Chapter 111: The Decision (7)
After more than ten years of being together, she had always trusted him without a single doubt.
So she didn’t ask, no matter where he wanted to take her.
Watching the motorcycle ride away through the window, Nan Zixi looked utterly bored. "They really just left like that? That’s so rude, not even a word."
"Why would I tell you? Who do you think you are?" Shan Chouchou said aloud, but inwardly hoped Young Master Gu could persuade Qiao Xi, so they wouldn’t have to return to Yingran again. "I’m so tired, I’m going home," she told Duan Mu Ningyi, only to find the other girl lost in thought. She waved her hand in front of Ningyi. "What’s up?"
Duan Mu Ningyi withdrew her gaze, looking at no one, and answered, "Nothing."
"Then..." Shan Chouchou was about to speak, but Nan Zixi leaned over with a mysterious expression.
"Something’s wrong. You look so distraught. Someone who didn’t know better might think you just got dumped."
"Can you not spout nonsense all day long?" Shan Chouchou stepped forward to kick him, but he dodged. She gave up kicking and waved at Ningyi. "Let’s go."
Duan Mu Ningyi nodded.
"I’m leaving too. This is boring." Nan Zixi followed Shan Chouchou.
"Why are you coming along?"
"Who said I’m following you? I’m going home too."
Shan Chouchou was speechless. There was no helping it—they lived close, and it was the same route home.
Ignoring him, she quickened her pace.
Yet, despite that, she couldn’t shake off the two.
"Why are you walking so fast? It’s been so long since we last met. Don’t you miss me?"
"..." Seriously? Had he forgotten that whole mess at Yingran like it never happened? "Can you stop talking nonsense all day long?"
"Why do you think I’m talking nonsense? We’ve known each other for so long, haven’t you ever thought I liked you?" Nan Zixi looked hurt.
"..." Shan Chouchou twitched at the corner of his mouth. Did this guy have to act like this every day? "Fine! We have known each other for a very long time, but the longer it is, the more annoyed I get. Because that just means I’ve been bullied by you even longer. The day I started elementary school, I must have taken the wrong path; otherwise, how else could I have ended up in the same class as you?"
Though their homes were close, and she often played with neighborhood kids, she had never seen him until they ended up in the same class in elementary school.
"Haven’t you heard?" Nan Zixi looked at her sincerely.
"What?" she asked reflexively, then instantly regretted it. He answered:
"If you love her, you have to bully her."
"I’m impressed," she said with a mock expression of admiration. "Not even twenty yet, and you’ve already ‘loved’ so many people." Having known him so long, she wasn’t unaware of his penchant for mischief. From principals and teachers down to juniors and freshmen, whenever he was in the mood, he had all sorts of ways to tease people. Fortunately, she’d known him since childhood and was familiar with his twisted sense of humor, so she wasn’t interested and hadn’t been fooled or embarrassed by him.
"You really hurt my feelings saying that. How can you lump my feelings for you in with those for others?" Nan Zixi clutched her chest, lamenting and hurt.
Shan Chouchou, though used to it, couldn’t help rolling his eyes.
"So, what’s going on with Sister Xin?" he decisively changed the subject.
"Everyone says she has a boyfriend now."
"If I believe you, I’m an idiot."
"Why do you believe what Ningyi says?"
"Obviously, her credibility is ninety percent, and yours is ten percent. So who do you think I should believe?"
