Chapter 131: The Dream Company
The group chat erupted in a fresh wave of commotion, but Gu Zehuai said nothing more.
He pulled Wen Jiu onto his lap. "Are you hungry? I’ll have Chen Yi bring up some food."
Wen Jiu nodded. She hadn't eaten since last night and was indeed feeling a bit famished. Gu Zehuai placed an internal call to Chen Yi, giving his instructions before wrapping his arms tightly around Wen Jiu again. He gently rubbed her waist and asked, "Are you tired?"
Though her waist still ached, she stubbornly replied, "Not at all."
Gu Zehuai chuckled, carried her to the sofa, and set her down to prepare for lunch. Chen Yi arrived, placed the packaged meal on the table, and promptly left. They finished their meal in quiet comfort, and after resting for a short while, Gu Zehuai led her to the lounge for a nap.
Wen Jiu wanted to say that she had only just woken up and wasn't sleepy, but seeing the faint look of exhaustion in Gu Zehuai’s eyes, she followed him into the lounge regardless.
"I told you to show some restraint, but you wouldn't listen. Now you know what it feels like to be tired, don't you?"
Gu Zehuai, not knowing how to refute this, gave an awkward cough. "Jiujiu, I'm tired from working!"
Wen Jiu offered a perfunctory agreement. Seeing through her, Gu Zehuai pulled her onto the bed. "Jiujiu, are you doubting me?"
Seeing that he looked ready to prove his point, Wen Jiu hurriedly begged for mercy. "No, no, no! I believe you!"
Gu Zehuai then pulled her into his arms to sleep. In the warmth of the room, Wen Jiu soon drifted off as well. When she woke again, Gu Zehuai was back at his desk, busy with documents. She checked her phone and saw a reply from Shen Mengxia.
[Jiujiu, it’s hard to explain in a few words. Let’s talk when we meet. We’re doing quite well right now.]
The message ended with a shy emoji. Relieved by her response, Wen Jiu decided not to disturb Gu Zehuai while he worked and spent the time on her phone instead.
It was past three o'clock when she received a call.
"Hello, is this Ms. Wen Jiu? The food you ordered is downstairs. Which floor should I bring it to?"
Wen Jiu told the delivery person to leave it at the front desk and arranged for a few others to pick up their share. She mentioned to Gu Zehuai that she had ordered afternoon tea for the staff and that it had arrived. He nodded and instructed Chen Yi to handle the distribution.
"The CEO's wife is quite generous," Gu Zehuai said, pinching her cheek. He took out his wallet and handed all his cards to her. "These are my salary cards. From now on, I'll have to rely on my wife to support me."
Wen Jiu didn't take them, stating plainly, "I don't need your cards; I can support you just fine."
Gu Zehuai raised an eyebrow but didn't insist; he trusted her capabilities. Since there were so many employees at the Gu Group headquarters, it was impossible for everyone to get a portion of the tea. Gu Zehuai ordered Chen Yi to have department managers place new orders for anyone who missed out, promising to reimburse the costs.
Chen Yi thought to himself that the CEO and his wife were cut from the same cloth—both incredibly generous.
The employees were naturally overjoyed, posting photos on their social media. Some even posted on Weibo, tagging the company location, which the official company account then liked. This brought a small wave of buzz to both the company and its employees.
The official account even liked some of the netizens' comments.
[Ahhhhh, what kind of heavenly company is this? The employees are so lucky!]
The original poster replied: [Yes, the benefits and treatment are great! Plus, these were ordered for us by the future CEO's wife.]
...
Xu Xinying, who followed the Gu Group’s official account, saw the likes and comments and gripped her phone tightly.
