A few minutes later, Kamille had already left the forest. Looking up at the nearby town, his heart pounded twice with intensity.

A towering wall separated the forest from the town, seemingly woven from iron wire, rising more than ten meters high and stretching so far on either side that its ends could not be seen. Every hundred meters or so, a tower stood within the wall, pressed right up against it, each manned by a burly man in uniform, and perhaps other things as well.

Kamille observed the town from a concealed spot. There appeared to be no civilians—only soldiers. Judging by the circumstances, Kamille guessed this town had been specially built to defend the interior from beast attacks.

Suddenly, Kamille’s hand trembled slightly as a vehicle approached from inside the wall—not an ordinary car, for it had no wheels. Its base hovered about a foot above the ground, and two people sat atop it. The vehicle moved slowly from one end of the wall to the other, as if on patrol.

Kamille retreated behind a tree, pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a couple of drags, blowing out several smoke rings.

Heh, this is really something. Looks like this trip was worth it after all. Who would've thought there'd be such places in this world? The technology here is at least a hundred years ahead of Earth's. I'll sneak in soon and see if I can find anything good.

A wicked grin curled Kamille’s lips. He took two deep draws, then tossed the cigarette to the ground, crushing it with his foot.

Turning toward the town, Kamille straightened up. Suddenly, he pressed his hands together and quickly formed several strange seals.

“Invisibility Seal—activate!”

He spoke softly. As the final seal was made, Kamille remained motionless. Instantly, ripples appeared in the air around him, and in broad daylight, his body began to fade, slowly disappearing until it was gone entirely. Yet, two large footprints in the grass proved Kamille had not truly vanished.

“Heh, this is my first time using this seal, and it works pretty well,” Kamille’s voice sounded from empty air.

This seal was one of the thousands recorded in the cultivation technique Kamille practiced. Out of curiosity, he’d studied it in his spare time, never expecting he’d actually need it. It seemed there really was merit in reading widely.

As long as Kamille’s true energy circulated according to the method described, the invisibility would not fail. Though it limited his movements somewhat, the effect was negligible—he could still fly using the spiritual energy of heaven and earth.

Sheathing the “Purple Sovereign” at his waist, Kamille stepped out from behind the tree. Bending his knees slightly, he shot up into the sky, maintaining a speed of about ten meters per second. In battle, he could reach speeds eight times the speed of sound, far surpassing the velocity of ordinary bullets. Of course, using “Flash Step” or “Instant Transmission” was different, and when elementalized, he was nearly as fast as light itself.

Soaring over the iron wall, Kamille flew toward the heart of the town. From above, the town did not seem large—about a kilometer in radius. A sweep of his spiritual sense revealed just over five hundred inhabitants; the strongest among them were at most on the level of a Warlord, and there were only a few of these—scarcely more than could be counted on one hand.

Kamille soon arrived at the town center, where a small plaza lay. He landed slowly, remaining invisible, and looked around. Not far away stood a five-story building, beside which was a sign forged from some unknown metal. On it were inscribed the words: “Seventh District Organization Department, Second Legion.” Below this, in smaller letters, read: “Land D of the Lost Zone.” Seeing the letter “D,” Kamille’s eyes lit up. If that letter appeared here, this world must be connected with the one above.

He smiled faintly, dismissing the thought, and gazed at the imposing building nearby—it was probably a warehouse. Heh, let’s see if there’s anything interesting inside.

Kamille headed for the warehouse, unaware that the town’s highest commander, Lanst, was currently reviewing his records. The surveillance cameras had already captured Kamille’s image; a subordinate had reported a suspicious individual in the forest, so Lanst had watched the footage carefully, deeply alarmed. Only formidable experts dared venture alone in the “Forest of Terror.” Lanst was familiar with the dozen or so students and teachers who’d come to the forest for training, carrying official permits—such training occurred several times every year, nothing unusual. But this suspicious youth was another matter. Though he appeared young, and there were lone beast hunters in the forests, this area was rarely visited, being too far from the central city. Hunters preferred forests nearer to town for convenience. Even if this young man was here to hunt, his clothes were spotless, and though he carried a fine weapon, his behavior was too odd—not at all like a hunter. Lanst watched the data stream across his computer screen, but found no information matching the youth. In this place, the military kept records on everyone—every child’s birth was immediately logged. Could this person be from...

Unaware that the commander had already begun to suspect his identity, Kamille strolled leisurely toward the warehouse-like building.

He soon reached the warehouse. The doors were wide open—evidently, peace had reigned here too long, and with only soldiers around, the lack of security was unsurprising.

Kamille entered at a measured pace, glancing around as the light in his eyes grew ever brighter—he seemed to have discovered something valuable.

On a nearby rack built of silvery metal, all manner of advanced weaponry was displayed. Kamille walked quickly to the shelves—pistols, a variety of rifles, even weapons resembling rocket launchers, all sorts. He picked up two silver pistols, each weighing about a kilo, very similar to Earth’s Desert Eagle. Kamille gazed at the firearms, a sly, almost lascivious smile playing on his lips...

Kamille dropped his invisibility and sped through the forest, now clad in new attire—more avant-garde than anything on Earth: a black shirt, a coffee-colored jacket, deep blue jeans, and black sneakers. By any measure, he looked every bit a young master from a powerful family.

Two “Desert Eagles” were holstered at his waist, his hands folded behind his back—a picture of cool confidence.

Earlier in the warehouse, Kamille had found many treasures. He’d taken no less than ten pistols like these, several “sniper rifles,” and all kinds of compatible ammunition. He left the truly destructive weapons behind—these were only for shooting birds, and perhaps, if necessary, killing people.

He’d also found an abundance of brand-new clothes, both men’s and women’s. He didn’t take too much. Summoning Ice Phoenix from his ring, the creature was instantly captivated by the fashionable women’s clothing, taking several sets into the ring to try on. After stowing the chosen weapons and ammo, Kamille selected an outfit for himself, holstered two Desert Eagles, and left the town. Following the signs, he soon found the main road. Traveling swiftly through the forest near the road, he headed for a city about ten kilometers away: Crane City.

Not long after Kamille’s departure, the town behind him was thrown into chaos by the wailing of alarms...
