eyes sparkling.

Handsome man and beautiful woman, a perfect match—the way the man looked at her was almost seductive.

Sang Yu gazed at the silver watch on his wrist. Indeed, a watch was a man’s best fashion accessory.

Such a sensual hand—too tempting to resist.

It was just a watch, yet it felt like… something else entirely.

She felt her body grow warm—but only with handsome men, not to be imitated lightly.

“All done,” Sang Yu released his hand, telling herself not to think any further or she might be in trouble.

The man regained his composure, looking at the watch on his wrist—the gift she had given him.

“How do you like it?” Sang Yu asked.

“Hmm,” Jiang Jingming nodded, restraining himself.

Sang Yu smiled. “Good.”

She then turned to the clerk. “How much is this watch?”

“I guess you two will be together for many years,” the clerk said.

Sang Yu blinked in confusion. “What? Together for many years?”

The clerk suddenly realized his mistake. “Sorry, what did you say?”

Sang Yu repeated, “How much is this watch?”

“Without a receipt, two hundred thirty-eight yuan; with a receipt, two hundred and ten.”

“Alright.”

Sang Yu took out an industrial ticket and two hundred and ten yuan.

After the clerk issued the receipt, they left.

Jiang Jingming kept glancing at his watch along the way, a smile he couldn’t suppress tugging at his lips.

After sending Sang Yu home, he said, “You rest at home for a bit. I’ll head to the police station. Don’t touch anything at home for now. When I get back, you don’t need to cook tonight—I’ll bring food.”

Sang Yu thought the man was being overly attentive today.

But since she was tired after shopping all morning, she agreed.

Once Sang Yu was back in her room, Jiang Jingming drove to the police station.

“Captain? Weren’t you on leave?” Lin Wen looked surprised.

“Didn’t you accompany your sister-in-law to visit her family?” Jiang Jingming suddenly asked. “What time is it now?”

Lin Wen glanced at his watch. “Three fourteen. Why?”

Jiang Jingming looked at his own wristwatch. “Hmm, the time’s right.”

Lin Wen was puzzled.

Seeing Lin Wen silent, Jiang Jingming asked, “When you’re on duty, does wearing a watch affect you?”

Lin Wen didn’t understand but answered, “No.”

“Hmm,” Jiang Jingming nodded.

Lin Wen was baffled but suddenly it clicked.

The captain never wore a watch before, and this one looked brand new.

“No way.”

“Captain, this watch was bought for you by your sister-in-law, right?”

Jiang Jingming’s neck twitched slightly. “Yes.”

Lin Wen: Really…

“Your sister-in-law has great taste—the watch suits you perfectly. She’s very good to you.”

Jiang Jingming pretended to be serious. “Alright, you guys keep working. I’m leaving.”

Lin Wen watched Jiang Jingming leave without hesitation. So he just came to show off the watch his sister-in-law gave him?

When did the captain become so childish?
