Chapter 47: Supervision
After giving an OK gesture, Wen Jiu went to wash up. Since it was still early, she sat down at her vanity and started applying makeup.
Normally, Wen Jiu was quite lazy and would only put on some lipstick before heading out to work. However, her skin was naturally flawless, so even without makeup, she always looked radiant.
Today she applied light makeup, just enough to highlight her best features.
By the time she was ready to leave, it was already half past eleven. Wen Jiu sent a message to Gu Zehuai and headed out.
Gu Zehuai, having estimated the time, instructed Chen Yi to go downstairs to meet Wen Jiu.
Chen Yi had met Wen Jiu before and guessed she was the same person who had eaten with Gu Zehuai in the cafeteria last time.
He waited respectfully by the entrance, and when Wen Jiu arrived, he hurried forward to escort her upstairs.
Along the way, they attracted many curious and inquisitive glances, but Wen Jiu paid them no mind. Even though her relationship with Gu Zehuai wasn’t official yet, there was nothing unusual about them being seen together as friends.
They took the elevator to the top floor, where Chen Yi led Wen Jiu to Gu Zehuai’s private office, as instructed.
Upon entering, she found the office empty. Chen Yi explained, “Miss Wen, Mr. Gu is in a meeting. He should be about ten more minutes. Please wait here.” He also asked what beverage she would like.
Wen Jiu only asked for a glass of hot water.
She sat on the sofa and played on her phone. Before long, Gu Zehuai pushed the door open and walked in.
The moment he saw Wen Jiu, the exhaustion in his eyes instantly vanished, replaced by genuine delight.
Wen Jiu noticed this, and couldn’t hide her concern. “You must be tired. You were up so late last night. You can’t keep doing this—I’ll make sure to keep an eye on you!”
Gu Zehuai’s smile was especially bright. “Alright, Jiujiu, if you say so. From now on, you’ll supervise me.”
Wen Jiu felt as if he’d somehow turned the tables on her. He looked altogether too pleased with himself.
After the playful exchange, Gu Zehuai quickly took Wen Jiu out for lunch, worried she might be hungry after skipping breakfast.
In truth, Wen Jiu didn’t feel hungry at all, and even had little appetite, but she didn’t mention it and followed Gu Zehuai out.
Gu Zehuai chose a homestyle restaurant near the company. Having dined together a few times, he already had a good sense of her tastes and ordered for both of them.
Wen Jiu found this attention to detail endearing and secretly awarded him a few extra points in her heart.
Though she hadn’t felt hungry at first, Wen Jiu couldn’t resist picking up her chopsticks when faced with the colorful, aromatic, and delicious dishes before her. She had to admit, the food was excellent—no wonder the place was always busy.
Wen Jiu muttered under her breath, “If I keep eating like this every day, I’ll gain weight in no time. After this meal, I really have to start dieting!”
Gu Zehuai looked puzzled. “Shouldn’t you be eating more? You’re already so slim.”
Wen Jiu assumed he was just trying to flatter her, but Gu Zehuai was completely sincere.
After the meal, Wen Jiu insisted that Gu Zehuai take a nap in the office lounge. Watching Chen Yi escort Wen Jiu home, Gu Zehuai obediently went to rest.
Wen Jiu didn’t go straight home. Instead, she stopped by the supermarket to buy some fruit before heading upstairs.
Evening came quickly. After work, Gu Zehuai first went to knock on Wen Jiu’s door.
Wen Jiu checked through the peephole and, seeing it was Gu Zehuai, opened the door.
She saw him carrying two grocery bags filled with meat and vegetables and instinctively reached out to help.
But Gu Zehuai didn’t let her take anything. “Jiujiu, come have dinner at my place later. You can hang out at home for a bit—I’ll call you when it’s ready.”
