Chapter Forty-Two: A New Discovery!
Beneath a radiant blue sky stretched an endless sea, where a ship over thirty meters long drifted aimlessly. Several days had passed since their departure from Red and the others, and Kamille, too, had no particular destination—merely wandering through this boundless ocean.
Kamille reclined on a deck chair, the Ice Phoenix nestled in his arms, her delicate face resting against his powerful chest. She looked as if she were asleep, yet her beautiful eyes gazed intently at him. A picturesque scene of a handsome man and a lovely woman, indeed.
With his free left hand, Kamille lit a cigarette, took a couple of drags, and exhaled several smoke rings. A trace of confusion flickered in his eyes. It had been more than a decade since he arrived in this world. Now, his strength was unmatched; two beautiful wives accompanied him. He had no ambition to rule the world, so what was there to do? Should he join Luffy and his crew once the story began? Forget it—he didn’t mind befriending them, but following them wasn’t appealing. That ship could inspire many, and he was, in a way, part of that tale, but if he boarded it too, what would be the point? With the three giants among the Straw Hats, there’d be nothing left for them. He could be their friend, perhaps offer some guidance, but not serve as their caretaker.
“What are you thinking about?” Ice Phoenix asked curiously, having noticed the confusion in Kamille’s eyes. How could someone so powerful still be unsettled?
“Ah, it’s nothing.” Kamille returned from his reverie, glanced at the Ice Phoenix nestled beside him, and merely sighed without answering.
She didn’t press. If he didn’t wish to speak of it, he must have his reasons. When he was ready, he’d tell her.
Kamille breathed a quiet sigh of relief. He’d tell her later. She wasn’t Robin—Robin only found out by accident, and he’d never planned to tell her either.
“Let’s put the ship away and fly for a change. At least that’s a bit more interesting,” Kamille said, patting Ice Phoenix.
“Mm, being on the ship is dull. Flying would be much more fun.”
The two rose into the air, standing as if on nothing. Kamille waved his left hand, and his ring flashed; the striking ship vanished into the endless sea. Looking around, there was nothing in sight—no islands, no ships, not a soul.
“Where to?” Ice Phoenix asked, standing beside Kamille and holding his hand.
Kamille frowned slightly, narrowed his eyes, and unleashed his spiritual sense. It swept boundlessly over the sea, now capable of extending several thousand kilometers, though no farther.
“Hmm?” Suddenly, Kamille turned his head to the left, eyes fixed on the water, as if he’d discovered something.
“What is it? Did you find something?” Ice Phoenix asked, intrigued by Kamille’s expression.
A purple light flashed from his ring, and the “Purple Sovereign” sword appeared, unsheathed in his hand—the gemstones on its blade making it especially beautiful.
“Let’s go take a look. There’s something on the seabed that can actually block my spiritual sense,” Kamille said gravely. The ocean here was over thirty thousand meters deep, and when his spiritual sense swept past the seabed in that direction, he clearly felt it being obstructed, unable to discern what lay there.
“Alright.” With a wave of her right hand, Ice Phoenix summoned a pure white, transparent sword—elegant and clearly meant for a woman.
With their direction set, Kamille flew ahead, Ice Phoenix following closely behind.
Soon, they arrived above the mysterious spot. Kamille and Ice Phoenix exchanged a glance and nodded.
“Let’s go down.”
Splash!
Splash!
Two splashes broke the surface, and the sea was once again empty and silent, as if foreboding something.
…
Kamille and Ice Phoenix dove deeper, one after the other. Some massive sea kings caught sight of them but fled in terror.
The depth soon reached over ten thousand meters; the pressure increased, but the sea kings grew smaller, some barely two or three meters long—yet seemingly even stronger.
At over twenty thousand meters, Kamille frowned. Here, the sea kings simply swam away at a distance, no longer panicked as before.
He stopped; Ice Phoenix halted beside him, taking his hand. She was, after all, a woman, and the utter darkness at these depths would be impenetrable to anyone without their extraordinary powers—even then, their vision barely spanned a hundred meters, the range shrinking as they descended.
“Darling, go inside the ring first. I’ll go down and take a look,” Kamille suddenly said.
Ice Phoenix was startled. Was there something terrifying below?
“No, I want to go with you,” she said firmly, gripping his hand.
Kamille frowned, but seeing her determined gaze, he nodded.
“If there’s danger, don’t resist. Let me put you inside the ring—that way, we won’t be separated,” Kamille cautioned her.
“Alright.”
Hand in hand, they continued descending.
At over twenty-five thousand meters, the sea kings grew larger again—most forty or fifty meters long, some over a hundred. These sea kings watched Kamille and Ice Phoenix with curiosity, making no attempt to escape.
Kamille felt his scalp tingle. The strength of these creatures surpassed even the Four Emperors’ admirals by several times. Why were there so many powerful beasts here? Could this be where the ultimate treasure was hidden?
Suddenly, Kamille felt as if he’d passed through a membrane. The pressure dropped abruptly, but an immense sense of danger washed over him.
“Hurry, get inside,” Kamille urged.
Ice Phoenix, sensing it too, hesitated for a moment, then vanished in a flash of purple light, entering the ring. She knew that staying would only be a burden—despite her strength, this was the deep sea. It was better to enter the ring and ensure she wouldn’t be separated from Kamille.
Kamille glanced at the ring, his eyes burning with excitement. Danger? Hmph! Since arriving in this world, he’d never truly faced danger. To find such a perilous place—how thrilling.
The “Purple Sovereign” vanished; instead, the “Spirit Snow Blade” appeared in his hand, drawn from his core. Kamille sensed something terrifying here—the “Purple Sovereign” might not suffice, and if it broke, that’d be a pity. Better to use the blade.
Was that movement below?
Kamille steadied himself, closed his eyes, then opened them three seconds later—activating the “Eternal Kaleidoscope,” a power he hadn’t used in a long time. He was determined to see this through.
Peering downward, the “Eternal Kaleidoscope” enhanced his vision, allowing him to see for kilometers.
Kamille shivered. “This... this is—!”
Countless giant sharks, each tens of meters long, swam back and forth, as if guarding something. Yet, none ventured upward. Their strength was nearly a third of Kamille’s own; if he were surrounded, even he might fall here.
What was that? Kamille squinted. Deep below, something glimmered faintly—without the Sharingan, he’d never have seen it. Since passing through the membrane, his spiritual sense could only reach a few hundred meters—worlds apart from above. He had no choice but to be cautious.
Should he go down, or not?
So many unknowns in this world—how had that fool never mentioned such a dangerous place? Irresponsible indeed.
Kamille’s grip tightened on his blade. He’d made up his mind. Even with countless sharks blocking the way, he could simply cut through them.
With a surge, Kamille shot down into the sharks’ domain.
“Hah!”
The “Spirit Snow Blade” slashed down, releasing a massive wave of white energy, cleaving several sharks in half. The others, realizing the intrusion, responded at once, baring their giant jaws as they charged.
Kamille could see their teeth clearly—over a meter long, razor-sharp. He had no doubt that being caught would tear him to pieces.
He snorted coldly and slashed wildly with his blade, sending out arcs of energy. The water turned crimson as the sharks devoured the remains of their fallen kin without hesitation.
Kamille paid no mind, hacking his way downward with the “Spirit Snow Blade.”
He drew closer—he could now see the glowing barrier, a shimmering curtain of multicolored light stretching for kilometers, with something below.
Suddenly, something rushed from behind. Kamille spun around, alarmed, but it was too late. He could only raise his blade in defense as a massive shark slammed into him like a speeding train. Blood spurted from his mouth, his organs twisted, and his left arm snapped with a sickening crack. With a roar, Kamille suppressed the blood in his throat and slashed down, cleaving the monstrous shark in two.
A piercing sound echoed through the water as Kamille was thrown into the glowing barrier. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he looked around.
“This... this is—!”
