Chapter 29: God
The Hall of Ten Thousand Things was as prosperous as he had imagined. Li Fengyin and Shen Liangxin bought quite a few things together, including, of course, a respectable suit for each of them. When Li Fengyin looked at himself in the mirror, he could not help touching his nose.
“Better than I expected.”
“Then wear the suit. It suits you rather well.”
Admiration glimmered in Shen Liangxin’s eyes. “Throw away the old clothes.”
“Mm.”
He nodded, and the two of them left the Hall of Ten Thousand Things. There were simply too many people here; as a landmark, it was only natural for the place to be crowded.
Granny Meng had vanished at some point. Li Fengyin had only just realized it. Over the past few days, she had spoken to him continuously about one matter after another, yet when she left, she had done so with the same quiet composure.
As the two of them walked through Furong Garden, music and dancing began on the stage in the middle of the lake. The crowds pressed close together, the lights shone brilliantly, and their reflections trembled upon the water. Beneath the vast black canopy of night, it gave one the feeling of having returned to an age of splendor.
At that moment, Li Fengyin noticed something unusual. Characters began to emerge upon the surface of the lake, eventually forming several lines visible only to him:
The Three Knowledges of the Spirit King and God:
First, scientific knowledge.
Second, knowledge of stories.
Third, knowledge of nature.
“This was the classification of knowledge that God and I came up with before...”
Murmuring to himself, Li Fengyin once again remembered fragments of the past. Then, without warning, the words vanished. A hollow figure radiating golden light appeared in his mind. The radiance faded, and the figure transformed into a paramecium.
God had taken the form of a paramecium.
“You must save everything...”
Li Fengyin whispered to himself. It seemed those were words he had spoken to God before. And now God had returned—upon his right hand.
He raised his hand. Li Fengyin could see nothing, yet he knew that God was truly there.
The Spirit King represented justice. God represented correctness. So long as the two were together, everything would be both correct and just.
“At last, you can remember what arithmetic is for.”
A young, hollow voice appeared in Li Fengyin’s mind. “And you? Have you found the answer?”
Li Fengyin’s expression remained calm as he replied within the sea of his mind, “Calculation affects everything. Arithmetic is a form of magic.”
A familiar sensation stirred upon his tongue, and Old Neng once again ground his teeth in hatred of Li Fengyin.
Even so, the two were the best of friends.
God had blocked Li Fengyin’s quantum entanglement, so Shen Liangxin had heard none of their conversation. Some matters had to be revealed at the proper time.
That much was certain to both Li Fengyin and Old Neng.
“How much of your intelligence has returned?” Old Neng asked.
Li Fengyin wanted to sigh, but held it back. “Only a little. I overworked my mind before and burned it out. It’s rather absurd.”
“What about your emotional intelligence?”
Old Neng already knew the answer, but still wanted to confirm it.
“It’s all right.”
That was Li Fengyin’s reply. By “all right,” he probably meant better than most people in the world.
“Do you still have omniscience and omnipotence?”
This was Old Neng’s next question. Li Fengyin answered helplessly, “They’re almost entirely gone. I have no memory, as you know.”
What remained in Li Fengyin’s mind was not memory, but impressions.
And the most frightening part was that Li Fengyin’s omniscience and omnipotence resided in his left hand.
God’s omniscience and omnipotence resided in his right.
The true God was not present beside Li Fengyin. The paramecium was merely his incarnation. The real God—the God who had taken human form—was currently on Earth.
“What a long night!”
Old Neng sighed. “We have already entered the final three years.”
“Will the road become more difficult?”
Li Fengyin answered his own question. “Perhaps.”
Shen Liangxin took Li Fengyin’s left hand, and together they continued toward the other attractions within Furong Garden. Beneath the full moon of the Mid-Autumn Festival, they spent a wonderful holiday together.
There was no denying it: they were both happy.
The scene shifted to a five-star hotel in Shangbei City. Mikov Lepton, president of America’s third-largest merchant bank, laid out his bargaining chip.
“I will force those people to stand before the public and face the reshuffling. No one will be able to remain untouched.”
Su Mingyu replied softly, “That seems inevitable. Can it really count as a bargaining chip?”
“Hmph!”
Lepton’s response was blunt. “Then kill me!”
Su Mingyu, the Falling Feather White Blade, understood his attitude. He casually tossed out a dagger, but it struck the floor at Lepton’s feet.
“Keep the dagger. It is proof.”
Lepton had already closed his eyes and was waiting for death, only to receive such an answer from Su Mingyu.
In truth, if those people died in China, it would also damage China’s reputation. America would take the opportunity to place further pressure and sanctions upon the country. After all, only by standing on the moral high ground could one speak with confidence.
That was something Lepton realized only after returning to America.
Then again, who could blame him for not wanting to die?
The scene shifted again. Li Fengyin was answering several questions posed by God. After all, God possessed more knowledge than any other being in the world, but Li Fengyin’s answers would also prove useful to him.
Li Fengyin knew perfectly well that God’s ultimate goal was to become the greatest victor in the endless cycle of reincarnation.
That did not conflict with his own.
As for Li Fengyin’s goal, he merely hoped that everything would remain safe and well.
Furong Garden was enormous, and it had once hosted leaders from countries across the world. Shen Liangxin and Li Fengyin soon arrived at a jade shop.
“This is a piece of jade once purchased by the Crown Prince of the Sand Kingdom.”
The shop assistant introduced the item with great enthusiasm. The customers before her looked exceedingly wealthy and distinguished, so she was putting in a hundred and twenty percent of her effort.
“...”
Li Fengyin could only remain speechless. It truly was a matter of clothes making the man. After changing into a suit, even the treatment he received was different.
Shen Liangxin chose a pendant. It closely resembled the one around Li Fengyin’s neck, though hers was shaped like a small sword.
Li Fengyin’s pendant was a small blade the color of ink.
That night, Shangbei City was especially splendid beneath the Mid-Autumn moon. After leaving Furong Garden, the two of them went to the City That Never Sleeps, which was, in truth, merely a pedestrian street.
Yet it was a place where the night never slept, a place woven with swirling lights.
“It is said that more than sixty percent of China’s tourists have crowded in here...”
Shen Liangxin held Li Fengyin’s hand, but even so, they still felt as though the surging crowds might separate them at any moment.
After a few more steps, two familiar figures appeared before them. Amid the throng, Su Yuxian and Pang Wei flashed past, yet both happened to see the other two.
The four met once again.
“Pang Wei has learned about some things,” Su Yuxian said softly. “He has made his own choice as well.”
When they reached a late-night food stall, they were finally able to rest for a while. Holidays were exhausting too—that was Li Fengyin’s judgment—but the weariness was well worth it.
