Chapter Ninety-One: In Truth, You Are Quite Passive (1)
At the time, she had thought so too. They had been together for so long that the habit had become as natural as breathing.
Yet she did not know what that breathlike feeling really was, so she chose to transfer schools.
When they were suddenly apart, she felt unaccustomed to it, felt the ache of missing him, and had even considered going back, until she realized she had feelings for Europe Asia.
In truth, she should have separated that feeling then and there. But she remained silent, not even daring to confirm it. Only then did she understand that wanting to know and knowing the truth were not the same; perhaps, deep down, she simply did not want to change this habit.
But if it were proven to be only friendship and not love, then that habit could not possibly remain unchanged.
"Come find you on Saturday. For now, go back first, all right?" She looked at him, her eyes still calm.
Gu Heng’s face darkened. He reached out as if to pull her back, but in the end he clenched his fist and forced himself to withdraw his hand.
"All right." He left those words behind and turned away.
Qiao Xi stood there for a moment before going to find Yu Fan.
When she was nearly at the car, she saw the back of a girl inside and stopped in her tracks.
Inside the car, Xu Jiaer kept shaking Yu Fan’s arm. "Cousin, just come with me. Brother Ya hasn’t come to class for a whole day, and I’m really worried about him."
"If you’re worried, then go find him yourself," Yu Fan said.
"I would, but he won’t answer my calls at all. And even if I go, he won’t see me. You’re different. You’re the student council president, so he won’t refuse to see you. Please, Cousin, come with me."
"Do you think he’d want to see me now?" Yu Fan asked in return.
Xu Jiaer bit her lip in distress, then gave him a push. "It’s all your fault. There are so many drivers you could have hired, so why did you insist on hiring Uncle Qi?"
"Ah Qi was chosen by my father."
"The driver your father chose for you must have had every detail of his background checked thoroughly." Xu Jiaer stared at him. "Cousin, tell me the truth—was Uncle Qi really Brother Ya’s father?"
"As far as I know, Ah Qi’s surname is not Ou." Yu Fan had not made any special effort to look into it, but Ah Qi had been his driver for more than a year, so he knew him fairly well. He knew Ah Qi had a wife and a son, though he had never met either of them.
"Then does Brother Ya take his mother’s surname?" Xu Jiaer did not understand.
"You’ll have to ask him that. Fine, I have something to do today." Yu Fan had already spotted Qiao Xi standing there.
"Forget it. If you won’t help me, I’ll investigate on my own. I don’t need to rely on you for what money can get done." Xu Jiaer said angrily.
"What do you think would happen if Europe Asia found out someone was investigating him?"
"I wouldn’t let him know."
"Are you sure he wouldn’t notice?"
"Then you still won’t help me."
"All right, I’ll handle it. Wait for my news." Yu Fan finally said. After all, she was his only cousin, and since Europe Asia was the person Jiaer liked, his family background ought to be investigated carefully.
"I knew Cousin was the best to me." Xu Jiaer wrapped her arms around him, smiling sweetly.
"All right, go home early."
"What exactly do you have to do?"
"Turn around," Yu Fan said.
Xu Jiaer blinked in confusion, then turned and saw Qiao Xi standing not far away.
Today, Qiao Xi had truly stolen the spotlight. Still, as long as Qiao Xi did not come to steal Brother Ya from her, then she could have her moment in the sun for now. Besides, Cousin would dump her sooner or later.
"Oh, so you’re rushing off to a date. I get it. I won’t be a third wheel. Don’t forget what you promised me, okay?" she reminded him one last time before getting out of the car.
