Perhaps it was because her presence was simply too strong, or because she was strikingly handsome, or perhaps because this was the only person in the class she knew by sight. In any case, she spotted Yu Fan at a glance.

Qiao Xi did not want to make a scene. After all, Nan Ernan was the one at fault first.

She was just about to apologize when, unexpectedly, Nan Ernan spoke up.

“Oh, the student council president. Looks like I’m lucky.”

He smiled with such harmless innocence that it only made him seem even more infuriating.

“Hey, you, did you come here on purpose to cause trouble?” the boy from earlier said again.

Yu Fan, meanwhile, remained seated in his place, as if he were merely an observer.

Even sitting there, doing nothing at all, he gave off an oppressive sense of intimidation.

Nan Zixi did not take that boy seriously at all and walked straight toward Yu Fan.

Unfortunately, before he could reach him, someone stopped him.

Then Qiao Xi stepped forward as well and caught him, lowering her voice. “Stop making a scene. Come with me.”

“How am I making a scene? I just wanted to see what Qiao Xi, the one bold enough to chase after our Fengyang, looks like. And now I’ve seen her—she’s quite beautiful.”

Nan Zixi gave a sweet, obedient smile, as irritating as could be.

He had not meant to draw attention, yet his words were enough for nearly everyone in the classroom to hear. All eyes were on them, or on Yu Fan.

Qiao Xi knew that if he kept this up, it would never end. Her gaze turned slightly cold. “Stop it.”

“I’m not making a scene,” he said. “Or is the rumor false? Is the student council president of Yanyan not actually pursuing you?”

Nan Zixi blinked innocently, like a curious child.

“You obnoxious Nan Ernan, have you got nothing better to do? Coming all the way here just to mess with Qiao Xi,” Single Chouchou said, striding over to kick him. Of course, he dodged. She looked exasperated. “If you’ve got the guts, then stop dodging.”

“You’re the one who’s clumsy. You never manage to kick me. Who else can you blame?”

“You—”

“Enough. Stop causing trouble!” Qiao Xi said in a low, stern voice.

“Oh, oh, you made Qiao Xi angry,” Nan Zixi said with a look of utter innocence.

“You’re the one who made her angry, not me,” Single Chouchou shot back. Then she quickly added, “Hurry up and leave, or Qiao Xi is really going to lose her temper.”

“Fine, I’ll go. Anyway…” As he spoke, Nan Zixi glanced at Yu Fan, then looked bored. “Someone here hasn’t said a single word. If the rumor is false, then he must not have the courage.”

Qiao Xi frowned. Just as she was about to drag him away, a voice sounded.

“Talking about me?”

It was Yu Fan’s voice, cool and low.

Nan Zixi pursed his lips in feigned innocence. “Looks like someone’s taking it personally.”

Yu Fan rose and walked over, still wearing that cool, aloof expression.

He stopped in front of Qiao Xi and looked down at her, the faint curve of his lips softening even his usually cold eyes by a fraction.

Seeing him come over, Qiao Xi had a very bad feeling.

“It’s not a rumor.”

She heard him say it, and then her hand was taken in his.

As he spoke, his gaze shifted to Nan Zixi, regaining its original chill and severity.

“Qiao Xi and I are dating.”

The moment his words fell, the classroom erupted into a stir.

Qiao Xi fought the urge to pull her hand free, because she could not. If she denied it in front of so many people and embarrassed him, then she could forget about having any peace in the days to come.

Besides, she had agreed to cooperate with him, even though she did not truly want to.

“Don’t disturb other people’s class here. Let’s go,” she said to Nan Zixi, then naturally withdrew her hand from Yu Fan’s.

He had not held it very tightly, as though he had already known she would not pull away.
