Chapter 134: We shall go together. Rest assured, we will not die.
Against the backdrop of the pitch-black sky, Jiang Yan and his companions streaked through the heavens like a meteor, racing forward at high speed.
Ji Chuxue’s gaze was locked tightly onto the communication jade pendant in her hand, her voice tinged with irrepressible urgency: "Master, the signal from Fifth Junior Sister’s jade pendant is just ahead. We are almost there."
Lin Qi nodded. His divine sense had already swept the area ahead, uncovering unusual signs. "There is a village up ahead; Xixi is likely there. I just scanned the area with my consciousness and detected spiritual fluctuations originating from beings of the Divine Realm. They may have already sensed our arrival."
Upon hearing this, Yun Li’s brow furrowed, his handsome face etched with wariness. "That aura… I find it somewhat familiar."
Jiang Yan’s heart tightened as he immediately pressed, "Yun Li, could it be your enemies?"
Yun Li gave a slight nod, his tone turning grave. "It is possible their hunt for me has not ended and has even extended to the Lower Realm. We must proceed with caution."
Jiang Yan turned his gaze toward Lin Qi, a flicker of worry in his eyes. "Master, if we engage them head-on, what are our chances of victory?"
Lin Qi stroked his beard, which had been ruffled by the wind, his expression resolute. "We shall simply face them together. Rest assured, you won't die."
Jiang Yan: "..."
If there were truly beings from the Divine Realm in Longevity Village, the mission to rescue the Fifth Junior Sister would become significantly more arduous. Furthermore, Master’s true strength had always remained an enigma.
"This Master Dragon will protect you all!" The little dwarf dragon was surprisingly full of fighting spirit regarding the impending battle.
"Yunyun will help everyone too!" Yunyun chimed in happily.
"We must save Fifth Junior Sister! Yun Li, rest assured, we will help you avenge yourself as well!"
After saying this, Jiang Yan accelerated his flight. He also cast a sturdy protective barrier around himself and donned the defensive cloak he had crafted earlier.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
Roughly ten minutes later, the group descended silently into Longevity Village.
As far as the eye could see, multiple corpses lay scattered near the village entrance, their skin a bizarre, ghastly shade of purple-blue. A mysterious green liquid pooled on the ground, emitting a nauseating stench.
Jiang Yan was filled with doubt. *Are these the corpse-ghosts? I thought they were supposed to be formidable, so why are they all lying motionless on the ground?*
*Caw, caw, caw...*
A flock of black crows, like messengers of death, landed on a withered tree at the village entrance. They fixed their sharp eyes on the corpses below, waiting for the right moment to feast on the flesh.
Jiang Yan attempted to use his divine sense to probe the entire village, but to his shock, there was not a single trace of life to be found.
"Senior Sister, is Fifth Junior Sister’s communication jade pendant still within the village?"
"The pendant is still here, but Fifth Junior Sister’s aura has vanished." Ji Chuxue’s answer struck everyone like a heavy hammer against the heart.
"Let’s go find Xixi’s jade pendant first."
Lin Qi sensed the pervasive evil aura lingering in Longevity Village, yet the presence of the beings from the Divine Realm had disappeared, as if they had never been there at all. They had presumably already departed. Now, they could only search for clues.
"Yes, Master."
Jiang Yan and the others began an exhaustive search of the village. The surroundings were deathly quiet, the eerie atmosphere sending chills down their spines. If a haunting melody were to play right now, followed by some horrific creature leaping out from a corner—oh, much like those hair-raising corpses on the ground—it would certainly be more thrilling than any haunted house.
"Meow, meow, meow..." Little White’s cry shattered the silence; it seemed to know the location of the Fifth Junior Sister’s jade pendant.
Little White sniffed the air with its sensitive nose, then bolted toward an ancient well.
"Meow, meow, meow!" *It’s right there!*
Jiang Yan and the others followed close behind, quickly reaching the side of the well. They cast their gazes in unison into the pitch-black mouth of the well, as if they could feel the sinister aura emanating from its depths.
Jiang Yan gathered his energy, instantly manifesting a scorching fireball in his palm. The light illuminated the bottom of the well, revealing the scene hidden in the darkness.
*Damn it all,* he thought, *I didn't know what to expect, but seeing it is enough to scare the life out of someone!*
It was fortunate that he was a cultivator; had he been an ordinary mortal, he might have been scared straight into the afterlife.
At the bottom of the well lay hundreds, perhaps thousands, of purple-blue corpses. They were piled densely together, forming a mountain of bodies. Their green eyes were wide open, frozen in the terror of their final moments.
Jiang Yan’s brow furrowed, a chill creeping into his heart. What exactly was going on with these corpses? Why were they in this ancient well?
He took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves, and said to the group, "Shall we go down and take a look?"
"Jiang Yan, I will stay at the wellhead with Little White," Yun Li suggested.
"Very well. Yun Li, keep in touch if there is any movement." Jiang Yan patted Yun Li on the shoulder.
With a flicker of movement, Jiang Yan vanished into the well. He descended slowly along the wall, the fireball in his hand burning steadily, illuminating everything around him. Lin Qi, Ji Chuxue, the little dwarf dragon, and Yunyun followed him down.
As they neared the bottom, the number of corpses increased. Finally, they reached the floor of the well. The bodies were strewn about in every direction, and a pungent, foul stench hit them head-on.
"Ugh..." The little dwarf dragon was the first to lose its composure and retch.
After purging its stomach, it looked back at the pile of corpses and cursed angrily, "Damn it! What kind of filth is this? It’s disgusting enough to kill me!"
The little dwarf dragon kicked the nearest corpse viciously. With a loud *clatter*, the force of the kick caused the mountain of corpses to collapse.
Jiang Yan and the others scrambled to dodge.
*Clang...*
As the pile collapsed, a hard object rolled out, striking the rocky floor of the well with a crisp, clear sound.
