Extra Chapter Two: Pregnancy (2)

Wen Jiu smiled and pressed a kiss to Gu Zehuai’s lips, then said, "Let's head back to the old family estate."

"Alright."

Although Grandmother Gu was not as sprightly as she had been two years ago, she was still in good health.

Before noon, she heard the sound of a car. Not knowing who had returned, she went out to greet them, filled with anticipation. Seeing that it was the couple, Gu Zehuai and Wen Jiu, her smile broadened.

"Jiujiu, A-Huai, you're back! Come, come, come inside and have a seat. Jiujiu, are you tired from work? Are you off today?"

After greeting her with a smile, Wen Jiu took Grandmother Gu’s hand and led her into the living room.

"Grandma, we didn't go to work today; we just made a trip to the hospital," Wen Jiu replied to her earlier question.

"The hospital? Jiujiu, is something wrong?! Did something happen, or is it A-Huai?" Grandmother Gu was very anxious, immediately reaching out to check if either of them had any injuries.

Wen Jiu held Grandmother Gu’s hands to reassure her, "Grandma, we’re fine. You’re going to be a great-grandmother."

At that moment, Gu Zehuai handed the ultrasound report to Grandmother Gu.

Although Grandmother Gu was farsighted, it did not hinder her ability to see the image on the report clearly. Even though it was blurry, she had the experience to recognize it immediately. She looked at the ultrasound, then at Wen Jiu, and once the realization hit her, she stood up, trembling with excitement.

"Jiujiu, is this real? I am so happy!"

Grandmother Gu asked if Wen Jiu was feeling any discomfort and specifically instructed the kitchen to prepare an extra soup. Afterward, she began sharing her own experiences with Gu Zehuai, emphasizing that he must be careful and take good care of Wen Jiu.

Grandmother Gu had previously suggested that the couple hire a nanny or have one transferred from the main house, but the couple had politely declined. Both enjoyed a simple lifestyle, and since Gu Zehuai took care of the cooking and a cleaning service visited their villa regularly, they felt things were perfect as they were.

Understanding their wishes, Grandmother Gu stopped bringing it up and instead focused on relaying all the necessary precautions to Gu Zehuai.

Mother Gu had gone to the company with Father Gu that morning and would not return until after work in the afternoon. Gu Yulin was already in elementary school and was picked up once a day, returning only after school ended. Thus, the three of them enjoyed lunch together.

As soon as lunch was over, Wen Jiu felt drowsy. She told Grandmother Gu she was going upstairs.

"Grandma, would you like to rest as well? Take a nap. Let me help you to your room."

Grandmother Gu was also feeling sleepy; although she rarely managed to fall asleep during the day, she was accustomed to lying down for a while.

Gu Zehuai stepped forward, "Jiujiu, let me help Grandma inside. You just sit here and wait for me."

"Yes, Jiujiu, you should get some extra rest."

After settling Grandmother Gu into her room, Gu Zehuai returned to the living room and went upstairs with Wen Jiu.

Wen Jiu was yawning repeatedly while changing into her pajamas. Gu Zehuai noticed this and stepped forward to take the clothes she had changed out of, asking, "Are you very tired?"

Wen Jiu nodded and smiled, "Yes. No wonder I’ve been so sleepy lately. It turns out there’s a little baby."

As she spoke, Wen Jiu placed her hand on her lower abdomen, still finding it hard to believe that a new life was growing inside her—a child belonging to her and Gu Zehuai.

Back at the hospital and the living room that morning, Gu Zehuai hadn't been able to get close to her belly. Seeing her hand resting there now, his own hand felt an urge to follow.

Gu Zehuai gently placed his hand on her abdomen, terrified that even the slightest pressure might cause her pain. He then lowered his head and leaned his cheek against her belly.

Wen Jiu stroked Gu Zehuai’s hair, "The baby is still so small right now; they can't hear anything yet."

Gu Zehuai did not move his head, instead whispering softly, "Baby, you must be good inside Mommy’s tummy. Don’t be too naughty, okay? Otherwise, when you’re born, Daddy will have to spank your little bottom. Well, if you’re a little princess, Daddy won't have the heart to do that."

Wen Jiu was amused by his words. Gu Zehuai sat up and said childishly, "That’s a secret pact between the baby and me. They will definitely be obedient."

After all the excitement, Wen Jiu felt even drowsier. Gu Zehuai tucked her in and coaxed her to sleep. Because of her recent tendency to sleepiness, Wen Jiu fell asleep within two minutes of closing her eyes.

Watching her sleeping face, Gu Zehuai kissed her forehead and lay down beside her.
