Chapter 90: You Will Return to Maplewind City (2)

Qiaoxi knew he was angry, because he had never spoken to her in such an uncompromising tone before.

She wanted to stop him, but then she remembered they were at the school gate and did not want to be surrounded by onlookers, so she quickened her pace and followed after him, intending to talk once there was no one around. She had not expected that Yu Fan would be outside the gate.

Gu Heng had never met Yu Fan, so of course he had no idea who he was. Besides, at that moment there was no one else in his eyes at all, so he pulled Qiaoxi along and happened to pass right by Yu Fan.

Qiaoxi actually hoped Yu Fan would not step into this again, but just as the thought crossed her mind, her other hand was already seized.

In the next instant, her whole body was yanked over, and she crashed into Yu Fan.

Although Gu Heng had been holding Qiaoxi’s hand, he had not used much force. But Yu Fan suddenly pulled her to him, and in one instant their hands were separated.

He turned around and saw Qiaoxi leaning against Yu Fan’s chest, and his gaze turned cold.

Qiaoxi quickly righted herself and avoided any further contact with Yu Fan’s body, but her hand was still firmly held in his.

She tried to struggle, but could not break free.

So she looked at Yu Fan, intending to tell him to let go, but he spoke first, and to Gu Heng at that.

“Where are you taking my girlfriend?”

His words made Qiaoxi frown and caused Gu Heng’s face to darken.

Gu Heng looked at Qiaoxi, but Qiaoxi avoided his gaze.

“I want to talk to him alone.”

Yu Fan’s lips curved slightly, not quite a smile, cold and inscrutable.

“Five minutes,” he said, then let go of her hand.

He was only claiming his territory. He had just made their relationship public today, and she was already leaving with another boy. How could that be allowed?

“I’ll wait for you in the car,” he said, and then turned and walked toward the vehicle parked nearby.

Qiaoxi did not look at him, nor at Gu Heng.

“Let’s go over there.”

This was the school gate, and Gu Heng had already drawn plenty of attention by holding her hand. Add Yu Fan into the mix, and it had immediately stirred up a crowd. She did not care about other people’s looks or gossip, but that did not mean she enjoyed being watched like a play.

Gu Heng watched her walk away, then turned his heavy gaze toward Yu Fan, who had already gotten into the car.

After a moment, he withdrew his eyes and walked toward her.

Once they reached a place where no one was around, Qiaoxi stopped.

She turned back, and Gu Heng stopped in front of her as well.

She looked at him with a calm, utterly natural expression.

“Go back first. I’ll come find you.”

“Is what he said true?” Gu Heng asked in a low, grave voice.

Qiaoxi did not answer. “I said I’ll come find you.”

Gu Heng said nothing, only stared at her.

She went on, “You know forcing me is useless.”

Gu Heng knew. Because he knew, when she transferred schools he had not forced her to stay. He thought she would come back, so he waited for her at Maple Crest. But nearly a month had passed and she still had not returned. She had not even taken the initiative to look for him...

And now, she even had a boyfriend...

“I’ve been waiting for you at Maple Crest all this time.” He looked at her, his eyes carrying a trace of pain. “I thought you would come back. I thought we would always be together.”

They had known each other since childhood, and after that had always stayed together, attending the same school and learning the same things. He had thought they would always be together and wanted to be together forever. He had never told her he liked her, but he knew that she knew.

He had thought they understood each other without words, but suddenly she had changed.

Had she changed? Or had he never truly understood her at all?

“Qiaoxi, tell me.” He gripped both her arms and looked steadily into her eyes. “You will come back to Maple Crest.”
