Chapter Fifty-One: Reversal
Huron and Tell, who had set off early, had taken a detour into the city of Tianhai. Serving as bait to attract the enemy’s attention, they disguised themselves as Senseless and wandered around the city. In truth, Tell was quite dissatisfied at the time, feeling that this was a waste of time.
“The Celestial Execution Clan’s fortress has already been destroyed. There’s no way new enemies will appear so soon. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill,” he complained.
Huron chuckled. “Trust me, this is safer. I have a feeling Senseless can’t be the only survivors in Tianhai City. Maybe there are others still alive.”
“You got that right. Aren’t we survivors too?” A cheeky voice suddenly interjected.
The two of them turned and saw Ghostface. This time, he wasn’t wearing his usual mask; instead, he had painted a grotesque, stage-like phantom face over his wounded features, making him look both comical and sinister.
“Ghostface, you again?” Huron asked warily. “Last time you escaped from prison—are you here to cause more trouble?”
“No! We just want to discuss whether we can cooperate. Isn’t that right, Rossi?” Ghostface laughed, glancing behind them.
In an instant, a figure lunged forward and pinned Huron to the ground. An overwhelming poisonous vapor enveloped him, making it nearly impossible to breathe, and the potent venom coursed through his body.
Tell, seeing this, fired a beam of mirrored light, trying to blast Rossi away. But to his surprise, zombies surged from all directions and surrounded him tightly.
Tell instantly found himself in a desperate fight, until a cloud of smoke drifted before him, his mind grew hazy, and he lost consciousness.
Ghostface looked down at the two fallen men with a triumphant grin. “Why is it always so easy to deal with you people? Maybe I should go straight for Xiao Yang or Senseless instead; that would be more entertaining.”
Rossi suddenly sprang up, grabbing Ghostface by the collar. “Don’t lay a finger on Xiao Yang. He’s mine. I’m going to turn him into poison, swallow him whole, and become the smartest person on earth.”
Ghostface let out a bizarre laugh, unfazed by Rossi’s threat. “Relax, we can talk this out. Just don’t be so rude, or I might not be able to help myself!”
As he spoke, a dagger appeared in his hand, and without warning, he slashed Rossi’s wrist and severed his own collar.
He landed back on the ground, straightened his clothes with a smile, and said, “No problem. Let’s hurry and take our guests away. I can’t wait to show Senseless a good show.”
Rossi’s face twisted in pain as purple-black venom oozed from his wounded wrist. He howled, kicked Tell and Huron hard, then hefted them into a car.
Ghostface leapt into the vehicle with manic glee. “Seatbelts, everyone! The wildest, most thrilling ride is about to begin.”
He slammed the accelerator, sending the car hurtling through the city at breakneck speed.
Lying in the back seat, Huron began to regain some clarity. With his innate adaptability and the power absorbed from the meteorite during his resurrection, he was now capable of mimicking any form. The poison coursing through his body fused and adapted quickly, and as he recovered, he didn’t immediately rouse himself. Instead, he cautiously reached out to Tell beside him.
To his surprise, Tell wasn’t fully unconscious either; as Huron stirred, Tell let out a faint groan, and the two could suddenly sense each other’s thoughts.
“Looks like we’re both caught? Don’t worry. As long as my mirrored light shines here, we can sense each other’s minds.”
“Thank goodness we’re not completely done for. What’s the plan?” Huron responded telepathically, utilizing their mental connection.
Tell subtly scanned the entire car with mirrored light. “We’ll play it by ear and catch them off guard.”
Suddenly, the car jolted violently, sending Huron flying from the backseat and crashing into the two men in front.
Rossi spun around angrily. “What the hell, do you want to get us all killed?”
Ghostface slammed on the brakes. “What’s the rush? Isn’t this fun? We’re here—get out and prepare.”
He hopped out and began slapping the car roof in excitement outside a photography studio. “Perfect location! We’ll shoot an amazing video here to give Senseless a big surprise.”
Rossi flung open his door with a scowl. “Cut the crap. Are you planning to make me do all the work while you have fun?”
He dragged Huron out, throwing him to the ground. “Is he even alive? Pathetic. How are we supposed to put on a good show like this?”
“He’s not that easy to kill,” Ghostface replied. He’d only seen Huron a few times during the great city battle. “He’s a master of disguise, even better than me. For all we know, he’s faking.”
He stomped on Huron’s thigh hard, but there was no reaction. “Damn, is he really dead?”
He gave Huron another hard kick. “I’ll set up the camera; you deal with them. When we’re done, we’ll just bury them.”
Ghostface darted into the studio while Rossi went to fetch Tell. But as soon as Tell was out of the car, his eyes snapped open and a blinding light flashed before him, forcing Rossi to shield his eyes.
“Agh!” Rossi cried out, stumbling back—only for someone behind to seize him. Tell unleashed another burst of mirrored light and, after a few struggles, Rossi collapsed, unconscious.
Huron flung him to the ground with a cold smile. “Now it’s our turn to put on a show.”
He slid his hand over Rossi’s body, his palm exuding a transparent liquid that spread across Rossi’s skin. Soon, Rossi’s appearance changed entirely, becoming the spitting image of Huron.
Meanwhile, Huron had transformed himself to look like Rossi, and now stood before Tell, putting on a stern expression. “Tell, surrender at once or I’ll smother you with poison gas!”
Tell snorted derisively and lay back in the car.
“Hey, at least give me a response,” Huron muttered, moving to pull him out—just as Ghostface came out the door. “Seriously? Still haven’t dragged him out yet?”
Reacting instantly, Huron grinned. “You’re one to talk. This guy was faking it, almost fooled me. Luckily, I knocked him out, or we’d be in trouble.”
He hoisted Tell, who this time didn’t dare resist, and threw him to the ground. “So, what’s next?”
“Time to film a beautiful set of shots and send them to Senseless and Xiao Yang for their enjoyment!” Ghostface laughed, beginning to record the two of them. Suddenly, he frowned in suspicion. “Wait, wasn’t that shape-shifter lying the other way a moment ago? How did he turn over?”
Huron quickly replied, “Told you, the Mirror Knight faked his death and wrestled with me—the struggle must’ve turned him over. Maybe if you helped instead of ordering us around, things would go faster.”
Ghostface laughed. “Hey, I’m just here for the ideas. Let’s enjoy the show.”
He recorded the two of them, even turning the camera on himself and making all sorts of mocking remarks to taunt Senseless.
After the shoot, he smugly admired his work. “Awesome, this explosive video is sure to drive Senseless crazy. Should I send it now, or… now?”
“You’d better never send it!” Tell suddenly rose up and blasted Ghostface away with a beam of mirrored light.
As Ghostface spun through the air, Rossi—who was actually Huron—caught him and slammed him to the ground, leaving him dizzy and bruised.
“You… you’re not Rossi!”
“That’s right. I was never Rossi. I’m Huron.” Huron waved, and instantly transformed his bodily fluids into cords, binding Ghostface tightly. “Thanks for pushing my limits, Ghostface. I’ve discovered even more of my powers thanks to you.”
Huron and Tell tied up the two villains and tossed them into a deep pit, leaving them to their fate.
After finishing up, the two let out a long breath, got back in the car Ghostface had driven, and took the camera to review the footage.
Huron laughed as he watched. “Gotta hand it to Ghostface for creativity—what a disgusting video. We can’t just delete it.”
Tell scowled. “What then, keep it for our own viewing pleasure?”
Huron suddenly remembered something, pulling out the phone Ghostface had left in the car. “Don’t humans use phones to communicate? Let’s upload it as a memento.”
He ran back into the studio, fiddled with the equipment, and returned, showing Tell the video and laughing nonstop.
Tell snapped, “Are you done yet? Who wants to watch their own embarrassing moments for fun? I’m leaving.”
He stomped on the gas, sending the car speeding off. Huron, caught off guard, fumbled with the phone, accidentally sending a message: “You have successfully sent the video to your friend Xiao Yang.”
“What? You sent the video?”
“I… I think I did!”
