Chapter 121: The Most Venomous Sea Snake in the World

Zhang Can spent quite some time forcing the snake venom in Su Xue’s body to a single point before finally drawing it out through the wound. Black droplets of blood trickled from her wrist.

Although a trace of the venom remained in her system, it was no longer a major concern. Zhang Can let out a sigh of relief, wiped the sweat from his brow, and went behind the reef to retrieve Su Xue’s clothes, dressing her in a haphazard manner.

Seeing Su Xue still unconscious, Zhang Can called out to her twice: "Su Xue? Su Xue?"

Receiving no response, Zhang Can offered a bitter smile. This woman had appeared at the seaside for no reason, only to end up poisoning herself and nearly losing her life. Truth be told, if he hadn't been there, she would surely have died after being bitten by a sea snake while swimming alone. The venom was so potent that without his spiritual energy to sustain her, she would never have survived those twenty minutes.

Reflecting on how he had been "mistreated" by her in the past, a wave of resentment welled up inside him. Honestly, he had done nothing wrong to her. His attempt to come clean about the three boxes was meant to resolve the issue and provide her with an explanation—something that should have only benefited her. Instead, she had repaid his honesty with cruelty, resorting to fists and feet at every turn. He still remembered how badly she had beaten him the first time. Thinking of these infuriating incidents, Zhang Can glared at Su Xue and gave her cheeks a few pinches. The skin was incredibly soft. Finding that unsatisfying, he reached out and squeezed her high, firm breasts a couple of times, finally feeling his anger dissipate.

Su Xue let out a soft "hmm," furrowed her brows, and slowly opened her eyes.

Zhang Can was startled and quickly pulled his hand back. He glanced at her with a sense of trepidation, wondering if she had noticed his lecherous behavior. Su Xue looked around, then said weakly, "How... how did I get to the shore? Weren't we... weren't we underwater?"

Before Zhang Can could explain, Su Xue gasped as if something had just come back to her. Her expression shifted, and she cried out, "The sea snake... the sea snake!" She sat up abruptly, her mind racing. She knew well that if she had been bitten by that kind of sea snake and couldn't get to a hospital in time, it would mean certain death. Furthermore, without the specific antivenom, there was no chance of survival.

As Su Xue sat up, Zhang Can retreated a few steps, feeling a bit guilty. While it was true that he had saved her, his recent act of retribution was something he couldn't speak of. If she knew what he had just done, he would surely be beaten again—and he knew he was no match for her in a fight.

However, it seemed Su Xue was unaware of his actions. Her gaze fell upon the reef where Zhang Can had spat out the venomous blood. She recognized the dark, toxic substance immediately and knew that only someone using their mouth could have extracted it. Since there were only two of them, it had to be Zhang Can.

Regardless of anything else, the fact remained that he had saved her life.

Su Xue didn't seem to notice Zhang Can’s distance. After staring at the blood, she asked, "Did you suck the venom out of my hand?"

Zhang Can gave a sheepish grin and remained silent. Faced with this temperamental woman and his own guilty conscience, it was better to be cautious.

Su Xue looked horrified; her knowledge of such things far exceeded his. She struggled to move, saying, "We must get to a hospital immediately! Hurry, or it will be too late!"

Zhang Can assumed she was worried about residual venom, so he didn't panic. He followed her lead without objection, though he offered no clarification, as he couldn't explain his own condition.

Su Xue, however, was worried about him. She knew that even without swallowing the blood, the venom could enter the body through the taste buds on the tongue.

In that life-or-death moment, Zhang Can hadn't abandoned her. He had saved her from the depths of the sea and then risked his own life to suck out the venom. Su Xue couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude. Anyone with basic knowledge knew that he could have easily ended up dead himself.

"Thank you for saving me!" Su Xue struggled to stand up, leaning against the reef. She said urgently, "Let’s go to the hospital. You might have absorbed more of the poison than I did!"

Zhang Can knew his own situation. He waved his hand dismissively. "I'm not going. I'll take you if you want, but if you feel fine, you can go back on your own. I don't think it's a big deal—it was just a water snake!"

"A water snake?" Su Xue offered a bitter smile. She thought he was genuinely ignorant and continued, "Let's go. We need to get checked at the hospital."

During this time, Zhang Can had already circulated his spiritual energy through his body several times. Finding no trace of poison, he felt at ease. The only venom had been a slight touch on his tongue, which his spiritual energy had completely neutralized. His mind was perfectly clear.

Since Su Xue was insistent, Zhang Can didn't refuse. He kept his distance, changed his clothes, and followed her to the road. Su Xue didn't take her own car; instead, she walked to Zhang Can’s BMW. Once he unlocked it, she struggled to get inside.

Zhang Can didn't help her; he was wary of her when she was conscious and wanted to avoid any physical contact that might lead to another beating.

Once Su Xue was in and had closed the door, Zhang Can got in and started the car. As they drove, he caught sight of her frowning and rubbing her chest.

This gesture terrified him. His hand trembled on the steering wheel, and he gripped it tightly. Fortunately, it seemed she was just feeling some general discomfort, and since she had been unconscious, she didn't realize he had touched her inappropriately.

Zhang Can felt a pang of regret. He hadn't wanted to humiliate her; he had just been unable to contain his anger at her previous rudeness. Since he couldn't win in a fight, he had seized the chance to vent. Thinking back, he realized he had felt nothing—he had just squeezed in a fit of spite. He had no memory of the sensation at all. If she ever found out, he would be truly wronged; after all, if one is going to take advantage of someone, one should at least get some pleasure out of it.

Su Xue rubbed her face as well. He had definitely used force there—enough that she was still feeling the pain.

Once Zhang Can convinced himself that she hadn't realized what he had done, he relaxed. Upon reaching the city, he asked, "Are you going to the hospital?"

Su Xue nodded. "I seem to be fine, but you must get checked. If you sucked out the venom, you might have an infection. That sea snake was highly toxic!"

"Highly toxic?" Zhang Can chuckled. "I saw plenty of those in the rivers back home. It's just a water snake. Old folks always say snakes in the water aren't venomous."

Su Xue didn't argue, believing his knowledge was inferior to hers. She urged him to drive to the hospital, where they both underwent blood tests. When the results were ready, they took them to the doctor for review.

The doctor, a man of over fifty with white hair and thick glasses, studied the reports for a long time. He then turned to Su Xue and said, "Young lady, show me your hand—the one that was bitten."

Su Xue extended her wrist. Her skin was as white as jade, and the swelling had subsided, leaving only two red fang marks.

The old doctor stared at the wound, even using a magnifying glass to inspect it. He frowned, looking deeply puzzled.

Zhang Can knew the venom had been potent—he had exerted quite a lot of effort to neutralize it—but he had no idea what kind of snake it was.

The doctor looked back and forth between the wound and the test results, clearly bewildered.

Su Xue had a hunch. She had seen such a snake before but hadn't dared to confirm it, as it shouldn't have been in these waters. If it really had been that species, she would have died on the beach, and Zhang Can would have died with her. Yet, here they were, both perfectly fine.

"Doctor, what kind of sea snake do you think it was?" she finally asked, watching him closely.

The doctor hesitated before replying, "It’s strange. These fang marks resemble those of the Belcher's sea snake, often cited as the most venomous in the world. It is many times more toxic than any other species; a single bite can kill over a hundred adults. But that snake is only found in the reefs near the Ashmore Islands off the northwest coast of Australia. You said you were bitten at the reef by the eastern suburbs—how could it possibly be here? Besides, if it truly were a Belcher's sea snake, neither of you would have survived to make it to this hospital."
