Chapter 55: Confession
The two of them boarded the Ferris wheel together.
As the Ferris wheel rose higher and higher, it finally reached its peak. Wen Jiu gazed out the window, overlooking the entire city—the night view was breathtakingly beautiful.
At that moment, Gu Zehuai produced a bouquet of pink roses from somewhere, holding them out to Wen Jiu with a hint of bashfulness.
Wen Jiu turned her head, only to see Gu Zehuai cradling the flowers and looking at her.
In his eyes, there was no one but her.
Then, Gu Zehuai took out a ring and knelt on one knee.
“Jiujiu, will you be my girlfriend? Will you be with me?”
With those words, he raised the ring, offering the large bouquet of flowers with his other arm before Wen Jiu.
Wen Jiu quickly realized what was happening and, without much hesitation, replied, “Yes, Gu Zehuai, I accept.”
Hearing her affirmation, Gu Zehuai was so excited that his hands trembled as he slipped the ring onto the middle finger of Wen Jiu’s right hand.
Wen Jiu took the bouquet, and though she said nothing, her heart was brimming with delight.
Unable to contain her excitement, Wen Jiu held up her hand, admiring it from every angle for a long time before shifting her gaze to the flowers in her arms.
The pink roses signified a beautiful first love and the voice of love’s confession.
There was no denying that Gu Zehuai truly understood her.
Taking a bold step, Gu Zehuai reached for Wen Jiu’s hand, and soon their fingers were entwined.
After leaving the Ferris wheel, Gu Zehuai led Wen Jiu up to a rooftop.
Wen Jiu looked at the beautifully decorated rooftop, turned to Gu Zehuai, and seemed unable to believe that he had prepared all this.
“Thank you, Gu Zehuai. I really love it.”
Gu Zehuai, flustered by her praise, awkwardly rubbed his neck to ease his shyness.
Soon, fireworks blossomed in the sky—some in the shape of hearts, some with Wen Jiu’s initials, and even some spelling out “I like you” in both Chinese and English.
Clearly, this was also Gu Zehuai’s doing.
Amidst the sound of fireworks, Gu Zehuai gazed into Wen Jiu’s eyes and spoke solemnly, “Jiujiu, being with you makes me truly happy. From now on, I’ll do my best to become a worthy boyfriend.”
Wen Jiu looked into his eyes just as earnestly and nodded.
“Alright, same here. I’ll learn to be a worthy girlfriend.”
With that, Wen Jiu placed the flowers on the little table beside her. Without waiting for Gu Zehuai to react, she stood on tiptoe and threw herself into his arms.
“I’ve wanted to do this for so long. Now that you’re my boyfriend, hugging you isn’t too much, is it?”
Gu Zehuai laughed so hard that his chest shook, hinting to Wen Jiu, “It doesn’t have to stop at hugging—you can do anything else you want to do.”
Wen Jiu pretended not to understand and continued to nestle in his arms.
Neither wanted to let go, but in the end, it was Gu Zehuai who awkwardly loosened his hold a little.
Wen Jiu was puzzled, but Gu Zehuai’s face had flushed crimson, the color spreading all the way to his neck.
“Jiujiu, don’t move around like that. Maybe we should go back now,” he said, coughing nervously.
Suddenly realizing something, Wen Jiu immediately let go.
Both of them felt a bit awkward.
Wen Jiu nodded hastily, scooped up the flowers from the table, and hurried ahead. “Let’s go back. It’s getting late.”
After calming himself, Gu Zehuai quickly caught up with Wen Jiu.
On the way, Wen Jiu wasn’t sure if she should say something to ease the tension. Gu Zehuai, on the other hand, had already regained his composure.
Before long, they arrived at her door. The two new lovers were reluctant to part so soon.
Suddenly, Wen Jiu suggested, “Why don’t you come in for a while? You’ve never been inside my place.”
Gu Zehuai obediently followed her in.
Wen Jiu’s apartment was much the same as Gu Zehuai’s, though he had remodeled his—combining two rooms into a large master bedroom.
Wen Jiu poured two cups of warm water, handing one to Gu Zehuai.
Having just returned from outside, both of them still carried a trace of the night’s chill.
