Chapter 126: Xia Moyan's Troubles [Second Update]

The Fatty knew Fang Nian very well. He was the sort of man who could both cause trouble and clean it up. As long as he avoided his old habits, Fang Nian was an exceptionally steady and reliable person. No matter how serious the crisis, he could resolve it with ease.
On the other hand, Fang Nian’s talent for creating trouble was unparalleled. No matter how perfectly laid a plan was, he would always find some way to throw a wrench into it. Sometimes the outcome was excellent; sometimes it was disastrous.
As the approaching car drew nearer, the Fatty wanted to trust Fang Nian, but he was struggling inwardly all the same. Tan Hong, seeing how tense the Fatty was, could not help feeling a shiver run through her either. In a timid voice, she asked him, “Is this guy really reliable? Why does tonight feel especially dark? Nothing’s going to happen to us, right?”
As she spoke, Tan Hong quietly locked the car windows and stared solemnly outside.
Soon, the armored RV pulled up beside their car. It did not look as though the other party had come looking for a fight. Tan Hong thought about it for a moment, then suddenly covered her mouth in astonishment.
“Oh my God, they aren’t here to dump a body, are they? This is terrifying, coming out in the dead of night.”
The Fatty rolled his eyes helplessly. In ordinary circumstances, the head of the company looked like a capable businesswoman who carried herself like an elegant older sister. But whenever something happened, she seemed no better than a child, completely lacking in courage.
Before long, however, Tan Hong abandoned that frightening idea. They clearly saw Fang Nian step down from the armored vehicle, while everyone around him treated him with great respect, bowing and scraping as they left. They also unloaded a large number of bags and packages from the vehicle for Fang Nian before driving away.
The Fatty finally breathed a sigh of relief, opened the door, and walked toward Fang Nian.
“Old Fang, can’t you hurry up when you’re doing something? I’ve been waiting here all night, and I’m practically starved thin. How are you going to compensate me for all the flesh I’ve lost?”
Fang Nian smiled helplessly and pointed at the heap of bags on the ground.
“They’re all full of good food—roast duck, Jinhua ham, and plenty more. I know you’re hungry, so hurry up and eat.”
The Fatty’s eyes lit up. Faced with food, he had already forgotten all about the contract.
Seeing that they were safe, Tan Hong also got out of the car. Though she was hungry as well, she did not rush toward the food like the Fatty. Instead, she asked Fang Nian about the contract.
At that, Fang Nian handed her a file folder. She opened it and skimmed through the details. The wider her eyes grew, the more she read. When she reached the investment amount listed in the agreement, she was completely dumbfounded.
She looked at Fang Nian in disbelief.

“Little brother, are you sure Lu Xiao signed this contract? I didn’t study much, so don’t try to fool me. These terms are far too generous! And the investment is actually one hundred million, while the shares only amount to thirty percent? Isn’t that a little absurd?”
Fang Nian smiled helplessly, then put on an arrogant, disdainful expression.
“It’s signed in black and white. How could it be fake? I’ve already signed it. Only you and the Fatty are left. Whether you sign or not is up to you.”
When Tan Hong saw Fang Nian reaching for the contract, she immediately panicked. She hurriedly snatched it back and rapidly signed her name, afraid that Fang Nian might truly take it away.
Fang Nian smiled helplessly. The Fatty had nearly finished eating by then. He glanced at the contract and was shocked as well.
“Good grief, Old Fang, did you drug them again? Why does this contract look like they’re throwing money away? This is outrageous.”
Fang Nian spread his hands helplessly, then struck a pompous pose.
“Ah, the world of immortals is beyond the understanding of you mortals. In any case, that fellow received something even more valuable than money. Everyone benefits. All right, let’s go home. I’m exhausted.”
The Fatty knew that Fang Nian must have given Lu Xiao something besides money. Since Tan Hong was there, it was inconvenient to ask, so he merely nodded. The three of them drove back into the city.
…
Because Fang Nian had drunk quite a lot at Lu Xiao’s place the previous day, dawn had already broken by the time he returned. By the time he woke up, it was already the following evening.
Fang Nian rubbed his forehead. After sleeping and recuperating, he found himself in excellent condition. He was about to get up and practice his qi, as well as familiarize himself further with the Tendon and Bone Chapter of the Muscle-Tendon Classic.
Just as he was preparing to enter a state of cultivation, however, he suddenly realized that there was someone else in the room. It was Xia Moyan.
She was sitting at the table, studying the accounts in her hands, her brows tightly furrowed. Clearly, something was troubling her.
After seeing the beautiful woman, Fang Nian naturally lost all interest in cultivating. He got out of bed, walked behind Xia Moyan, and glanced over the things spread across her table.
The tabletop was already covered with a large quantity of materials. Apart from books on the appreciation of antiques, there were also numerous journals and periodicals devoted to the appraisal of ink paintings and ceramics.
“Are you thinking of buying antiques?” Fang Nian suddenly spoke, startling Xia Moyan. Only after she turned and saw that it was him did she relax slightly.
“Did I wake you?”

Fang Nian shook his head, then picked up a book titled Three Days to Becoming an Antique Appraisal Master and held it up toward Xia Moyan.
“Surely you don’t actually believe there can be a miraculous book like this?”
Xia Moyan tossed aside the pen in her hand and leaned back in her chair to stretch. There was no denying that his wife had an astonishing figure, practically sculpted according to the golden ratio. The moment she stretched like that, Fang Nian found himself even more captivated by her.
Still, staring at Xia Moyan for too long would not be appropriate, so he withdrew his gaze and asked, “Why have you started reading books like these? Are you planning to get into the antique business? As far as I know, the waters in this field run very deep. The slightest mistake can result in devastating losses.”
Xia Moyan naturally understood how difficult it was. Otherwise, she would not have been working so hard at it.
“Yes. Antique appraisal is truly difficult. I’ve been studying for so long, yet I still can’t even distinguish the different periods of ink paintings. I have to leave tomorrow. What am I going to do if I can’t find a suitable gift?”
Fang Nian was taken aback.
“Where are you going? And who are you buying a gift for?”
Xia Moyan had been looking for someone to vent to. Now that Fang Nian had asked, she simply put down her pen and told him, “When you attended that forum last time, didn’t I go to District 6 to discuss business? In truth, I was there to seek investment. I want to make use of the Liu family’s financial strength in District 6 to expand the influence of our Xia family in District 16.”
“Besides, the hunting ground Grandpa Duan gave me last time, Mysterious Escape Camp, still hasn’t opened yet, and public interest in the Xia hunting grounds has been rising steadily. I want to take advantage of this momentum and completely take over the hunting market in District 16.”
After hearing Xia Moyan’s plan, Fang Nian nodded in satisfaction. She had indeed chosen an excellent moment to turn the tables. This was the perfect opportunity to unify District 16.
