Volume 1, Chapter 35: I was already half-undressed, and he tells me this?
The little white bear, finally saved, stared at her benefactor in astonishment.
Li Chuan did not look at her; instead, he was marveling at a realization in his heart.
So, this daily mission takes place in a shared space for all players? Does this mean this place isn't a virtual environment created by the system, but a location that actually exists?
Good heavens!
"H-how are you here too?"
Seeing Li Chuan silent, Bai Tingting spoke up again.
Li Chuan lowered his head. "Perhaps heaven is giving me a chance for revenge."
Bai Tingting’s face instantly paled. "Ah! Ah! I was wrong, I was wrong! I shouldn't have tricked you with that salt jar. I’ll compensate you, I’ll compensate you right now!"
Li Chuan’s lips curled upward. "Ten silver coins, not a single one less!"
Bai Tingting hurriedly took out ten silver coins and shoved them into Li Chuan’s hand. "Here! Take them! It’s settled, I’ve compensated you, so you can’t kill me now."
Damn, I asked for too little!
"Kill you? Heh, what value is there in killing you?"
Li Chuan pocketed the silver coins, opened the metal door, and stepped inside. Since there were only two zombies despite how loudly this woman was screaming, it meant this space was temporarily safe.
"Ah! Wait for me, wait for me, big brother, big brother!"
Seeing Li Chuan walk away, Bai Tingting stood stunned for a moment before scrambling after him. "Please, I beg you, take me with you, won't you? I can't kill that many test subjects on my own."
The woman was above-average in appearance, in her early thirties, with a somewhat baby-faced look and a full figure. Now, with her crying, she was actually quite alluring. But Li Chuan was here to complete a mission and had no interest in a woman of this caliber.
"What does that have to do with me? I advise you to keep your voice down. If you attract danger, you’ll definitely be the one who can't get away."
Bai Tingting hurriedly grabbed his sleeve. "Don't, don't be so heartless. Please, help me, I beg you."
Li Chuan stopped, turned around, and looked at the "little white bear" with a playful gaze. "Your nickname is Little White Bear, right? That 'bear' of yours is certainly not small. If you want me to help you, shouldn't you be sensible and offer something in return?"
Bai Tingting froze instantly, then bit her lip. "C-can I..."
"Don't walk away! I agree. Right here? Then you must be quick; we have a hundred monsters to kill between the two of us."
The sexy young woman began to shed her clothes. She was terrified of zombies, but she was quite efficient at this. Large swaths of smooth, snow-white skin were exposed to Li Chuan's sight.
"Stop! Who said I wanted to do that? Put your clothes on! Stand in front of me and scout the way!"
Bai Tingting was bewildered. I’d already taken off half my clothes, and he tells me this? Scout the way?
"No! I can't, those monsters will eat me!"
Li Chuan pulled out his crossbow. "I’ll finish them off before they can eat you!"
Without waiting for her to speak, he continued, "Choose: you keep walking on your own, or you scout the way for me. I’ll say this now—I don't have time to wait for you to hesitate."
Bai Tingting finally gritted her teeth and said, "I... I’ll scout the way for you."
"Then get moving! Faster!"
In this dim, unpredictable place where a zombie could lunge out at any moment, having a scout made Li Chuan feel much more at ease.
*Roar! Roar!*
A zombie suddenly burst through a door and lunged at Bai Tingting, startling her into a scream as she turned and ran. Seeing there was only one test subject, Li Chuan used a stun arrow before closing the distance.
Fire Element Enchantment! Leap! Weak Point Strike!
...
One minute later, the headless zombie slumped to the ground. Bai Tingting finally dared to approach.
"You're so strong." She paused, then asked, "Um, can I take the next one?"
Li Chuan nodded readily. "As long as you scout the way, I will absolutely make sure you finish the mission."
...
"This laboratory is a good spot. Come in, I’ll help you farm zombies!"
The large laboratory they entered was identical in size to the previous one, and the layout of the metal doors was nearly the same. If not for the difference in furniture, Li Chuan would have thought he was caught in a ghost loop.
After securing the metal door with a chain, Li Chuan opened a crack and knocked loudly.
*Roar! Roar!*
*Thump, thump, thump, thump.*
Instantly, several test subjects crowded against the door crack, clawing desperately at the two of them.
Bai Tingting shrieked, "Ah! Ah! Ah!"
Li Chuan covered his ears. "Ms. Bai, please stop the performance. If you tell me you’re too scared to use such a simple method to kill monsters, I really won't be able to help you."
After saying this, he used his enchanted longsword to hack at the heads of the zombies. Seeing that Li Chuan’s method was indeed effective and safe, Bai Tingting immediately followed suit, hacking at zombies at another door.
Soon, all the test subjects in the small rooms around the laboratory were wiped out. Li Chuan’s mission progress reached forty-three, leaving only seven left, with over an hour remaining until the mission ended.
Completing the mission was now a certainty. That was a relief.
"Let’s go, keep scouting. We need to find the next laboratory."
Bai Tingting looked at Li Chuan with a pitiful expression, her large eyes misty. But Li Chuan remained unmoved; he insisted she scout the way.
...
In the dark, deep corridor, Li Chuan and Bai Tingting moved forward one after the other.
"There’s a crossroads ahead, be careful!"
Bai Tingting nodded tremblingly, holding her long blade like a fire poker as she stepped forward. She had passed more than one crossroads, and usually, there was no danger; even if there were, Li Chuan had always resolved it. Having a strong man behind her made her fear for the zombie creatures gradually fade.
Behind her, Li Chuan held his breath, alert for any test subjects that might appear. He wasn't afraid of zombies—three or five were nothing; they were slow and clumsy. But the cyan zombie dogs were too dangerous. He could handle one, but if there were more, he would have no choice but to use "Leap" and run.
In Li Chuan’s field of vision, Bai Tingting’s body suddenly paused as she passed the crossroads. She turned her head to look to the left, and only after a few seconds did she turn back and continue walking.
"What did you see?"
Bai Tingting answered with a tremble, "A... a human statue, nothing else."
She continued to walk forward slowly. Li Chuan followed silently behind her.
Just as Li Chuan’s figure stepped past the wall!
*Whoosh!*
A sharp whistling sound of an arrow piercing the air suddenly rang out.
*Side roll!*
Li Chuan used his side-roll skill the moment he reached the spot.
Damn it. I knew something was fishy!
That woman clearly saw something but claimed there was nothing; she was obviously lying, which was why Li Chuan had remained cautious. It seemed his caution hadn't been in vain.
"Damn, he’s slippery. Old Zheng, Xiao Zhou, stop hiding—let’s just kill him!"
Three vicious-looking figures appeared in the corridor, completely blocking Li Chuan’s path.
"Heh, it’s you guys? How did you know I was here?"
