Chapter 146: You? You Think You Can Show Us What You’ve Got?
After traveling less than half a mile, Adan and his companions suddenly encountered a car recklessly barreling toward them, directly overturning one of their brothers' vehicles.
Two bodyguards struggled out of the overturned car, cursing loudly about the reckless driver who couldn’t see properly.
Adan frowned and, along with Huilun, stepped out of the car. They saw someone emerge from the opposing vehicle—a man with a prominent scar on his face, clearly Dao Ba Hua, one of Boss Cheng’s enforcers. Adan immediately asked, "Dao Ba Hua, what are you doing? Have you been bitten by a zombie?"
Two of their men quickly grabbed Dao Ba Hua and pushed him forward, but he looked exhausted and said, “What can I do? I came here to report to you. Our boss...”
He then glanced suspiciously at Huilun behind them, as if confused, and asked, “Boss, what happened to you?”
Huilun, recognizing him, already suspected Wu Jue’s involvement. He scowled and retorted, “Dao Ba Hua, what do you think happened to me? All our brothers are dead. I barely escaped. Where were you hiding?”
He strode over, grabbed Dao Ba Hua roughly, and pressed him against the car, lowering his voice to ask, “Did Wu Jue send you? What game are you playing?”
Dao Ba Hua staggered back and said, “Impossible. Boss, you were clearly bitten by zombies. I saw it with my own eyes, and the deputy leader was there too. Unfortunately, the deputy leader...”
Hearing this, Adan felt uneasy. He stepped forward, pointing his gun at Huilun. “Boss Cheng, how do you explain this? Why does Dao Ba Hua say you've been bitten? Are you trying to trick us brothers?”
At once, the other bodyguards drew their pistols, aiming at Huilun.
Huilun turned around, seeing the situation had escalated, and suddenly revealed a ferocious smile. “You bunch of useless fools, consider yourselves lucky you’re not already trapped!”
In a flash, amidst a hail of bullets, his form transformed into a massive bat, soaring into the air.
Dao Ba Hua was terrified and collapsed onto the ground, shouting, “That's right, they’ve mutated—these zombies have mutated!”
Adan frowned and stepped forward, firing repeatedly into the air while pulling Dao Ba Hua up. “What mutation? Explain clearly!”
“Mutation means even humans can’t resist,” Dao Ba Hua said suddenly, producing a small knife from his left palm and stabbing toward Adan’s abdomen.
Normally, Adan’s skill would have allowed him to dodge, but the sudden chaos and Dao Ba Hua’s swift move caught him off guard.
With a sharp “puff,” the knife pierced his lower abdomen. Instinctively, Adan raised his hand to block, almost grabbing the blade. Unexpectedly, a surge of energy erupted from the knife’s tip, piercing directly through his abdomen.
“Despicable!” Adan kicked Dao Ba Hua away, then aimed his pistol at Dao Ba Hua’s forehead. Before he could fire, a massive explosion rocked the area, flipping two cars to the side.
Adan’s bodyguards were thrown aside by the blast. A man appeared in front of them—it was Wu Jue.
Wu Jue had been waiting for this moment. The righteous energy he had injected into Dao Ba Hua was meant to activate during this confrontation, targeting Adan.
Now was the perfect time for Wu Jue to make his move. He stepped forward and said, “Without introductions, I am Wu Jue, leader of the South China gang and brother to Ah Hu. I hear you’re quite the fighter.”
Adan turned to face Wu Jue, who held a pistol aimed at him, sneering coldly. “I didn’t expect you to use such dirty tricks. You’re damnable!”
He raised his hand and fired. Wu Jue didn’t hesitate, returning fire. Their bullets collided midair, sparking brilliantly and stunning everyone present.
Adan shook off Dao Ba Hua and charged at Wu Jue with a flying kick, delivering three rapid strikes in succession. Wu Jue holstered his gun and lunged forward, grabbing Adan’s left foot midair and hurling him aside.
“If you weren’t hurt, you might have pulled off that move. But now? You’re just courting death!”
Adan stumbled but managed to steady himself. He touched the wound on his abdomen, tasted the blood, spat fiercely, then tore off his shirt to reveal his muscular torso. He tied a cloth tightly around his waist and shouted, “Come on then!”
Wu Jue nodded approvingly. “Alright, you’ve got some real grit. Let’s have a proper fight.”
He assumed the stance of the Dalin Temple Fist style, facing Adan off, then suddenly launched himself at him.
Meanwhile, Huilun and Dao Ba Hua engaged in battle with the accompanying bodyguards, quickly overpowering them.
Suddenly, a sniper shot rang out from an unknown direction, knocking Dao Ba Hua to the ground, followed by another shot aimed at Huilun’s back.
Fortunately, Huilun transformed into a giant eagle and dodged, realizing someone was hiding in wait for a surprise attack.
Who could it be? Huilun opened his eagle eyes and scanned the distance. In the jungle, he spotted a figure lying in a tree, firing shots toward them.
Upon closer inspection, Huilun was startled—the figure looked exactly like Adan!
Before he could react, two more shots rang out: one aimed at Huilun’s head, the other at Wu Jue amidst the fight.
Wu Jue was completely unguarded from behind. The timing was perfect for the sniper.
Just as the bullets flew toward Wu Jue, he flickered midair, performing an astonishing lightness skill—walking on water—that no one had ever witnessed.
In a moment’s blur, Wu Jue appeared behind the impostor Adan. With a sharp crack, a bullet struck the figure’s chest, sending him sprawling to the ground.
Wu Jue spun around and fired repeatedly at the fake Adan. “Damn it! Using a body double to impersonate yourself!”
He quickly pursued, with Huilun following close behind.
The fake Adan, hiding in the woods, realized the caliber of his opponents and hastily discarded his weapon, retreating.
Wu Jue knew he couldn’t let him escape or his plan would fail.
Seeing this, Huilun transformed into a soaring dragon and gave chase. Wu Jue turned back to the injured Adan on the ground and smiled. “You’re not the real one. Too bad your master wants you dead.”
Dao Ba Hua also got up, incredulous. “There’s another Adan? How strange.”
The Adan on the ground chuckled weakly. “So what if you know? I’m dying soon. Nothing matters anymore. Do as you please.”
Wu Jue stepped forward, pressing a palm against his chest, forcibly freezing his wound with chilling energy. “Dying won’t be so easy. Tell me the secret between you and Adan, or I’ll feed you to the zombies!”
Dao Ba Hua urged him, “They’ve already sold you out. Why fight so hard? Maybe there’s still a way to survive. In the apocalypse, survival is all that matters. Who cares who you befriend?”
Hearing this, the injured man glanced at Wu Jue and suddenly smiled. “I don’t mind telling you. I’m not Adan—I’m his double, Awen. A little over a week ago, I fled here. Because I look like him, he chose me to stand in for him. I knew this day would come, just didn’t expect it to be so soon.”
Wu Jue chuckled. “That makes things easier. Want to become the real Adan? I can make that happen.”
A wicked smile spread across his face as he signaled Dao Ba Hua. “Take him to the car. Follow me.”
Turning, Wu Jue vanished into the jungle to pursue Huilun and the real Adan.
Soon, by the roadside, he spotted the two locked in fierce combat. Two corpses lay nearby—Adan’s loyal men, evidently slain by Huilun.
Unexpectedly, the real Adan’s skills were impressive, especially his flying kicks, which were nearly flawless. Without Huilun’s experience as a martial saint, he might have struggled to handle him.
Wu Jue watched for a moment, then quickly devised a plan. Suddenly, he fired three shots toward Adan, forcing both fighters to cease their attack.
When they separated, Wu Jue sprang forward and tackled Adan to the ground. His palms formed claw shapes as he unleashed the deadly Yin Claw Technique, shattering Adan’s leg strength. Any kick from Adan would be met with a hard grab and brutal counterattack, crippling his legs.
Adan cautiously tried two kicks but was intimidated by Wu Jue’s stance. One toe was broken, narrowly escaping worse injury. He then dared not attack recklessly.
They circled each other warily. Adan removed his sunglasses. “Not bad. Didn’t expect your skills to be so diverse. What style are you? Wing Chun? Tai Chi? Surely not Muay Thai or Jiu-Jitsu?”
Wu Jue understood perfectly and sneered, shifting stance to a kicking posture. “Ancient techniques, not some fringe styles. You think your kicks are unbeatable? Let me show you what real fast legs look like.”
His legs shot up at an impossible angle. One kick sliced through the air, striking Adan’s face with a gust of wind. Blood spurted from Adan’s nose as he staggered back several steps.
Seizing the moment, Wu Jue launched a flurry of punches, battering Adan into the earth several feet deep. Adan’s head emerged bruised and swollen. “What kind of kung fu is this?”
“Dalin Temple Divine Skill,” Wu Jue said, retracting his foot. “Never seen anything like it, huh?”
Picking up the fallen sunglasses, he put them back on Adan. “From now on, you stay here. Whether you live or die is up to fate.”
