Liu Feng shouldn't have asked Kamio to look at the teenage boy before him. In the heart of the future Four Emperors, Red-Haired Shanks—who would one day dominate the second half of the Grand Line—thought to himself, now is exactly the right time to establish a good relationship.

“Is this the ship of Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King?” Kamio feigned disbelief.

“Haha, of course! I, Shanks, am proud to have served on this ship,” Shanks replied with a booming laugh.

Ah! Seems I’m rather lucky, Kamio thought. At least I didn’t end up in some desolate wilderness or stranded on the open sea.

“I’ll go fetch the captain. Wait here,” Shanks said before he walked out, grinning to himself. No need to tell a little kid anything more.

Kamio was overwhelmed with emotion—he was about to meet the legendary Pirate King from the OP saga. He had to make a good impression.

A few minutes later, footsteps sounded from outside. The door swung wide, and a dark-skinned giant in a captain’s coat strode in, followed by another burly man whose hair was streaked with silver. Kamio immediately recognized them. The one in front, with two upturned mustaches, could only be Gol D. Roger himself—the very Pirate King that Luffy, in the future, would always set as his goal. The man behind him was surely Silvers Rayleigh, Roger’s right-hand man, known as the Dark King.

“Haha, little one, you’re awake!” Gol D. Roger laughed heartily, his eyes gleaming with a sharp light.

“Uh-huh, thank you, Uncle, for saving me. Are you really the Pirate King?” Kamio gazed innocently at Roger, playing the part of a pure and naïve child.

“Haha, Pirate King? As long as you persist, anyone can become Pirate King. I was only the first. Little one, how did you end up drifting here? You know, we’re not far from the Calm Belt,” Roger said with a gentle smile.

Seeing Roger’s bold and unrestrained nature, Kamio found it hard to believe he was destined to die soon...

“Uncle, our ship ran into a storm. My father put me on a small boat, and he went down with the ship,” Kamio replied, his face full of sorrow—whether real or feigned, who could say.

“Oh, is that so? In the Grand Line, you can encounter anything. You should stay with us, then. By the way, what’s your name, little one?” Roger asked.

“Uncle, I’m Elros D. Kamio. You can just call me Kamio,” he answered earnestly.

“D, is it…” Gol D. Roger murmured softly. “Well then, you’ll stay here. My name also carries a D, haha!” With that, Roger laughed heartily and left.

D, huh! So this letter really does have a special significance. I must find out its true meaning, Kamio muttered to himself.

“Heh heh, you’re right, D does have a special meaning. You’ll have to search for it yourself when you grow up. Let me give you a hint—it’s at the end,” Silvers Rayleigh said, smiling.

“Mm, I’ll definitely go find it someday,” Kamio nodded. It seemed his guess was right: the mystery of the D could be uncovered at the end of the Grand Line.

“Uncle Rayleigh, where are we right now?” Kamio asked. He had no idea how long he’d been in this world, and still didn’t know his whereabouts.

“Hmm, we’re in the West Blue, heading toward the captain’s hometown. Is there something you need?” Rayleigh asked curiously.

West Blue? That’s where Nico Robin’s hometown, Ohara, is! I should go see her.

“Uncle Rayleigh, I have family in Ohara, in the West Blue. Can you take me there?” Kamio asked.

“Oh, there? I’ve heard there are many archaeologists in that place. All right, I’ll go ask the captain now.” With that, Rayleigh left.

Nico Robin, let me be your guardian. I won’t let you be alone anymore.

Watching the busy crew on deck through the window, Kamio couldn’t help but think how wonderful this world was—the air was fresh, and freedom seemed so alluring.

Suddenly, someone burst in. “Kamio, is it true you’re leaving?” Of course, it was Red-Haired Shanks.

“Yes, Shanks. I’ll be leaving soon, but I’m sure we’ll meet again someday,” Kamio replied earnestly.

He walked out onto the deck, gazing at the vast ocean. Kamio really wanted to jump in and swim a few laps, but when he saw the sea kings occasionally surfacing in the distance, he abandoned the idea.

“Haha, little one, I heard from Rayleigh you have family in Ohara. All right, we’ll get you there!” Captain Roger came over to say.

“Yes, I’ll be going soon. Thank you, Captain, and thank you, Uncle Rayleigh and Brother Shanks. I’m sure we’ll meet again,” Kamio said, looking at the great Tree of Knowledge standing thousands of meters away—that was Ohara.

“Haha, but how do you plan to get there? The shore is still quite far from here. We could have a crew member escort you, but we won’t dock to avoid causing panic,” Roger said, while Rayleigh and Shanks watched Kamio with curious eyes.

“Heh, you’ll find out soon enough,” Kamio replied mysteriously, jumping onto the ship’s rail.

“Goodbye, Pirate King, Uncle Rayleigh, and Shanks!” With those words, he vanished from the rail right before their astonished eyes, reappearing dozens of meters above the sea, then, blinking several times, finally landed on the shore.

“Rayleigh, can you tell what kind of fruit he’s eaten? I’ve never seen anything like it,” Roger asked seriously.

Rayleigh thought for a moment and replied, “No, this isn’t the power of a Devil Fruit. His steps create a movement almost like instantaneous teleportation. It’s an incredible technique—if he grows up, he could become a peerless master.”

Shanks muttered under his breath, “Damn, I thought I’d have to worry about him.”

...

Back to our protagonist Kamio—at that moment, he was sprawled on the grass by the shore, gasping for breath.

“Damn, that wasn’t easy. The first time I used it, I only managed to flash twenty or thirty meters. I really need to train my body,” Kamio grumbled, forgetting that he was still just a child.

Looking at the ring on his hand, Kamio grinned. After glancing around, he stood up and ran into the jumble of rocks along the coast.

Finding a hidden spot, Kamio sat down on the grass. He gazed at the ring, and with a thought, two Devil Fruits appeared before him—one the Thunder Fruit, the other the Purple Light Fruit.

He swallowed nervously at the sight of these pineapple-shaped objects. He’d heard Devil Fruits tasted terrible—would the ones from Hongyun be any better?

He slowly peeled both fruits, revealing the flesh inside. Taking a sniff, he found they smelled sweet. He picked up the Thunder Fruit first and stuffed it into his mouth.

“Ugh, that’s awful!” He grimaced, then grabbed the Purple Light Fruit and stuffed it in as well.

After finishing both, a few seconds later he suddenly felt as if his very soul trembled. Intense pain wracked his body as purple lightning and purple light flickered across his skin, and Kamio blacked out...

Second chapter complete—what a challenge! Writing a novel myself, it’s not as easy as it looks, but I’ll keep at it. Group number: 70796064
