The agent, still sweating from the heat despite wearing a sun hat on the way here, held the medical report and read it word by word, muttering, “The brain is fine... so why does it look like he was kicked by a donkey...?”

Wang Chuanze lay on the hospital bed, his gaze fixed on the pure white ceiling, his eyes cold and piercing.

The agent placed the report on the bed, hands on hips, standing by the bedside. “My man, what exactly happened? You won’t even tell me... The hospital results are out, there’s nothing wrong, so when can we get discharged?”

Wang Chuanze sat up, took a sip of water from the cup beside him, glanced at the time displayed at the bottom right of the news channel on the TV: “July 1, 2017.”

Looking down, he saw a pair of slender, well-defined hands—beautiful, but they were not his own.

It seemed that something incredible had happened to him.

The agent kept muttering beside him. Wang Chuanze felt a headache coming on, lay back down on the bed, closed his eyes, and a flood of memories not his own surged in. Frowning, enduring dizziness and stabbing pain, after an unknown amount of time, he finally cleared his thoughts and understood his current situation.

He had transmigrated.

The word “transmigration” was one he’d only discovered after receiving the memories of the original owner.

The original owner was also named Wang Chuanze, a senior who had just graduated from a top domestic university. By a stroke of luck, he participated in an academic talent variety show, gaining some minor fame. Due to his outstanding looks, an entertainment company approached and signed him, making him an artist.

Wang Chuanze went to the bathroom to wash his face. When he looked up, he saw a beautiful person.

His features were delicate and refined, his complexion pale and jade-like, with captivating eyes and brows—a naturally star-like face.

But at this moment, the sharpness in his gaze suppressed the original gentleness of his brow, making him appear cold and sharp.

Outside, the agent was still grumbling, “We’re wasting medical resources here. X-rays done, MRI done, CT done, nothing wrong, yet you’re still stuck in the hospital. Ancestor, what exactly do you want to do...”

Wang Chuanze said nothing. It was the original owner’s misfortune—so young, just entering the entertainment industry, and already encountering a stalker fan. Worse, the fan wasn’t even after him. Because the company provided the apartment where all their artists lived, the stalker had the wrong person. Late at night, the fan climbed through the window and scared the original owner, who was playing with his phone on the balcony.

The original owner wanted to call the police, but the fan, realizing the mistake and getting emotional, tried to grab his phone. They struggled, and in the tussle, the original owner accidentally fell off the balcony.

The apartment was only on the third floor. Logically, the worst injury would have been broken limbs, recoverable after a few weeks in the hospital. But fate was cruel—he hit his head first, and by the time he was found and rushed to the hospital, he was dead. Meanwhile, Wang Chuanze had transmigrated into his body, and the original injuries disappeared without a trace—not even a scratch.

“Damn it! I’m telling you, Wang Chuanze...” The agent cursed once before Wang Chuanze’s cold gaze turned toward him.

The agent suddenly felt something was off about him. Under that chilling look, he shrank back, swallowed his curse, and said, “Ancestor, you really are my ancestor, fine. But we can’t stay in the hospital forever. The company just got you a new role, and now you’re slacking off. Do you even want to keep working in this industry?”

Wang Chuanze didn’t want to stay in the industry at all, but the original owner’s dream was to become a famous actor at home and abroad. Having transmigrated into the original’s body and been reborn, he owed it to him to fulfill that destiny.

Moreover, the original had signed a contract with the company with a breach penalty of over a million yuan. If he quit now, he wouldn’t be able to pay the company.

Most importantly, he didn’t know if Sheng Sheng existed in this world. If she did, even with a different name and appearance, the chances of finding her were slim. But if he became a superstar in the spotlight, and Sheng Sheng also retained memories from their past life, the odds of her finding him would be much higher.

So, though unwilling, he had no choice but to take one path.

Wang Chuanze took his clothes from a nearby assistant’s bag and went to change in the bathroom.

He glanced at the flashy clothes, silver chains here, ripped holes there, and frowned slightly.

But there was no choice now. After packing up, he said, “Let’s discharge.”

He would have to find time later to replace all the clothes in the original owner’s wardrobe.

The agent breathed a sigh of relief. At last, this guy was ready to leave the hospital.

Meng Shengsheng was eating breakfast, her right hand busy scrolling through local job listings on her phone, looking for summer jobs.

Having stayed in the film city for two weeks, Meng Shengsheng realized that although background acting paid reasonably well, competition was fierce. Sometimes, luck would grant two or three gigs a day, earning several hundred to a thousand yuan; other times, she might go three or four days without work.

Thinking of this, she sighed.

Though mentally mature, she was still a pretty young woman who had just turned eighteen and come from an orphanage. With no educational background or family support, her skills from her previous life couldn’t just reappear out of nowhere. She had no funds either, and the current market was not a good time to start a business...

Better not to think about it; the more she did, the more depressing it became.

After flipping through several pages of job listings with no luck, her phone rang. The caller ID showed Guo Lihua.

“Shengsheng, are you still handing out flyers at the amusement park today?”

Meng Shengsheng swallowed her bite and replied, “Not going.”

In the scorching heat, wearing a mascot costume was suffocating; if it weren’t for her youth and good health, she’d already be hospitalized with heatstroke.

Guo Lihua said, “Perfect. My friend said that the Golden View Mall has a brand event and invited some popular idols. They need a few part-time helpers. Want to go? Three hundred a day, mostly running errands and setting up the venue.”

Meng Shengsheng said, “Okay, I’ll go.”

“Good. I’ve signed us up. Tomorrow, we need to be there by 7:30 a.m. Don’t be late.”

“Got it.”

After a good rest, Meng Shengsheng woke early the next day, ate breakfast, checked the route on her phone, and took the subway at six. By the time she arrived at the mall, it was exactly 7:30.

The organizer assigned them tasks and left the assistant to oversee the progress. He disappeared quickly.

Meng Shengsheng and several other part-timers were busy all morning. Although not physically demanding, the event required a lot of varied tasks. By just after ten, Meng Shengsheng was already feeling hungry.

After a boxed lunch, they worked until mid-afternoon. Around three o’clock, a black chauffeured car appeared outside the mall.

Several celebrities got out wearing masks and fashionable clothes—they were the event’s brand ambassadors—followed by assistants running alongside and a group of tall bodyguards in black suits and sunglasses escorting them to the lounge.

Many fans had gathered along the way, mostly young girls holding up light boards and handmade banners. As the traffic idols passed by, screams erupted.

Several celebrities were invited to this event, but the main attraction was a popular boy group called Honor. Throughout the event, the hosts kept cueing those four boys, while the others were just supporting acts.

Leaning against the wall, Meng Shengsheng stared blankly at a strikingly handsome man on stage.

Though his face was unfamiliar, she felt an inexplicable familiarity.

Since her transmigration, she had purposefully kept busy, running around doing odd jobs and part-time work. Life was hectic and exhausting, but it kept her from dwelling on the past or thinking about him.

Page 3/3

But the moment she saw that man today, the familiarity was so intense it almost brought tears.

Her rational mind told her it was impossible—they’d already returned, and Wang Chuanze wasn’t from this timeline. Their fate had ended in the last life... Emotions like these were beyond control. Still, she wanted to get closer, to see more—maybe a miracle could happen.

Meng Shengsheng watched the unusually conspicuous man intently as he smiled and nodded throughout, occasionally praising the product according to the script, urging customers to buy more...

Not only her but many in the audience noticed the flawless face and figure of this beauty and began whispering, asking who he was.

Only Meng Shengsheng noticed his little quirks: though he appeared serious listening to the host’s cues, he was daydreaming; after standing a while, his legs twitched—not from fatigue but discomfort in his flashy clothes; every couple of minutes, he would tilt his head slightly—a subtle gesture likely due to unfamiliarity with the hair gel and light makeup.

The more she observed, the more familiar he seemed. Her heart raced wildly, her breath quickened like a startled gazelle running through her veins.

She observed discreetly a while longer before turning to chat with a young mall staffer she had just met.

“Hello, your lipstick shade is beautiful; it suits you well.”

The girl’s eyes shifted from the stage to Meng Shengsheng, and she smiled. “Want the link? It’s DIOR 720, a bit matte, feels nice to wear.”

They chatted for a bit, and as they warmed up to each other, Meng Shengsheng subtly steered the conversation toward the star on stage.

Most young girls were fans, and coincidentally, this girl liked some idols from Honor too. Thinking Meng Shengsheng was a fan, she let her guard down.

After a while, Meng Shengsheng learned that there was a staff entrance leading backstage.

While she was pondering how to sneak in, the event ended unnoticed by her. On stage, the host began thanking everyone and invited the artists off stage.

Xiong Yueyue hurried to the stage entrance to pick up Wang Chuanze.

“Perfect timing,” Xiong Yueyue said. “Let’s go backstage to rest a bit. I heard the company’s Greater China brand PR director will come later. We can wait and maybe get some exposure.”

Wang Chuanze had no interest in waiting or mingling. He just wanted to leave quickly.

“No meeting. Book a flight. Back to the capital.”

“Wait, wait, slow down,” Xiong Yueyue interjected hurriedly. “Meeting them won’t hurt... The ticket’s booked for tonight. Tomorrow night, Chenxing Entertainment has a banquet. The prince will be there, and we must attend.”

Noticing Wang Chuanze’s gaze, Xiong Yueyue changed the subject. He didn’t know why, but Wang Chuanze seemed like a different person now. One glance from him was enough to make Xiong Yueyue too intimidated to breathe loudly.

Wang Chuanze thought for a few seconds, then said flatly, “I don’t have any Chenxing projects lately.”

Xiong Yueyue wished he could knock some sense into him, wondering if the hospital stay had left him dazed.

“Not now doesn’t mean never. Chenxing is one of the top old entertainment companies in Jing City. They hold so many resources—just a little leak and they can turn you into a top star in our circle. You’re a grown man; how can you not see this?”
