Wujue and Tel left the building and began to search the city, which was in a truly wretched state of ruin.

Wherever the eye could see, there were only shattered buildings and corpses strewn across the ground.

Wujue took a map of the city and searched for any supermarkets or shops that might still be useful, but unfortunately, it was all in vain. The place had been ravaged so badly by the zombies that it was a wretched sight to behold.

Wujue located the ruins of several supermarkets one after another, but they were either picked clean or destroyed beyond use by the zombies. It seemed that before their arrival, many survivors had held out here for a long time. Sadly, they could not endure until the end, inevitably falling prey to the zombies and meeting a tragic demise.

Disappointed, Wujue searched for a new target when he suddenly heard a faint rustling behind a collapsed wall.

Was it a zombie, or some mutated creature?

Raising his guard, Wujue drew his pistol and circled around. A strong intuition told him that this time, he was encountering a familiar target.

Soon, he reached the other side of the wall, where to his surprise, he saw a figure huddled against it, blood dripping steadily onto the ground.

It was actually an injured human. Wujue pointed his gun at her without making a sound, for he saw that she was also holding a dagger, readying it before her chest.

A pair of cold eyes stared back at him. Beneath the black sportswear, the delicate curves of a woman were clearly visible. It was the female assassin they had encountered before.

"It's you," Wujue said flatly. "What happened? Injured?"

Seeing him, the female assassin couldn't help but laugh self-deprecatingly. "What an ill-fated encounter, to be found by you."

Wujue glanced down. She had a gunshot wound on her leg. Though it wasn't severe, in an environment like this, without the means to extract the bullet and treat it, it would quickly become a major problem.

"Don't be nervous. I can't say I like you, but I have no desire to kill you either." Wujue lowered his gun. "I only want to confirm if you came here with another purpose."

"What purpose could I have?" the female assassin laughed mockingly. "My mission failed. What do you think happens to someone like me?"

Wujue naturally understood the fate of an assassin who failed their mission.

Thus, he said decisively, "In that case, run for your life. I'll pretend I never saw you."

With a swift movement, he leaped back to the other side of the wall and vanished.

He hadn't gone far when he heard a faint thud, as if someone had collapsed. Looking back, he saw the female assassin stumbling on the ground not far away, struggling to drag herself up.

It seemed that in addition to the gunshot wound, she had also suffered internal injuries. Wujue suddenly felt a pang of pity. Moreover, perhaps this was an opportunity to pry more secrets out of her regarding the organization known as Ming.

Turning back immediately, he quickly strode to her side, helped her up, and said, "You had better stop running around. In your state, I doubt you'll last more than a few hours."

Stubbornly, the female assassin bared her dagger and thrust it toward Wujue's chest. "Who asked you to save me?!"

Wujue reached out, caught the blade between his fingers, and twisted his wrist. The powerful force jarred her grip, sending the dagger flying to the ground.

"Stop fooling around at a time like this. Since this poor monk has set his mind on saving you, don't even think of refusing."

With that, he laid her down on an open patch of ground, tore open the fabric around her calf, and pulled a bottle of mineral water from his backpack to wash away the blood and grime. Only then did he pick up her dagger, sterilize it with a lighter, and begin to pare away the necrotic flesh around the wound. His movements were deft and gentle, causing her almost no pain.

The female assassin endured the sharp pain, gritting her teeth, though a hint of approval flickered in her eyes as she looked at Wujue.

Wujue looked up and said, "Bear with me. Now comes the real work."

He suddenly extended his palm, and a cluster of purple energy coalesced in his hand. Instantly, he channeled it into the wound. As the power of sorcery manifested, it swiftly drew the bullet out.

Then, with his other hand, he tapped the acupoints near the wound, instantly easing the pain. Within moments, he altered the flesh and blood there, causing it to rapidly regenerate.

Finally, he tore a strip of cloth from her thigh and wrapped it around the wound a few times, completing the basic bandaging.

"Just lie here for now. If I'm lucky enough to find medical supplies, I'll change your dressing with better medicine. Otherwise, you'll have to rely on your own luck." Wujue pocketed the dagger, laid the female assassin flat on the ground, and turned to leave.

After he had taken four or five steps, she suddenly asked, "Why help me? You didn't have to concern yourself with me at all."

Without turning back, Wujue replied coldly, "I never abandon a living soul, especially a woman."

Without another word, he continued his search ahead.

Considering there was a helpless woman nearby, Wujue did not venture too far to avoid leaving her vulnerable to zombie attacks, choosing instead to search the immediate vicinity. Fortunately, he soon found a pharmacy. Stepping inside, he was surprised to see that despite the scattered shelves, there were still usable medicines that had not been looted.

He immediately took some medicines for emergencies, along with some daily necessities, filling a large bag. Just as he was about to step out, he saw zombies wandering outside the entrance.

Wishing to avoid making too much noise, Wujue did not engage them directly. Instead, he retreated into the pharmacy, barricaded the front door, and turned to look for another way out.

A pharmacy like this ought to have a back door.

After a brief search, Wujue found a locked door behind a pile of shelves. He kicked the lock open and pushed through, only to find himself in an enclosed parking lot. It turned out to be a private garage built for the residential compound where the pharmacy was located. Wujue fumbled around until he found a car, and using his rather unpolished driving skills, he drove away.

Taking a slight detour, he looped back from behind the pharmacy to the place where the female assassin was resting. Before he even arrived, he saw her on the ground, desperately dodging the attacks of two zombies.

Wujue watched her dodge and weave. Although her leg was injured, her reflexes were not slowed in the least. Her struggle with the two zombies revealed an unusual composure.

Such a person was undoubtedly dangerous, and Wujue had to consider the consequences of bringing her into his group.

*I'll save her life, get more information about the Ming organization, and then we'll go our separate ways.*

Wujue quickly made his decision. He got out of the car swiftly and shot both zombies dead. Seeing the ferocious beasts fall before her, the usually calm assassin showed a rare look of shock.

"Your timing is impeccable!" she sighed, collapsing back onto the ground, completely exhausted this time.

Wujue tossed a box of anti-inflammatory pills onto her. "You already owe me two lives. Don't you think you should give me something in return?"

"What do you want?" She didn't get up, merely catching the medicine box and glancing at it. "Do you want me to betray my organization?"

Wujue walked over. "I just want to understand them better. Get up. You don't plan on staying here forever, do you?"

He planned to get her into the car, take her back to the building to settle her in, and then return to the pharmacy to gather more medicine—that was the priority.

The female assassin stubbornly stood up on her own, refusing Wujue's assistance, and limped toward the car. "Don't worry. As long as I can survive, I won't refuse any help, even if it means selling my body. Remember my name: call me Alice."

Reaching the car, she pulled open the door, turned back, and stated her name.

Codename: Alice. The number three assassin of the mysterious organization, Ming.

Wujue nodded, got into the car, and drove back to the building. On the way, regarding Alice's background, Wujue warned her that she had better keep her identity a secret and not try anything with his friends.

"Once your wounds are healed, you are welcome to leave at any time," Wujue said coldly. "Furthermore, if you do anything to displease me along the way, I will throw you out immediately."

Alice nodded. "Don't worry. I once posed as a maid for three whole years. You must have seen my acting skills. I won't disappoint you."

She slumped against the car seat, pretending to be in pain, and pleaded, "Master, could you drive a bit slower? My leg hurts so much!"

Hearing this, Wujue couldn't help but cough. "Are you getting into character already?"

Glancing in the rearview mirror, he saw that Alice really did look like a delicate, pitiful damsel in distress.

Talk about a rapid shift in personality.
