Chapter Five: Huang Dabao

The few blond-haired men froze, completely taken aback by Xu Yi’s actions. No one had expected that the moment Xu Yi saw them, he would turn and run away at a speed almost instantaneous. By the time they reacted, his figure had already nearly vanished around the corner.

“Damn it! This kid’s definitely got something wrong with him! Chase him! No matter what, we have to catch him today!” the blond leader shouted, leading the charge in pursuit.

A fierce fire ignited in Huang Dapao’s heart. Although Xu Yi’s reaction exceeded his expectations, it confirmed the rumors were true. The tales of this kid sweeping through every lottery store in Jiangtai District and winning every scratch ticket were real. From what Huang Dapao had heard, Xu Yi had won at least hundreds of thousands.

But that wasn’t the key point. The real prize was the certainty that Xu Yi must have some special method to guarantee a win. If Huang Dapao could get his hands on that secret, he could become rich without lifting a finger.

“Ha ha ha!” Huang Dapao laughed heartily at the thought.

“Boss… that kid’s running too fast. We don’t seem to be able to catch up on foot. Should we try another way? Maybe we can take bikes,” one of his underlings whispered in his ear.

“Hm?” Huang Dapao snapped out of his daydream. He realized he’d been so lost in his fantasies that he hadn’t noticed just how fast Xu Yi was running—like he was on some kind of drug. The distance between them and Xu Yi was growing wider, and at this rate, they would lose him for sure. It was embarrassing that he hadn’t noticed until his own men pointed it out.

Blushing with shame but furious, Huang Dapao slapped the underling hard across the face. “Shut up! You talk too much. You know how to ride a bike? Then go now!”

Grumbling curses, Huang Dapao and his men quickly grabbed shared bikes from the side and chased after Xu Yi.

Xu Yi kept a close eye on what was behind him. His body had been altered by poison, enhancing his stamina and speed to several times faster than his peak before. If he wanted to lose these men, it would be easy. But when he noticed there were only six of them following, he changed his mind.

As the six men got on their bikes and managed to close the distance, Xu Yi sneered and suddenly turned into a side alley. Due to road construction, the city had fenced it off, turning it into a dead end—an entrance with no exit.

Xu Yi stopped and looked back.

Huang Dapao and his six men arrived, panting heavily on their bikes. Seeing Xu Yi so calm and relaxed, Huang Dapao felt utterly mocked and deeply displeased.

“Damn! You little punk, got the guts to run again? Why’ve you stopped?” Huang Dapao threw his bike aside and yelled at Xu Yi.

“Hey, kid! Be smart. We chased you all this way! Hand over the money you got and show some respect to Boss Bao. Otherwise, we’ll beat you until you don’t even recognize your own mother.”
