Chapter Three: The Endearing Robin

One Piece: Rise of the Emperor Yanxin Wu 2957 words 2026-04-13 03:10:23

Three days and nights had passed. Because this place was so secluded and right by the sea, no one had witnessed the strange phenomena occurring here.

Over these three days, Camio had been in excruciating agony—he truly understood what it meant to experience pain that cut to the bone. He fainted several times, only to awaken again in torment, as if all the pain of his previous life's twenty years had been concentrated into this single ordeal.

Gradually, the pain started to ebb away, and the lightning and violet light surrounding his body began to stabilize.

“Whew... that was unbelievably painful. I should've just eaten one. If I’d known it would hurt this much, I would have stopped at one,” Camio muttered, rapping his own head and slowly climbing to his feet.

In truth, Camio had no idea how many benefits this crisis would bring him in the future. The transformation of his body would make his cultivation even smoother, and directly consuming two fruits at once had shattered the established rules of the Pirate King world, further altering his body. Of course, those three days of pain were not for nothing—he had leapt directly to the second stage of fruit usage: “Control.” However, progressing to the next stage would likely take much longer.

He stood up slowly and sensed the changes in his body. He felt lighter, no longer weighed down by the lethargy that plagued his past existence. He tried jumping and soared over a meter high.

“Heh, this feels great, but it’s still too weak. Let’s try out the fruit’s power.” Camio grinned.

He raised his hand, focusing on lightning with his mind. Instantly, sparks of lightning flickered across his palm, growing rapidly until his entire body was enveloped in crackling energy. With a wave, he launched a half-meter-wide ball of lightning.

With a thunderous “boom,” a massive explosion shook the air, and when the smoke cleared, a crater nearly five meters across and several meters deep pitted the cliff face dozens of meters away.

Staring at the enormous crater, Camio was momentarily stunned, then broke into a foolish grin. He hadn’t used his full strength—he could sense that he was capable of producing a lightning sphere at least a hundred meters in diameter, and that was using only the energy within his own body. He hadn’t tapped into the powers of the natural world like Eneru of Skypiea, who could create a sphere of lightning over a kilometer wide—a technique known as “Raigo.” At that time, Eneru’s fruit mastery had likely reached the third stage: “Mastery.”

Feeling the power of lightning, Camio judged that he was at the second stage—“Control.” When he reached the third stage, he should be able to create kilometer-wide spheres of lightning with his bare hands, enough to annihilate an island. If he could harness the natural elements as well, who knew what heights he might reach? The thought made him grin with giddy excitement.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed nearby—someone was approaching. In an instant, Camio vanished in a flash of violet light, reappearing several hundred meters away.

He glanced at his own hands. Yes, that was elementalization, but not from the Thunder-Thunder Fruit—it was from the Violet Light Fruit. It seemed unmistakable: he could use both powers. Camio leapt with joy.

With a gesture, he summoned a giant sword of violet light, ten meters long, humming and vibrating in his grasp. He swung it a few times, but the ground made no sound and raised no dust.

Camio altered the sword’s shape—turning it into a giant “flyswatter.” With a laugh, he tapped the ground before him, which collapsed instantly; the area untouched remained perfectly neat.

Camio chuckled softly. “Now’s not the time to celebrate. I still need to train—my goal is to become the strongest.” He gazed up at the sky, violet light shimmering in his eyes, resolute.

His stomach rumbled. Glancing at the sky, he saw dusk was upon him. He hadn’t eaten in three days; it was time to find food.

Camio partially transformed into his elemental form and slowly took to the air. Indeed, the Violet Light Fruit also allowed flight as long as he didn’t fully elementalize.

Spotting several figures in the distance, Camio flew off in the opposite direction.

Several hundred meters from the shore, about ten meters above the water, Camio hovered in midair. Finding no food and unwilling to go into town—besides, he had no money—he decided to use himself as bait.

Ha, using himself as bait to fish for Sea Kings.

Suddenly, the water stirred. A massive maw burst from the surface, snapping at Camio, who dodged in a flash, reappearing dozens of meters away. With a hum, a translucent violet sword several meters long appeared in his hand. He swung it a few times.

The massive Sea King, several meters long, was instantly cut to pieces, its remains floating on the surface.

Camio drifted down, picked up a large chunk of meat, and swiftly flew back to shore. If he didn’t hurry, the scent of blood would attract more Sea Kings.

He landed among the rocks, then gathered some dry wood from the forest.

Using the Thunder-Thunder Fruit’s power, a violet bolt flashed, and the wood caught fire. A rack of light materialized in midair, and he cut the Sea King’s meat into smaller pieces to roast over the flames, turning them slowly.

Half an hour passed, and night had nearly fallen. The aroma of roasting meat filled the air. Camio licked his lips, picked up a piece, and began to wolf it down. It was surprisingly delicious—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and incredibly tasty. No wonder the Straw Hat crew loved roasting Sea Kings.

He was halfway through his meal when footsteps approached from behind, stopping behind a tree ten meters away.

Camio looked back. After enduring the trial of the two fruits, his eyesight had greatly improved; he could clearly see a child peeking from behind the tree.

“Hey, little one, are you hungry? Come over!” Camio called, then turned back to his food.

After a few seconds, the footsteps drew closer, stopping not far from Camio. He looked up.

He was stunned. It was Nico Robin—a little girl of about four or five, thin and frail, with long black hair, her appearance evoking sympathy.

Camio snapped out of his daze after a few seconds, a gentle arc curving his lips. “Come, sit down—let’s eat together.”

Little Robin eyed the violet-eyed boy and his strange smile, shivered involuntarily, but her hunger won out and she sat down beside him.

Camio handed her a well-roasted piece of meat. Robin looked at him and asked softly, “May I eat this?”

“Of course, there’s plenty more,” Camio replied with a grin.

Robin took it, opened her little mouth, and bit in. The savory meat filled her senses; the warmth and flavor made her eat eagerly.

Camio, already full, kept his gaze on Robin. It was obvious from her appearance she hadn’t been living well.

He recalled that Robin lived in someone else’s home, her life a monotonous line between there and the Tree of Knowledge. She had no friends. Camio’s eyes softened with tenderness—indeed, with love.

From now on, I’ll be the one to care for you, he silently vowed.

“Little sister, what’s your name?” He knew already, but asked anyway.

“Nico Robin. Big brother, you can call me Robin,” she said, looking at Camio, who was about her age.

“Alright, Robin. My name is Aelros D. Camio, but you can just call me Camio,” he replied with a smile.

“Okay, Brother Camio.” Robin glanced at him and spoke softly.

“Brother Camio, I should go home now, or my aunt will be angry.” Robin’s voice was gentle.

“Alright, go on. I’ll be staying here, so you can come and play with me anytime.” Camio pointed to a little treehouse at the edge of the woods, built during the barbecue by carving into a massive tree with his light sword.

“Yes, then I’ll be going.” Robin nodded.

“Go ahead. Remember to come back tomorrow.”

“I will.” Robin finished speaking and ran off into the woods.

With his enhanced vision, Camio clearly saw a few tears falling through the air.

He sighed and followed her for a while before returning.

In fact, Robin’s house was only a few hundred meters away. He’d chosen this spot perfectly.

Looking up at the sky, Camio murmured, “Robin, may your future change because of me. May you no longer be a spirit of the darkness, but step into the sunlight as a beautiful angel.”
