Chapter 119: Not Being a Third Wheel
Seeing them glare angrily at her, Weiwei Xu showed no hint of remorse; instead, her eyes filled with tears as she looked at them.
But the others were not buying it and simply confronted her, effectively tearing off the façade.
———
After leaving the restaurant, Zehuai Gu suddenly remembered something and asked Jiu Wen, “You weren’t full just now, were you? Come on, I’ll take you out for dinner.”
Before Wen could respond, she heard Mengxia Shen calling her.
“Hey, Xiaxia, you’re out too?”
“Yeah, I couldn’t eat inside anymore, so I figured I’d eat out myself. Now that Weiwei Xu can no longer act arrogantly, I doubt those few in the private room she used to manipulate will easily let her off.”
That group referred to classmates whom Weiwei Xu had used.
Wen had no interest in what happened to Weiwei afterward and hadn’t planned to stay in contact. Though this was a complete falling out, it cost her nothing—as long as Xu didn’t bother her or try to use Zehuai against her anymore.
This reunion was both Wen’s first and last.
She hadn’t wanted to spoil the atmosphere at such a gathering, but unfortunately, Weiwei had insisted on provoking her.
Still, it was finally over.
Recalling what Mengxia had said, Wen asked, “Xiaxia, do you want to join us for dinner?”
———
Mengxia Shen glanced at Zehuai Gu and shook her head. “No, no. You two lovebirds have your meal together—I won’t be a third wheel.”
With that, she said goodbye to Wen and went to the underground garage to drive away.
Wen smiled helplessly.
She remembered that the food earlier had been quite good. Tugging on Zehuai’s hand, she pointed back inside. “I want to eat here again.”
Zehuai smiled and led her into a small private room.
After dinner, the two returned straight to their apartment.
Having been apart for several days, the couple’s chemistry ignited instantly, and it was only around two in the morning that they finally fell asleep.
The next day, Zehuai woke naturally to find Wen still fast asleep in his arms.
Watching her peaceful face, his eyes softened with a tenderness he hadn’t realized before.
Wen soon awoke, yawning and turning over, intending to sleep a while longer.
Even with her back turned, Zehuai tightened his arms, holding her close.
Wen had long told him it wasn’t comfortable to sleep like that, but he wouldn’t listen and did as he pleased. She went along with it.
Recalling the moments from the night before, Wen felt reluctant to pay him any attention and gently shifted away.
———
“Jiu Jiu, you actually don’t want me to hold you!” Zehuai complained, nuzzling against her shoulder.
“To avoid any early morning sparks flying, I think it’s better if we keep some distance,” Wen said seriously, though she was teasing.
Zehuai didn’t believe her and asked innocently, “Is it because of last night...? But you weren’t like this at first.”
At the start, you clearly liked it.
Wen refused to argue. “I just don’t like it anymore, and you never listen to me.”
Zehuai, ever attentive, carried Wen to the bathroom to freshen up, then to the kitchen. It took some effort, but he managed to coax her into a better mood.
He enjoyed it all, smiling brightly as he chatted with her afterward.
Wen wasn’t truly upset; this episode only revealed more of Zehuai’s patience with her.
She didn’t intend to throw tantrums over everything—sometimes she just couldn’t help it—but Zehuai was unconditionally tolerant.
Thinking of this, a new idea formed in Wen’s heart.
