"Yes," Qiao Xi said bluntly. Up until now, they could not truly be considered acquainted; at least, before he made that bet with Ji Niansheng, he had not liked her.

"Is that so?" Yu Fan smiled with an unreadable implication.

"Chasing someone simply for the sake of winning her over is a boring idea," Qiao Xi said, looking at him.

"Perhaps." Yu Fan did not deny it, saying earnestly and directly, "The harder something is to obtain, the more one wants it. That's a mentality many people have, and I'm no exception, but with the precondition that the person must be someone I'm interested in."

"I've said it before, I'm not an object for your games."

"Do you think I have that much idle time?"

"..."

"I'm very busy. I don't have time to play games."

To rephrase that meant he was serious?

If that were the case, Qiao Xi would be even more worried.

If it were just a game, it would be over once played, but if he was serious, it wouldn't be so easy to get him to let go.

"I'm home now. Can you leave now?" she asked. Her grandmother had already seen her and was looking in their direction.

"It doesn't hurt to walk this final stretch," Yu Fan said.

"I don't want my grandmother to know," Qiao Xi stated directly.

Yu Fan turned his head to look, instantly understanding why she had suddenly stopped earlier.

"All right then, I won't go over."

Qiao Xi said nothing more and simply walked away.

And as he had promised, he did not follow.

The person chatting with her grandmother had already left, leaving only her grandmother standing at the doorway waiting for her.

"Xiaoxi, who were you talking to over there?"

"A classmate," Qiao Xi said simply.

"You've reached the doorstep, why didn't you invite your classmate in for a visit?"

"He's very busy and doesn't have that much time," Qiao Xi said.

"Then why is he still standing over there without leaving?" her grandmother asked.

Qiao Xi turned around just as Yu Fan turned and got into his car.

She waited until the car drove away before turning back, saying, "He's gone."

"Next time your classmate has free time, invite him inside for a visit. That's the polite thing to do," her grandmother said.

"I know," Qiao Xi nodded.

After finishing dinner, Qiao Xi washed the dishes, told her grandmother, and went into her room to do her homework.

The homework wasn't much and she finished it quickly. Then she began to review her lessons, as there was an English test tomorrow.

Only, she couldn't concentrate; her gaze kept drifting toward the phone resting on the desk...

Chouchou had said she would send her a text message...

Shaking her head, she pulled back her thoughts and forced her concentration back onto her English textbook.

Halfway through her review, her phone rang with the sound of an incoming text message.

She put down her textbook and picked up the phone. It was a short message from Chouchou: Checked on Gu Shao. He's as cool as ever, doesn't talk much. Auntie took a leave of absence to take care of him at home.

Qiao Xi stared at the screen for a long time, unable to look away.

She only snapped out of it when she heard a knock on the door.

Her grandmother had washed some strawberries and called her out to eat them together.

She put down her phone and went out.

The strawberries were fresh and delicious; she ate several in one go.

"You took a few days off, will you fall behind in your studies?" her grandmother asked with concern.

"It's fine, a classmate lent me their notes."

"Seeing that you get along well with your classmates puts my mind at ease. Oh, right, was the person chatting with you outside today a classmate from your class?"

"No, a senior from the third year of high school."

"Wasn't there a classmate who picked you up for school a few days ago? Is it the same person?"

Qiao Xi nodded, and then heard her grandmother ask:

"Is he pursuing you?"

"No, just an ordinary senior," she explained.
