Chapter 6: What Kind of Monsters and Freaks Are These?
(Page 1/3)
Early in the morning, the chat channel was bustling again.
However, the topic of discussion wasn't what everyone planned to do today, but rather Player 953.
【Where's 953? No way, he actually went out last night?】
【Who knows? He kept insisting he knew martial arts and wanted to go out to kill monsters in the middle of the night.】
【This game is so annoying, we can't even add friends, or I would've asked him myself.】
【Hmm, he’s stubborn. Everyone said not to go out. Don’t tell me he’s dead.】
【So many people are talking about him, yet he won’t even come out to say a word. I think he’s in serious trouble.】
【Is there really such an idiot? I bet 953 never even left; he was just bluffing.】
Going out at night?
There are people everywhere who enjoy deliberately challenging the rules.
The discussion had been going on for so long, and yet 953 hadn't said a single word.
Either he was doing it on purpose, or...
Ning Yun leaned towards the conclusion that he was likely dead.
After all, someone who makes such bold claims on a chat channel tends to have a flashy personality and craves attention.
Now that everyone was discussing him, as long as he was still alive, he would surely be unable to resist stepping in to speak, regardless of whether he had actually gone out at night or not.
But given that he hadn't appeared after so much talk, it was highly probable that he had met a grim fate.
Ning Yun couldn't understand people who deliberately broke rules to seek thrills.
However, she had another question.
Are they here in their physical bodies, or has their consciousness been projected into the game?
If they had entered the game in their physical bodies, then they must have suddenly disappeared from Blue Star.
Wouldn't that cause chaos?
Unless, the number of players participating in this closed beta was very small.
Ning Yun had noticed earlier that everyone had a serial number, the highest being 999.
She ventured a guess: perhaps only these few people were participating in the beta, so as not to cause a massive panic.
She just didn't know if she would ever have the chance to go home again.
She still had so many regrets; at the very least, she needed to say goodbye to her family.
Thinking of her family made Ning Yun’s heart heavy, but she couldn't allow these emotions to consume her.
Living well, surviving—that was more important than anything else right now!
After eating two rice balls, Ning Yun finished off the rest of the mulberries.
It must be said, the taste was exactly the same as those on Blue Star—perfectly ripe.
Though, having her hands and mouth stained black was a bit strange.
After sitting for about ten minutes, she began to warm up.
Today was another busy day. As soon as 8 o'clock hit, the chat channel immediately went quiet.
Ning Yun rushed out of the house and made her way to the small river.
She washed her hands and face, then cupped her hands to take a drink.

It was sweet and refreshing, far better than she had expected.
She took out the two mineral water bottles from her backpack and refilled them.
As long as this little river remained, she wouldn't run out of water.
Ning Yun pulled out her dagger, ready to begin her quest for treasure chests today!
Based on yesterday's experience, common treasure chests were fairly easy to spot.
However, the terrain around Ning Yun was complex, with dense shrubbery that made it easy to lose visibility.
Today, Ning Yun got off to a flying start; after walking for only a few minutes, she spotted a chest.
【Ding! Congratulations on triggering your talent: 100% Critical Hit!】
【Congratulations on obtaining 2 ceramic bowls and 4 jin of rice.】
It was actually rice—this was a staple food!
If she could find a pot and a lighter, she could cook inside her house.
Last night, she had wanted a kitchen more than anything.
At the very least, it would help pass the time.
Heaven knows how she was supposed to make it from 6 o'clock to 10 o'clock without a phone, computer, or television.
The weather today remained sunny and calm.
Unlike the anxiety she felt yesterday, Ning Yun now calmly accepted the facts and stopped worrying about things that hadn't happened yet.
Finding chests, gathering supplies, and striving to survive—that was her goal.
And today, the god of luck was exceptionally kind to Ning Yun.
Less than half an hour later, she found another chest.
Upon opening it, she triggered her talent once again.
【Congratulations on obtaining 2 lighters and 6 bananas.】
Bananas were great for replenishing energy. She tucked 5 into her backpack and took one out, peeled it, and ate it.
It wasn't even 9 o'clock yet, and she had already found two chests.
She should be able to meet the goal she set for herself today.
Holding the dagger in her right hand and a tree branch in her left, Ning Yun walked along, clearing her own path just as she had yesterday.
Only, the tracks she had made yesterday had completely vanished.
The forest was deathly silent, so Ning Yun decided to sing to bolster her courage.
"The white dragon horse, hooves pointed west..."
"...carrying the Tang Monk, followed by three disciples."
...
"Whatever demons or ghosts, whatever beauties in painted skins,"
"Whatever mountains of blades or seas of fire,"
(Page 2/3)
(Page 3/3)
"Whatever traps or schemes."
With the Great Sage cheering her on, she didn't seem so afraid anymore.
Suddenly, a white shadow darted out from beside her feet, giving Ning Yun a huge fright!
"Oh, mother!"
She quickly retreated two steps, gripping her dagger tightly. Thinking of the bandages in her backpack, she gritted her teeth and summoned her courage, following the flattened grass for a dozen meters or so.
Only then did she clearly see that it seemed to be a rabbit.
But could a rabbit really grow this large and run this fast?
It moved like lightning, darting away in an instant.
She bent down slightly, picked up a stone, weighed it, and threw it with force.
With a "whoosh," it hit the rabbit squarely.
Fortunately, its health wasn't high—only 200.
Above its head, three words appeared: "Short-Toothed Rabbit."
Looking at the name, it didn't seem like a species from Blue Star; it was likely a mutated rabbit from the game.
With a rabbit this big, there must be a lot of meat on it.
Ning Yun instinctively swallowed, but forced herself to stop. She didn't have any cookware, so even with the meat, she couldn't eat it.
The Short-Toothed Rabbit was a bit dazed after being hit by the stone.
But it didn't seem very smart; upon seeing Ning Yun, it didn't run away, but stayed where it was, staring at her.
Ning Yun thought about her house—it was far too quiet. Maybe she could catch it and keep it for now.
Once she had cookware and could start a fire, she could kill it then.
With that thought, Ning Yun slowly moved two steps forward, but for some reason, the Short-Toothed Rabbit suddenly changed direction and darted away.
Ning Yun instinctively followed, circling around a small grove and crossing the river.
Perhaps because Ning Yun kept a small distance, the rabbit's speed gradually slowed down.
It leisurely ate a few mouthfuls of grass, looked left and right, and ran a small circle around the area.
Finally, with a burst of speed, it dove behind a large tree.
Ning Yun rushed after it, only to find it had vanished.
It seemed that this must be its lair.
The trees here were even thicker, making it hard for sunlight to penetrate, and as a result, the visibility was quite dim.
Because of this, she could easily spot anything on the ground that had a slight reflection.
Just like now, a bronze treasure chest sat quietly on the ground.
If she hadn't followed the Short-Toothed Rabbit here, she probably wouldn't have found this place even if she had spent the entire morning searching.
She opened the chest, and the familiar system notification rang out.
【Ding! Congratulations on triggering your talent: 100% Critical Hit!】
【Congratulations on obtaining 2 silk quilts and 2 backpack expansion vouchers.】
