Chapter Ten: The Invading Enemy (Part Two)
His movements were swift, and since the zombies had not yet gathered densely, Wu Jue dodged past them at the fastest speed, rushing into the depths of the airport. When avoidance was impossible, he swung his steel blade, cutting down his adversaries in a single stroke, and continued his sprint forward.
He soon approached the main entrance of the airport, where two hulking zombies blocked his path, snarling and clawing at him. Their grotesque faces were revolting. Wu Jue had long abandoned any thoughts of mercy; hesitation now was out of the question. He leapt three meters high, vaulting over their heads. With two quick slashes, he executed a Bodhi Blade technique, piercing the skulls of both zombies before landing lightly.
As the two zombies fell in succession, Wu Jue pressed forward without pause, blade in hand. But the scene before him shocked him even more. Over a hundred living humans were trapped, surrounded by zombies, struggling desperately amidst cries of despair.
The most horrifying sight: among them, some of their own people were betraying their fellow survivors, pushing them toward the zombies' jaws to be devoured. Someone was shouting angrily, cursing, "You liars, why are you harming your own people? Why did you deceive us?"
This chaos confirmed Wu Jue’s suspicions—so-called government aid was a sham. Someone had sent false signals to lure these people to their deaths.
He searched the crowd for the mastermind and saw, to his astonishment, the policeman who should have been dead, standing alive in the midst, commanding zombies and other people with the instrument Wu Jue had lost.
No doubt, this was no human. Perhaps he was a spy from the Heaven’s Punishment Clan, directing two young men to steal the instrument and silencing witnesses.
Wu Jue charged toward him, intent on capturing the traitor. But several zombies pounced on him. Forced to fight, Wu Jue slashed back, but their numbers were endless. He grabbed a submachine gun and instinctively pulled the trigger.
Bullets roared out, their violent recoil numbing his arm, causing him to lose control and miss several shots. He had not expected such power from firearms; in his memory, even the most formidable hidden weapons could not match this speed or impact.
Zombies struck by bullets dropped immediately, but the rest persisted. The fake policeman, now aware of Wu Jue's presence, used the instrument to direct more zombies at him.
Wu Jue reacted swiftly. In a sudden burst, he jumped seven or eight meters, landing right before the enemy. The MP5 was trained on the man's head, while his steel blade pressed against the man's chest.
"Don't move. Make the zombies stop!" Wu Jue commanded, trying to take control. But the other sneered, "Why should I? You think you can kill me? Foolish human, our Heaven’s Punishment Clan cannot die."
He began to manipulate the instrument, continuing his assault. Wu Jue instinctively pulled the trigger—several shots rang out, bullets piercing the man's skull, while his left hand swung the blade in a circle, cutting down zombies attacking from behind.
Without letting his feet touch the ground, Wu Jue stepped on the instrument, flipped over, and landed. The screen was displaying strange patterns, countless bright points flashing; he wondered how the enemy controlled the zombies.
Wu Jue kicked the corpse to confirm the man was dead, then warily surveyed his surroundings, continuously firing at zombies closing in. He used his headset to contact Xiao Yang, asking how to use the instrument.
Xiao Yang, having heard what was happening, told him the device was likely a remote controller for the zombies. After Wu Jue described the screen, Xiao Yang guided him on how to operate it.
Wu Jue quickly mastered its functions, commanding the zombies to cease their attack and gradually retreat from the airport.
The rescued survivors breathed a collective sigh of relief, gathering together, gazing at the devastation inside. Some collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath; others wept for lost loved ones.
Many approached Wu Jue, expressing their gratitude, even bowing in thanks.
Wu Jue hurriedly returned their gestures, saying, "No need for such courtesy. We must still figure out how to escape from here."
"Escape? Where else can we go?" someone replied in dismay. "We hoped for government rescue, but it was a trap. Where can we run now?"
"Maybe the whole world has already fallen, and the zombies will return. We can’t escape!" Hearing these words of despair, Wu Jue knew it was time to reveal the underground chamber. He motioned for silence and then told them about Xiao Yang’s underground sanctuary and the supplies moved from the supermarket.
He was just about to guide everyone to take shelter there and plan their next moves, when suddenly a sharp pain struck his back, as if something had stung him.
Reaching behind his neck, he pulled out a purple insect, still writhing and emitting a sickening screech, trying to bite his fingers. Furious, Wu Jue threw it to the ground and crushed it underfoot.
Immediately, Huron’s voice echoed in his mind: "This is bad. That’s a Heaven’s Punishment Clan venom bug—they’re trying to control your body..."
Then Wu Jue saw nothing—he collapsed to the ground.
Wu Jue felt himself sinking into endless darkness, surrounded by unfathomable voids.
Huron’s voice kept calling to him, urging him not to succumb to sleep, to fight against the invading virus.
Yet he felt the thing trying to consume him, gnawing at every part of his body, making him gradually lose sense of his own existence.
It was the damned venom bug, undoubtedly crawled out from the dead fake policeman. Huron told him this was the secret weapon of the Heaven’s Punishment Clan.
The venom bug, inheriting the terrifying virus, could tunnel into its target’s body, control their consciousness, and slowly take over their flesh.
That fake policeman had been controlled in this way. These viruses possessed intelligence far beyond those that infected ordinary humans; if Wu Jue were controlled, he would become a second-tier biochemical zombie created by the Heaven’s Punishment Clan.
Externally, the infected would show no mutations, but their minds would be utterly altered, becoming tools controlled by the Heaven’s Punishment Clan.
Because this virus was extremely difficult to cultivate, it was usually deployed in small numbers during planetary invasions, targeting leaders and those with special abilities or status—making it hard to detect.
Huron had learned this from experience; the Divine Warrior Clan had fallen to the same tactic.
Wu Jue now understood this vile virus sought to control him, turning him into a mindless puppet.
How could he allow that?
