Chapter Ninety-Two: In Truth, You Are Quite Passive (2)
After getting out of the car, she walked straight toward Qiao Xi, putting on an obedient, innocent smile. “Sister Xi, I hope you and my cousin have a wonderful date. I won’t bother you two. Bye-bye.”
Qiao Xi said nothing and waited until she left before stepping forward.
“Get in,” said Yu Fan from the car.
Qiao Xi did not want to get in, but one of them was inside the car and the other outside, and they were still at the school gate, so there was no way to talk there. In the end, she got in anyway.
“Drive.”
As soon as she was seated, Yu Fan told the driver to go. Since Archie had something to deal with at home, the driver today was a different man.
“Wait a moment,” Qiao Xi said at once. She was willing to cooperate on the surface, but that did not mean she would cooperate with everything in private. “I need to tell you first: I have to go back and have dinner with my grandmother tonight.”
Yu Fan gave the driver a look, and the car still pulled away.
Seeing that, Qiao Xi said nothing more, though she felt there were some things that needed to be made clear.
“I will try my best to cooperate until noon tomorrow.” After that, once tomorrow noon passed, everything between her and him would be over.
He was so clever; she knew he would understand what she meant.
Of course Yu Fan understood, and his expression did not change. He remained as cool as ever, impossible to read.
“You don’t think you’re already refusing to cooperate?” he said.
“Cooperation is for other people to see. In private, I don’t think there’s any need for it, and I promised my grandmother I would go home for dinner.” Qiao Xi spoke evenly, meeting his gaze without the slightest disturbance.
Hearing this, Yu Fan curved his lips faintly. “If I weren’t meeting you myself, it would be hard to imagine the Qiao Xi in the rumors is like this.”
“The rumors are a bit exaggerated,” Qiao Xi said. “But it doesn’t matter either way.”
“You seem to not care about anything.” Yu Fan looked at her. She gave people the impression of being quiet, yet deep down she seemed rather cold.
“Maybe.” Qiao Xi did not care how he saw her. She had no desire to explain herself, nor any need to.
Still, she thought perhaps he was right. Ever since she had been old enough to understand things, her parents had been apart. Her mother rarely came to see her, and her father had married another woman when she was still very young. She lived with them, but her father was always busy, she spoke very little, and that woman did not talk to her much either. So she grew used to silence at home, and the same was true outside.
Meeting Gu Heng had made her life different. She followed him in everything, attended the same school and the same class, went to school together every day and came home together every day, played together, met the same people together…
Unknowingly, more than ten years had passed.
Yet a single decision of hers had changed everything.
She did not know whether she had been wrong.
Yu Fan did not force her and brought her back.
The car stopped outside her grandmother’s house.
“Thank you for bringing me back,” Qiao Xi said. Just as she was about to get out, he suddenly leaned toward her.
At such close range, she could faintly feel the warmth of his breath.
She wanted to avoid him, but one of his hands braced against the back of her seat, almost trapping her in place. There was no escaping.
Yu Fan looked at her and said in a low, magnetic voice, “Has anyone ever told you that you’re actually very passive?”
“...?”
He did not wait for her to answer and went on, “I’ll come pick you up tomorrow.”
Qiao Xi wanted to say there was no need, but then she thought that, in any case, this would be the last time. Besides, such close contact made her feel very uncomfortable.
“Can I get out now?” she asked.
“Yes,” Yu Fan said, and then he brushed a kiss against her cheek.
It was extremely light, his lips merely touching the skin of her face for an instant before drawing away.
