Chapter 34: Which Senior Sister Are You?
When Jiang Yan and the little short dragon arrived at the Qilin Sect, the place was enveloped in silence.
Jiang Yan headed straight for the thatched cottage where he lived, bringing the little short dragon along. As the dragon took in the surroundings, it couldn’t help but exclaim, “I never thought your sect would be even more barren than our secret realm…”
“Hey, as long as I’m here, our sect will only get better and better,” Jiang Yan declared boldly.
“Mew, mew mew, meow, mew mew mew…”
At the sound of Jiang Yan’s voice, Little White immediately dashed over and leaped into his arms.
“Uh, Little White, how did you get so much fatter? Looks like there’s no shortage of tasty things in these mountains!” Jiang Yan teased as he held the cat.
Little White was always roaming wild in the mountains, and Jiang Yan had been rather worried about it being snatched up by one of the fierce beasts. Still, as the cat of Long Aotian, it ought to learn to face danger on its own.
Suddenly, Jiang Yan had an idea. “Little White, you’re my Long Aotian’s cat—how can you be content to be just an ordinary feline?”
“Mew?” Little White looked at him in confusion, clearly not understanding.
“From now on, you’ll train with me. That’s settled. You’ll be the very first cat in the world of immortal cultivation to train! Isn’t that exciting? Aren’t you happy?”
“Mew mew, meow…” Little White protested: This is your decision, not mine! I don’t want to train—I still want to go on dates with Big Yellow in the mountains…
Big Yellow was a tigress Little White had met in the wild. Both being felines, despite the difference in size, they had fallen in love…
The little dragon, who understood feline speech, laughed loudly, “Hahaha, this white cat doesn’t want to at all. You’d better give up on your unrealistic ideas.”
“Oh? You understand cat language?” Jiang Yan asked curiously.
“Of course. I’m a divine beast,” the little dragon said proudly.
Jiang Yan was delighted. “Didn’t expect you to be so useful. Can you be my translator?”
Heh heh, this little short dragon is great—not only a bodyguard but also an interpreter.
“Translator? What does that mean?” the dragon asked in confusion.
“It means you tell me what Little White is saying,” Jiang Yan explained.
“Oh, well, that’s easy. Leave it to me. By the way, the white cat just said it doesn’t want to train, it wants to date Big Yellow in the mountains,” the little dragon added.
Jiang Yan nearly choked on his own saliva. Had Little White picked up the word “date” after spending so much time with him?
But as the cat of Long Aotian, how could it be so lacking in ambition? Jiang Yan gently tapped Little White’s moist pink nose. “Think about it, Little White—if you become stronger, you’ll be able to protect Big Yellow!”
Gazing into Little White’s round, bright eyes, Jiang Yan continued, “And after you start training, your lifespan will increase. You could even teach Big Yellow to train, so you two can stay together for a long, long time.”
Little White mulled over his words. That’s true—in the mountains, it was always Big Yellow protecting it. This was hardly befitting of its dignity as a male! What if Big Yellow started looking down on it?
“Mew mew mew…”
The little dragon translated, “It says it agrees.”
Jiang Yan smiled in delight. “That’s more like it! Little White, we’ll start training together tomorrow.”
In the future, Little White would never forget tonight’s decision—a decision that changed its life forever…
...
The next morning, when Jiang Yan awoke, he felt a weight pressing on his chest. Opening his eyes, he found a dragon leg sprawled across him.
He glanced over at the little short dragon—wait, it was drooling in its sleep. Was it dreaming of something delicious?
“Little junior brother? You’re back?”
Suddenly, a voice rang out from outside the door, neither distinctly male nor female.
Startled awake, the little short dragon lifted and dropped its right leg on Jiang Yan’s chest, nearly making him cough up blood.
“Damn it, little dragon, are you trying to kill me?”
Rubbing his chest, Jiang Yan hurriedly got up. Too dangerous—he’d never let the short dragon sleep in his bed again.
The little short dragon apologized in a small voice, “S-sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
Jiang Yan went to open the door and saw a woman in a long green dress. Must be one of his senior sisters? She looked a whole head taller than him—she had to be at least 1.9 meters tall!
“Good morning! Heh, may I ask which senior sister you are?” Jiang Yan asked.
The woman glanced at him and teased, “Looks like my disguise is pretty successful. Junior brother, is it possible that I’m your senior brother instead?”
A stampede of wild horses thundered through Jiang Yan’s mind...
He hadn’t expected his senior brother to be a cross-dresser! Wasn’t this detail missing from the disciple handbook his eldest senior sister wrote?
How could such important information be left out? Clearly, eldest sister had no talent for snooping.
This person before him was none other than his third senior brother, Xie Lingzhou, twenty-three years old, at the intermediate Nascent Soul stage.
“So it’s you, third senior brother. A pleasure to meet you!”
“As soon as I got back, eldest senior sister told me we had a new junior brother, so here I am to check it out. Aren’t you going to invite your senior brother in to sit?”
Even the way third senior brother spoke was rather feminine—had he become this way after being surrounded by so many women in the sect?
“Please, third senior brother, come in. My place is humble, so please forgive the lack of comfort,” Jiang Yan said politely, ushering Xie Lingzhou inside.
Taking in the sparse furnishings, Xie Lingzhou nodded, “Yes, it is rather basic.”
Jiang Yan thought, We all live in thatched huts—what kind of decor could I possibly have?
Suddenly, Xie Lingzhou noticed the little short dragon and asked, “Junior brother, is this little yellow dragon your spirit pet?”
“I’m not a spirit pet! I’m a guest,” the little dragon retorted.
“Oh? A guest?” Xie Lingzhou inquired with interest.
“Well, sort of. We met in the Sun and Moon Island secret realm, and it said it wanted to follow me…” Jiang Yan gave a brief explanation.
“Junior brother, it seems you had quite an adventure in the secret realm. This little dragon may look small, but it can talk, so it must be of a high rank. You should treat it well.”
“Heh, don’t worry, senior brother. I’ll take good care of it.”
Xie Lingzhou pulled a slip of paper from his sleeve and handed it over. “Junior brother, keep this invitation safe. Three days from now, our Qilin Sect will be holding a gathering. Your other senior sisters will also return for it.”
“A gathering? Does our sect have a bigger thatched hut? Or is it an open-air event?” Jiang Yan asked with curiosity.
Xie Lingzhou found his junior amusing. “You’ll see when the time comes. I’ll be going now.”
“Heh, all right, senior brother. See you at the gathering.”
After Xie Lingzhou left, Jiang Yan examined the invitation carefully. The words “Invitation” were written in large script, and beneath them was a map showing the location of the gathering.
He scratched his head in puzzlement. He knew that place well—wasn’t it barren and empty? Could it be there was a hidden barrier?
