Chapter Seventy-Five: Little Ling Lets Slip a Secret
After watching everyone leave, Zixuan scanned the surroundings with her spiritual sense to ensure they were alone before pulling Tang Wei into the Purple Pearl Space.
As soon as they entered the main hall, Tang Wei began to question anxiously, “Xiao Xuan, what should we do? Will Yaya be in danger? I’m so scared! Does your demon really have such powers? Is he not even afraid of two cultivators at the Fasting Stage like us?”
“Weiwei, don’t be afraid! I think we’ve fallen into another trap. I need to think carefully about what we should do next,” Zixuan tried to reassure her.
Frowning, Zixuan sat in a chair in the hall for a long time, then summoned Xiaoling and asked, “Xiaoling, are you really unable to find Yaya? Didn’t Yaya come out of Weiwei’s belly? Is there truly no connection left between them?”
Xiaoling hesitated, then said, “Brother, there’s really nothing I can do!”
“Enough! Xiaoling! Don’t forget, you’re just a spirit tool. The two of us are your masters! Our affairs are not for you to decide!” Zixuan reprimanded her sternly.
Although Xiaoling had lived for hundreds of millions of years, she had never interacted with the outside world. Ziyang had never spoken to her about anything unrelated to cultivation, so her mind was as pure as a blank sheet of paper. Usually, Zixuan was gentle and refined, never so fierce. Now, when he raised his voice, she thought he meant to destroy her spirit. Terrified, she immediately knelt and cried, “Master, please don’t!”
Tang Wei had never regarded Xiaoling as just a spirit tool after all this time together; she had always considered her a little sister. Seeing her so frightened, and with Zixuan convinced Xiaoling could help, Tang Wei hurried over to coax her. “Xiaoling, don’t be scared. Zixuan would never hurt you. It’s just that Yaya is in the hands of the demon, and we’re worried about her safety. Can’t you see? I’m so anxious I can barely think straight. Zixuan couldn’t bear to see me like this, so he pushed you for a solution. If you do have a way, let’s talk it through together. You wouldn’t want to see us desperately searching, would you?”
Xiaoling timidly glanced at Zixuan, wanting to hear what he would say, but, still shaken, she quickly lowered her head.
Zixuan hadn’t expected to frighten her so much, and felt awkward. So he softened his tone, “Xiaoling, I only want you to share any solutions you might know. Why are you so scared?”
“Really?” Xiaoling asked, trembling.
“Of course!” Tang Wei said, puzzled by her fear. “Why are you so frightened?”
Xiaoling hesitated, but finally spoke up, “The old master told me that if I ever disrespected you, you could destroy me with a single thought. Zixuan, you were so fierce just now, so I got scared!”
“Silly girl! You’re like a sister to us! How could we ever do that to you? Don’t I scold Zixuan often too? Have I ever done anything to him? If I lost you, I’d be heartbroken. Xiaoling, you’re as important to me as Yaya,” Tang Wei comforted her.
Zixuan quickly tried to make amends, coaxing her as one would a child. “Xiaoling, I’m sorry for being so harsh just now. Don’t be afraid! Weiwei is right, we both see you as a little sister. We’d never hurt you.”
Hearing their reassurances, Xiaoling paused, then burst into tears, sobbing and complaining, “Zixuan, you’re terrible! You scared me half to death!” No matter how clever Xiaoling was at times, she was still just a child at heart.
“There, there, don’t cry. I’ll have time to teach him a lesson for you!” Tang Wei hugged her and wiped away her tears.
After venting, Xiaoling felt much better. She pouted and said, “I was only thinking of your best interest! Besides, if I help you find Yaya, her origins will be exposed. I promised the old master I wouldn’t reveal it. If I do, he’ll come after me—he’s much fiercer than you, brother.”
“No wonder you never answered me, no matter how many times I asked. But why wouldn’t that old Ziyang let you tell us? Yaya came from my belly, why can’t I know?” Tang Wei’s understanding gave way to frustration, her hands on her hips, lips pursed.
Zixuan shook his head helplessly, then smiled, “Did he say anything about what conditions would allow you to tell us?”
Glancing at Tang Wei, Xiaoling worried she might anger her, but since the two were persistent, she whispered, “You need to marry first.”
“What?” Zixuan nearly jumped for joy. That old Ziyang was unexpectedly helpful—would Weiwei agree to marry him now just to find Yaya sooner? Tang Wei, meanwhile, flushed a deep red and was at a loss.
Xiaoling looked at them in confusion, thinking, “This isn’t how I imagined it. Zixuan is acting normally—he’s always liked Weiwei, so of course he’s grinning like a fool. But why is Sister blushing? Isn’t she usually against the idea of them together? Normally, at this point, her face should turn black or green, not red. Could it be…?” Entertaining this possibility, Xiaoling couldn’t help but giggle.
Truthfully, Tang Wei herself didn’t know what was happening. She’d never liked it when Xiaoling teased them about marriage, but now, hearing it brought up so suddenly, she couldn’t help but blush. Then, hearing Xiaoling giggle, she thought Xiaoling was mocking her, became embarrassed and angry, shook off their hands, and headed out.
The two were left stunned, at a total loss. Xiaoling grew anxious and asked Zixuan, “What should we do? I think Sister is angry!”
Zixuan spread his hands and, with a long face, sighed, “There’s nothing I can do. Does Weiwei really dislike me so much? She gets angry the moment this is mentioned!”
Xiaoling hurried to comfort him, “No, Brother Zixuan, I think Sister likes you a little now—I saw her blush!”
“Really? Weiwei likes me? Then…” Zixuan began, but Xiaoling tugged his sleeve hard, signaling that Tang Wei had returned.
Tang Wei had stormed out in a huff, but then remembered Yaya’s safety was their priority. She thought, “Forget it. Ziyang arranged for me to be Zixuan’s bride anyway. We’ve already been through life and death together—what’s there to be embarrassed about?” She turned back toward the main hall, and just as she reached the door, heard Zixuan’s words, making her blush again. She gritted her teeth and entered.
“Wei…Weiwei, you…” Zixuan realized Tang Wei must have overheard and, afraid she’d be angry, stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
Steeling herself, Tang Wei grabbed Zixuan and pulled him aside. “Fine, Xiaoling. I agree to marry Zixuan. Now, what do we do next?”
Xiaoling beamed. “Since that’s settled, what does Brother think?”
“Yes! Yes! Yes!” Zixuan, overjoyed to hear Tang Wei agree, could do nothing but nod enthusiastically with a silly grin.
“So, when will you get married?” Xiaoling, still uneasy, pressed for a definite answer.
Tang Wei clenched her teeth and declared bravely, “As soon as this matter is resolved, we’ll marry!”
“Good! Then you won’t go back on your word this time!” Xiaoling wanted to make sure, just in case her sister changed her mind.
“Alright, alright! Are you done? Let’s get to the point!” Tang Wei, using gruffness to mask her embarrassment, replied impatiently to Xiaoling.
