Chapter 69: Salvation

Gu Zehuai heard the commotion and forced himself to fight off the effects of the drug, opening his eyes and seeing clearly the person before him.

Xu Xinying looked excited, her eyes shining as she gazed at Gu Zehuai.

But she made no further move; she was waiting for the drug to take full effect.

Watching Gu Zehuai repeatedly tugging at his collar, Xu Xinying spoke to herself, "Ahuai, I know you'll hate me for this, but it doesn't matter. If I can't have your heart, then I'll have you. All thanks to him."

Forcing himself to move, Gu Zehuai discreetly pressed the watch on his right wrist while Xu Xinying nursed the back of her head where she'd been hurt.

After pressing the watch, Gu Zehuai finally exhaled in relief, knowing he would be saved.

Xu Xinying, unaware, saw Gu Zehuai stop resisting and thought he was giving in, delighted. "Ahuai, I knew you liked me."

As Xu Xinying prepared to approach him again, a furious knocking sounded at the door.

In the car, the family doctor, seeing Gu Zehuai’s condition, administered a sedative before taking him to the hospital.

Soon after, Gu Zeqian, who happened to be at home for the weekend, arrived.

"Find out exactly where Zehuai was just now and what happened."

Once Gu Zehuai fell asleep, Gu Zeqian instructed the nurse to call him as soon as Zehuai woke up, then hurried home and called their father downstairs to tell him what had happened.

Gu Zehuai didn't regain consciousness until noon the next day. He felt unwell all over, but he hadn't forgotten what had taken place the night before.

When Gu Zeqian heard that Gu Zehuai was awake, he quickly came to the ward.
