Extra Chapter Three: Little Wen Can (4)
The car quickly arrived at the underground parking lot of Gu Corporation, where Gu Zehuai personally came down to greet the mother and daughter.
After the family of three boarded the private elevator, some employees in the company finally dared to pull out their phones and slack off.
There were also more outgoing employees who greeted the trio in the lobby.
“Good day, President Gu, and madam,” they said, waving to the wide-eyed, slightly confused little Wen Can, praising, “So adorable!”
Gu Zehuai smiled proudly—of course, his daughter was the most adorable of all!
In the Gu Corporation employee chat group, lively discussions about little Wen Can broke out again after a long silence, all praising how cute she was.
Naturally, Gu Zehuai and Wen Jiu were unaware of these conversations as they took their baby upstairs.
Gu Zehuai had almost finished his work; the morning meeting had already been held, and now he only needed to sign some documents Chen Yi had delivered.
Though it wasn’t her first time here, little Wen Can seemed fascinated by everything in the office and struggled to get down from Gu Zehuai’s arms.
Understanding that she had just learned to walk and couldn’t sit still, Gu Zehuai relented, following behind her, hands poised to catch her if she fell.
Wen Jiu, seated on the sofa, witnessed this tender scene and couldn’t help but raise her phone to capture a short video.
Since having their daughter, Wen Jiu, who already loved taking photos, had become even more eager to record every moment spontaneously. Now, her phone’s gallery was filled mostly with pictures and videos of their daughter.
Meanwhile, most of the photos in Gu Zehuai’s phone album were of her.
Gu Zehuai’s phone had always been transparent to Wen Jiu; there were no secrets, and she only occasionally opened it out of curiosity. She often found that the majority of the photos were of herself—many she didn’t even know when he had taken.
It was the same now; Gu Zehuai’s phone was in Wen Jiu’s hands, but she had never opened his WeChat. Unlocking the phone revealed their chat window, and since Gu Zehuai had just finished a video call and hadn’t exited, it was still open.
To Wen Jiu’s surprise, the chat background picture was a selfie of herself!
She pondered for a while before recalling that selfie.
“Gu Zehuai!” Wen Jiu called his full name directly, her tone unreadable.
Hearing his full name, Gu Zehuai’s body stiffened immediately. What was wrong with Jiu Jiu? Had he done something wrong?
Wen Jiu only called him like this when she was angry at him, so it was natural for Gu Zehuai to be nervous.
Seeing that Wen Jiu was holding his phone, Gu Zehuai picked up their daughter and approached the sofa cautiously, asking, “Wife, what’s wrong?”
Wen Jiu turned the screen toward him and said, “So you’ve been scheming over me for quite a long time, huh?”
When that photo was taken, their relationship wasn’t very close yet, but Gu Zehuai had kept it—obviously, he had been plotting something all along.
Gu Zehuai glanced at the picture and finally relaxed. “You scared me; I thought I’d done something wrong.”
Now reassured, Gu Zehuai wasn’t afraid of Wen Jiu anymore. Holding their daughter, he sat beside Wen Jiu. “Wife, isn’t it beautiful? I couldn’t resist saving it then, and it still looks great now, right?”
Wen Jiu gave him a sharp look. “Smooth talker.” But she didn’t say more, after all, back then they hadn’t quite crossed that line yet.
Gu Zehuai continued playing with their daughter, the three of them blissfully happy together.
Wen Jiu had arrived at the company near closing time, and soon it was time to leave. Gu Zehuai, full of energy, held their daughter and took Wen Jiu’s hand as they walked toward the parking lot.
This time, he unusually called the driver, placed little Wen Can in the safety seat, and sat on either side of their daughter with Wen Jiu.
Suddenly, Wen Jiu remembered, “Mom and Dad asked us to come to the Wen residence for dinner tonight.”
Gu Zehuai nodded and told the driver the destination, then turned to their daughter and said, “Sweetheart, we’re going to Grandpa and Grandma’s house.”
Little Wen Can seemed to understand, babbling happily and clapping her hands, clearly excited and approving.
The couple looked at their joyfully dancing daughter with matching tenderness.
They probably knew why she was so thrilled—her grandfather always took little Wen Can for walks nearby, and the little one found it all very new and exciting, getting thrilled every time.
